  • Optical camera communication (OCC) is an extension of Visible Light Communication. Different from traditional visible light communication, optical camera communications is an almost no additional cost technology by taking the advantage of build-in camera in devices. It was became a candidate for communication protocol for IoT. Camera module can be easy attached to IoT device, because it is small and flexible. Furthermore almost smartphone equip one or two camera for both back and font side with high quality and resolution. It can be utilized for receiving the data from LED or positioning. Actually, OCC combines illumination and communication. It can supply communication for special areas or environment where do not allow Radio frequency such as hospital, airplane etc. There are many concept and experiment be proposed. In this paper we proposed utilizing Android smart-phone camera for receiver and introduce new approach in modulation scheme for LED at transmitter. It also show how Manchester coding can be used encode bits while at the same time being successfully decoded by Android smart-phone camera. We introduce new data frame format for easy decoded and can be achieve high bit rate. This format can be easy to adapt to performance limit of Android operator or embedded system.

  • Clock or time synchronization protocol is one of the crucial factors that could determine the quality of the communication. With the rapid development of the network technology, more robust clock synchronization algorithm is required. IEEE 1588 is one of the possible solutions for a robust clock synchronization algorithm; however, there are still some challenges that need to be concerned in IEEE 1588 in term of reducing and stabilizing the PDV value. This survey paper shows several solutions that could improve the performance of IEEE 1588, including modifying the PTP message transmission, optimizing PTP method, filtering techniques, and using the hardware timestamp instead of application layer timestamp, and so on. Despite the improvement that is created with these techniques, the clock synchronization algorithm is still an open issue in the network communication.

  • Open Network Management Systems (NMS) are not sufficient to use in a large and complex computer network environment because many-year experiences and skills are requeired for using NMS. And also, customizing NMS means a difficult programming with API(Application programming Interface) supplied by NMs. The more intelligent NMS you want, the more difficult programming you must do. In this paper, we proposed an intelligent network management system suign a structure of multiple and distributed expert systems, so as to represent expertises and knowledges of network managers into rule format, maintain the knowledgesstructurally and perform the network managmenet intelligently. expert system for amanaging computer network should understand the management protocol, analyze messages from agents, take a proper action, and report the situations by pre-defined network operation principle and strategy. A multiple expert sytem is composed of monitor expert module, fault expert module and manager expert module which are controlled by enconded knowledges.

  • Satellite communications consist of communications between base stations of the ground and satellites. For efficient satellite communications, ground networks should be organically utilized. Grid networks are frequently used in and outside the country for wireless communications. The performance of wireless communications is determined by mobility, topography, and jamming signals. Therefore, continuous studies of grid networks are necessary for the utilization of next period satellite networks. Since military communications are used based on wireless systems, they can be considered as a sample of utilization of grid networks. Therefore, this paper presented the results of simulations conducted for the improvement of the performance of the grid networks used in military communications that employing the OSPF, a popular routing protocol for military applications. First we investigate the effects of changing the bit error rate (BER) and number of routers. Then we discuss the effects of maximum segment size (MSS) on network behavior and stability. In this way, we can determine the appropriate MSS for a grid network under various values of BER and number of routers. Such results can be also applied to commercial grid network evaluations.

  • Over the past decades, information and communication service providing safe and efficient navigation have been tried in maritime area. However, there were provided different ways such as different protocol or different policy. It made hard to serve efficiently. The introduction of MSI as a part of e-navigation development can be a kind of concepts to solve this problem. This paper tries to suggest a conceptual design of onboard application middleware to be able to communicate the shore-side maritime safety information system, take into account the reuse of open-source software.

  • Background: Delirium after cardiac surgery is associated with serious long-term negative outcomes and high costs. The aim of this study is to evaluate neurobehavioral, hemodynamic, and sedative characteristics of dexmedetomidine, compared with the current postoperative sedative protocol (remifentanil) in patients undergoing open heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Methods: One hundred and forty two eligible patients who underwent cardiac surgery on CPB between April 2012 and March 2013 were randomly divided into two groups. Patients received either dexmedetomidine (range, 0.2 to $0.8\;{\mu}g/kg/hr$; n=67) or remifentanil (range, 1,000 to $2,500\;{\mu}g/hr$, n=75). The primary end point was the prevalence of delirium estimated daily via the confusion assessment method for intensive care. Results: When the delirium incidence was compared with the dexmedetomidine group (6 of 67 patients, 8.96%) and the remifentanil group (17 of 75 patients, 22.67%) it was found to be significantly less in the dexmedetomidine group (p<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between two groups in the extubation time, ICU stay, total hospital stay, and other postoperative complications including hemodynamic side effects. Conclusion: This preliminary study suggests that dexmedetomidine as a postoperative sedative agent is associated with significantly lower rates of delirium after cardiac surgery.

  • An SDR (Software Defined Radio) system based on general purpose computing platform has benefits of ease of software development process, high degree of software compatibility, and cost-effectiveness of general purpose processors. This paper discusses design and implementation of a dual-mode SDR system that supports both cordless phone and walkie-talky system running on Linux-based general purpose computing platform. For this purpose, we designed modulation and demodulation software on open source-based GNU radio middleware. We also designed a customized RF front-end hardware which performs frequency conversion between RF and IF. The proposed SDR system successfully exhibited its ability to operate both cordless phone and walkie-talky communication on Intel processor-based general purpose computing platform. But experience with the prototype SDR system shows that further research is required for run-time software reconfiguration and efficient integration with conventional TCP/IP protocol stacks.

  • A remote user authentication scheme is a two-party protocol whereby an authentication server in a distributed system confirms the identity of a remote individual logging on to the server over an untrusted, open network. In 2005, Liao et al. proposed a remote user authentication scheme using a smart card, in which users can be authenticated anonymously. Recently, Yoon et al. have discovered some security flaws in Liao et al.'s authentication scheme and proposed an improved version of this scheme to fix the security flaws. In this article, we review the improved authentication scheme by Yoon et al. and provide a security analysis on the scheme. Our analysis shows that Yoon et al.'s scheme does not guarantee not only any kind of authentication, either server-to-user authentication or user-to-server authentication but also password security. The contribution of the current work is to demonstrate these by mounting two attacks, a server impersonation attack and a user impersonation attack, and an off-line dictionary attack on Yoon et al.'s scheme. In addition, we propose the enhanced authentication scheme that eliminates the security vulnerabilities of Yoon et al.'s scheme.

  • Software-defined networking provides a programmable and flexible way to manage the network by separating the control plane from data plane. However, the limited switch memory restricts the number of flow entries in the flow table used to forward packets. This leads to flow table overflow and flow entry reinstallation, which severely degrade the network performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a comprehensive policy for timely eviction of inactive flow entries to optimally maintain flow tables usage. In particular, statistics of user datagram protocol flow entries are periodically sampled to enable the inactive entries to be evicted early. Through traffic-based experiments, we found that the proposed system reduces the number of overflow occurrences and flow entries reinstallation compared to the random and FIFO policies.
