  • Coarctation of the aorta is classically a congenital narrowing of the upper descending thorac aorta adjacent to the site of attachment of the ductus arteriosus which is sufficiently severe that there is a pressure gradient across the area. Recently we have experienced two cases of coarctation of the aorta and successfully performed resection of the sites of coarctation and end to end anastomosis of the aorta. The first case was a juxtaductal type of coarctation of the aorta with PDA and the pathology of the lesion was a diaphragm with central narrow opening. And the resection length was about 0.5cm and aortic clamping time was 20 minutes. The second case was also juxtaductal type coarctation of the aorta with mild tubular hypoplasia of aortic isthmus, left SVC and the pathology was also a diaphragm with central narrow opening. And the resection length was about 0.5cm and aortic clamping time was 29 minutes. Both postoperative course was uneventful and the patients were discharged two weeks after operation.

  • The purpose of this paper is to construct a computer simulation system which can analyze and design the hydraulic excavator Theoretical analyses are performed on the hydraulic circuit and attachment of excavator with load sensing system. Databases are constructed for control valve opening areas, horsepower control and for load sensing regulator. For hydraulic components modularized programming techniques are applied which is expected to be utilized for software development of fluid power system. Through simulation an information of any point in hydraulic circuit can be obtained.

  • This study represents numerical analysis in top opening rectangular with a heating source. The governing equations were solved by a finite volume method, a SIMPLE algorithm was adopted to solve a pressure term. The top boundary with free surface was calculated by energy balance condition. As the results of simulations, the magnitudes of the velocity vectors and isotherms were very small at the lower space of a heating source. The mean Nusselt numbers are increased proportionally to the Grashof number, the heat transfer at Y/H=0.25 was greater than other positions.

  • To improve the performance of the control butterfly valve seals are used to eccentric shaft. In this case, vertical opening gas of the butterfly valve is non-symmetrical, which will change the flow pattern around the valve. In this study, the eccentric drive shaft of the butterfly valve to change flow characteristics are performed numerically. Flow pattern and pressure drop are investigated as the valve opening angle increases for a given mass flow rate. The valve flow coefficient is compared to the without eccentric shaft.

  • This study is about distributions of flow in a ventilation system used in a louver for marine. In this study, to describe the flow in the ventilation opening louver, 3-dimensional steady-state turbulence was assumed to govern the equation. The flow field with pressure distribution according to the inlet velocity at the louver types is also compared. Flow analysis was performed for the louver numerical analysis on two types. The numerical analysis results in the louver blade indicated increased flow resistance at type-1.

  • In most of the passenger side airbag door in hard type IP today is designed with invisible tear-seam line. In order to design the tear-seam invisible, the tear-seam must be designed with required RWT (residual wall thickness) that is just thick enough to be broken by the PAB pressure on deployment and not by other surrounding impact forces. Hence, keeping the right optimum opening force is very important, and finding the right RWT became the key in designing the tear-seam. The study conducted in this paper describes the search for the optimum RWT around the tear-seam by using finite element method and the optimum RWT is suggested for milling type tear-seam having V-shape cross-section.

  • Comprehensive monitoring system for the safe and economical excavation of underground opening has been established by employing the 3 independent models each of which can i) predict the ultimate convergence, ii) assess the in-situ stresses and the elastic modulus of excavating rock, iii) calculate the time-dependent opening behavior with respect to the face advance rate and support pressure at the equilibrium state. Accuracy of each model has been verified through illustrative examples. The step-by-step procedures of comprehensive monitoring system for analyzing the rock behavior and the optimum support installation has been explained. The capability and applicability of this system to the practical excavation also has been discussed.

  • In this paper a 2-stage $CO_2$ cycle was simulated to predict the performance characteristics with operating parameters. The simulation results showed similar tendency compared to the measured system pressure, capacity, COP etc. System characteristics were analyzed with the variations of outdoor temperature and EEV opening. In the simulation, the highest COP was 2.7 at 30-30 Hz and it decreased as compressor frequency increased. Besides, system COP can be increased by optimizing EEV opening.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of bend angle on the collapse behavior of locally wall thinned pipe bends. For this purpose, the present study performed three-dimensional finite element analysis on the 30-, 60-, and 90-degree pipe bends with local wall thinning at the center of intrados, extrados, and crown, and evaluated the collapse moment for different thinning dimensions under closing- and opening-mode bending with a constant internal pressure. The results showed that, for intrados and extrados wall thinning, the reduction in the collapse moment due to local wall thinning became significant with decreasing bend angle of pipe bends. This effect of bend angle was enhanced with increasing thinning dimensions, and it was clearer fur opening-mode bending than for closing-mode bending. For crown wall thinning, however, the effect of bend angle was unclear and was less sensitive to the change of wall thinning shapes.

  • Shear coaxial injectors were commonly used in rocket engine combustor. They showed good combustion performance. However it is not easy to control the thrust. Pintle injectors were not as popular as the coaxial injectors so far, they have a great advantage over the coaxial injectors. That is, it is relatively easy to control the thrust. Spray characteristics of gel type propellant from movable sleeve pintle injector were investigated. Water with 0.05% of Carbopol 940 was used as gel simulant instead of kerosene gel combined with Thixarol ST for academic purpose. Experiments were performed in various temperature, pressure and pintle opening condition. The results were compared with neat liquid spray. It is also verified that the capabilites of the injector by adjusting the pintle opening.
