An open pulsating heat pipe operates continuously by inflow and outflow fluids through an open-type condenser. The open pulsating heat pipe is a device capable of obtaining the thrust due to the variation of internal pressure during phase change. Therefore, the open pulsating heat pipe is a suitable device to move fluids if the heat source such as waste heat exists. Many numerical studies have not been sufficiently conducted on the open pulsating heat pipe. In this study, the numerical analysis of the open pulsating heat pipe is performed according to the length of the condenser section. The OpenFOAM software is used to obtain the thrust and the flow visualization for the open pulsating heat pipe.

Because the liquid-vapor interfacial shear stress affects seriously the liquid flow and the maximum heat transport rate of the grooved wick heat pipe, an accurate modeling for the pressure drop characteristics of the liquid flow is required. A novel method for calculating the liquid pressure drop and the velocity profile of an open channel flow in a microchannel with an arbitrary cross-section is suggested and validated by experiments. An experimental apparatus for the Poiseuille number of the liquid flow in open rectangular microchannels with the hydraulic diameters of 0.40mm, 0.43mm, 0.48mm is used in order to reproduce real situations in the grooved wick heat pipe. Analytic results from the suggested method are compared with the experimental data and they are in a close agreement with each other.

Flow in the oxidizer manifold of a liquid rocket combustor has been analysed using an open source CFD toolbox, OpenFOAM. The applicability of OpenFOAM to the problems with complex geometries involving porous media zones for simulating the pressure drop induced by the injectors has been evaluated by performing turbulent, incompressible steady-state flow analysis. The usefulness and applicable area of the OpenFOAM as a design evaluation and analysis tool will be confirmed and enlarged by further evaluation with various computational cases representing major physical phenomena in rocket combustion devices.
The cross flow turbine is economical because of its simple structure. For remote rural region, there are needs for a more simple structure and very low head cross flow turbines. However, in this kind of locations, the water from upstream always flows into the turbine with some other materials such as sand and pebble. These materials will be damage to the runner blade and shorten the turbine lifespan. Therefore, there is a need to develop a new type of cross flow turbine for the remote rural region where there is availability of abundant resources. The new design of the cross flow turbine has an inlet open duct, without guide vane and nozzle to simplify the structure. However, the turbine with inlet open duct and very low head shows relatively low efficiency. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to optimize the shape of the turbine inlet to improve the efficiency, and investigate the internal flow of a very low head cross flow turbine. There are two steps to optimize the turbine inlet shape. Firstly, by changing the turbine open angle along with changing the turbine inlet open duct bottom line (IODBL) location to investigate the internal flow. Secondly, keeping the turbine IODBL location at the maximum efficiency achieved at the first step, and changing the turbine IODBL angle to improve the performance. The result shows that there is a 7.4% of efficiency improvement by optimizing turbine IODBL location (open angle), and there is 0.3% of efficiency improvement by optimizing the turbine IODBL angle.
The goal of the research is to evaluate the open source code of OpenFOAM for the use of nuclear plant flow simulation objectively. Of the various incompressible flow solvers, simpleFoam, pimpelFoam are then tested under three validated cases (backward facing step, flow over circular cylinder and turbulent round jet flow). For the evaluation of steady state incompressible laminar flow simulation, low reynolds number of backward facing step flow was solved by simpleFoam. The resultant of the reattached lengths turned out to be similar with the other experimental and simulation results. For transient flow simulation, flow over circular cylinder and turbulent round jet flow were solved by pimpleFoam. The simulation accuracy was evaluated by comparing the resultant flow patterns with the description of the characteristics of the flow over the circular cylinder. The quantitative accuracy was evaluated for no more than 85% by comparing it to the decaying constants of the turbulent round jet velocity.

This paper provides insights into the sFlow monitoring system of OF@KREONET. OF@KREONET is software defined network (SDN) testbed adapted by KREONET (Korea Research Environment Open NETwork). OF@KREONET uses SDN-based network virtualization to slice the network among multiple concurrent experimenter. Flow Monitoring of OF@KREONET using sFlow. sFlow and OpenFlow can be used to provide an integrated flow monitoring system where OpenFlow controller can be used to define flows to be monitored by sFlow. OF@KREONET flow monitoring system supports monitoring of per slice FlowSpace. An Experimental can monitor his/her own FlowSpace while network administrator can monitor all spaces.
The traffic in research network for the new structure of the network and new service research has the various properties. From the perspective of a specific traffic point of view, transmission of traffic with different requirements using a single routing protocol is an obstacle to satisfy requirements. In this study, we classify the properties of the traffic into two types. We propose the way that we can get the overall optimization effect, the experiment proves it by providing independent multiple forwarding path by applying optimized algorithm by types. In order to distinguish each type of traffic we use the ports on the switch and in order to implement independent path we apply OpenFlow system. In other words, we present the measure that can be implemented to improve the satisfaction of the traffic by making multiple paths by OpenFlow controller according to the type of traffic and by enforcing in Forwarder.
This study investigated compound open channel flow using OpenFOAM Large Eddy Simulation (LES). Large eddy simulations were carried out by solving the filtered continuity and momentum equations numerically. One equation LES and non-uniform grid were applied to capture the anisotropic turbulence and secondary flow near the wall. The results of large eddy simulations of turbulent flow in a compound open channel with deep and shallow flood plain depths are presented. These LESs are validated with experimental data, resulting in a good agreement between measured and calculated data. The role of anisotropic turbulence in generating secondary currents is illustrated.

A study on film water flow on steep open channel has been seldom found up to date. Therefore, this paper dealed with the depth variation of film thickness of water (city supply normal water) flowing on steep open channel. For this purpose, Experimental apparatus (made of a normal glass with 160cm of length and 15cm of width) was made and the depths of the water flowing on the channel were measured experimentally, changing the channel slope angle from 30 to 80 degree (5 steps) and the flow rate from 0.25 to 10CPM (11 steps). The results obtained, some characteristics of the film flow on the channel are as follows. (1) When thin film water flowed on steep open channel, the depths of flow tended to increase after decreasing and was kept nearly constant in its downstream in case of laminar and transitional flow region. The turining point of the depths of flow from decrease to increase tended to move downward with the increase of Reynolds number. In turbulent flow region, the depths of flow showed reapid decrease in its upper stream, gradual decrease in its midstream and were kept nearly constant in its downstream. (2) While the differences between the depths of flow along the channel slope got small in its upper stream and got large in its downstream in case of laminar flow region, they got very large in its upper stream and were kept nearly constant in its downstream in case of transitional and turbulent flow region. And the move flow rate increases, the more the differences between the depths of flow along the channel slope got large in its upper stream.
