To fabricate a thick, porous yttria-stabilized zirconia without cracking and warping, a method for the simultaneous control of the porosity and shrinkage was designed. As a pore former, a potato starch was used. For the control of shrinkage the oxidation of Al metal particles was used. For the sintering of the above powder mixtures, a partial sintering technique was used at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 10 min in air. Upon adding the additives, high open porosity above 53% and a low shrinkage level were obtained. As a result cracking and warping of the sintered body were deterred. This outcome most likely resulted from the compensation of sintering shrinkage due to the volume expansion caused by oxidation of the Al metal particles during heat-treatment.
To improve the low resistance of ceramics to tensile stress, many techniques, for introducing and retaining surface compressive stress have been suggested. In present work, in order to introduce the compressive stress on the surface of TZP ceramics TZP-Al2O3 composites were made with infiltration technique. Highly porous 3Y-TZP pre-sintered specimens were submerged in AlOOH(boehmite) sol and the sol penetrated into them through open pore channels with moderate depth after that specimens were sintered. It was known that controlling the number of infiltration time can vary the amount of Al2O3 phase and the fraction of alumina at surface reached up to 18%. The depth of composite surface layer were 100~200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and these were acceptable in surface strengthening which were proved by Vickers hardness indentation method.

Capsule free hot isostatic pressing (HIPing) of 12 mol% $CeO_2-88 mo% ZrO_2 (12CeO_2-88ZrO_2)$ powder was conducted at 1100~$1200^{\circ}C$ using the powder crystallized in supercritical methanol followed by supercritical drying. Porous $12CeO_2-88ZrO_2$ ceramics with ~35% open porosity, micropore diameter of ~23 nm and a narrow pore size distribution were fabricated by capsule free hot isostatic pressing at $1100^{\circ}C$. The porosity increased with decrease in HIPing temperature and was accompanied by a steady decrease in fracture strength.
A metal fiber bed has seldom been applied to the practical filtration process despite its excellent mechanical and chemical stability. The filter-bed used in this work was highly porous with open structure, of which apparent porosity was 80 ∼ 90%. Although pressure loss across the filter-bed was very low, separation efficiency was found to be quite high. This paper focuses on the basic filtration mechanisms of a metal filter-bed and a thin ceramic filter from fly ash for reference. The experimental parameters were face velocity, dust loading and porosity of filter-bed. Pressure drop increased with increasing face velocity and dust feeding load for both filters. It also showed that dust particles deposited in the deep flow path, finally resulting in clogging the pore channels. It thereby indicates that the dominating mechanism of the metal filter-bed would be depth filtration. Meanwhile, the thin fly ash composite filters trapped the aerated dust mainly on the surface of the filter medium, so that the instantaneously formed dust layer might cause a steep increase of pressure drop across the filtration system.
The evolution of nanotechnology provides materials with advance properties. It's a fast growing area of research to introduce the oxide nanoparticles into the cement pastes to improve their performance. The purpose of this paper is to review the effects of oxide nanoparticles (such as $SiO_2$, $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, $ZnO_2$, $Cr_2O_3$ and $Al_2O_3$) on both of hardened concrete properties (i.e., compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength, water permeability, Abrasion resistance and pore structure of concrete) and fresh concrete properties (i.e., workability and setting time). Graphical representations of all these parameters were presented to facilitate the comparison of the effect of oxide nanoparticles on concrete processing. The paper also introduces some discussion about future work in this direction by identifying some open research area.
A first systematic approach on new and simple preparation method of spherical granules in the system using organic granulating solution was carried out. Mixer granulation required narrow range of moisture content but gentle action of tumbling in the mixer and capilary forces were adequate to compact the porous mass and also were highly effective to produce granules close to sphere. Where the granules by massing and screening provided the more open structure, its pore distribution lied between 71 and 16 .mu.m by above 50% and on the contrary, that of the mixer granulated granules showed only below 25%. Increase in retention time in the mixer decreased the intragranular porosity of granules produced, and in comparison with granular particles produced by conventional wet granulation, those from the mixer granulation had the advantages of flow properties, packing characteristics and definite spherocity. They also had extremely low friability resulting in few fines.
Wet foams formed through direct foaming were stabilized using various concentrations of amiphiphilic particles that could control pore size and porosity. These porous materials showed moderate strength upon compression with high porosity. Bubble size and wet foam stability were tailored by amphiphile concentration, particle concentration, contact angle, and pH of the suspension to obtain crack-free porous solid after sintering. Closed and open pores were obtained with sizes of 30~300 ${\mu}m$ and porosities of over 80%.
In this study, the optimum amount of chloride ions is used to collaborate with hybrid corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel rebar treatment in simulated pore concrete (SCP) solution is discovered. The corrosion inhibition performance of hybrid inhibitors is carried on by open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization (PP). The highest corrosion inhibition resistance is found in case of LP-C2 after 240 h exposure. Surface studies including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to figure out the surface morphology of the steel rebar treated with hybrid inhibitors in order to collaborate well with electrochemical studies. Anodic type inhibition action was confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization study.
In this study, the optimum amount of hybrid inhibitors i.e. L-Arginine (LA) and sodium phosphate tribasic dodecahydrate (SP), applied for carbon steel rebar in simulated pore concrete (SCP) solution contaminated with 3.5 wt.% NaCl, was discovered. The corrosion inhibition performance of hybrid inhibitors was investigated by open circuit potential (OCP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynamic polarization. The highest corrosion inhibition efficiency was found as 99.52% corresponding to 2% LA and 0.25% SP after 210 h exposure. Anodic type inhibition action was confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization study. Surface studies including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to figure out the surface morphology of the steel rebar treated with hybrid inhibitors in order to collaborate with electrochemical studies.
