  • Purpose - We investigate whether a firm's engagement in socially responsible activity affects the quality of financial reporting within the retail industry of Korean market. Recent studies argue that more socially responsible firms tend to show a better quality of financial reporting. Research design, data, and methodology - We use a variety of proxy variables related to the use of discretionary accruals and real activity manipulation to measure the quality of financial reporting. The total of environmental, social and governance score is used to represent the degree of socially responsible activity in the retail industry. We use regression models to examine whether more socially responsible firms show a higher quality of financial reporting. The sample of publicly traded Korea retail firms is analyzed from 2011 to 2016. Results - Our analysis finds supporting evidence for limited earning management via the use of discretionary accruals. We find, however, no significant relationship between the degree of social responsibility and the quality of financial reporting within chaebol affiliates unlike non-chaebol affiliates. Conclusions - Our results weakly support a better quality of financial reporting for more socially responsible firms. The results highlight the importance of firm characteristics in deciding the effect of socially responsible activity on corporate policies.

  • Purpose: The present study offers merger and acquisition (M&A) strategy based on prior studies to assist the organizational practitioners in two companies' cultures. In the analysis, a M&A plan to guide the evolving principles was created by present authors using change management model. Research design, data, and methodology: The successful M&A integration is setting goals, reconfiguring the cultural systems to align them with business goals. The employees must be involved, particularly with organizational change. Both companies also ought to undertake employee training following the resolving of worries and needs of employees. Finally, restructuring can include the moving of employees from areas where they may be struggling. Result: Discussing and trying to come to an agreement over which mode of acculturation would be most suitable in that particular state is the main focus. Practitioners of both Company A and Company B might find it much simpler to continue their focus and dynamism in the process of cultural integration. Conclusions: We believe that our approach adds an insight in the M&A literature. Managers at all levels of both organizations must take part in the process of M&A for both organizational cultures to come in sync and for change to take place.

  • I have outlined the history of Korean Fisheries Co - coperatives and its economic and noneconomic contribution to Korean Fisheries. But in order to overcome new economic world trend that is emerging now with the beginning of the WTO Korean Fisheries Co - operatives should change itself. It can be summarlized as follows. (1) The early Korean Fisheries Co - operatives was monopolized by Japanese under the Japanese colonial rule. (2) The modern Korean Fisheries Co - operatives was organized in 1962. 4. 1 by Korean government. (3) Korean Fisheries Co - operatives was weak in democratic management because of socioeconomic bad condition. (4) In spite of the dependence on the government financial aid Korean Fisheries Co - operatives has contributed to the fisheries development. (5) At the aid of the credit undertaking economic project was enlarged greatly, (6) With the close of the UR talks we cannot but open out fisheries market. So we are in condition that must enforce out fisheries compatability. especially, \circled1 Improvement of fisheries structure to enlarge management scale \circled2 Increase of productivity in fishing ground \circled3 The continuous endeavour to positive marine resourses making (7) Reorganization of fisheries, for example fisheries system or fisheries structure (8) Reexamination of the organization and operation of Korean Fisheries Co - operatives. • In recent, the Korean fisheries industry face an overall crisis. Annual fish catch is continuously decreasing for last two decades even though various programs to improve fish population. Moreover, domestic fish market is more and more occupied by imported cheap fish products from abroad due to the consequence of open economic policy, FTA and WTO/DDA entente. Under the circumstances, this study aims to examine the potential for building fisheries cluster as a policy tool to promote fisheries and fisheries-associated industries in Korea. To achieve this goal, the authors firstly reviewed the theoretical concept of Industrial Cluster in the evolutionary economics point of view, secondly, analyzed the main components of Porterian Cluster(or innovation cluster), thirdly, derived the key reasons to induce the improvement of productivity within the cluster network system and lastly evaluated fisheries capability and industrial infrastructures of each province as a basic condition to build a fisheries cluster. The result of the study demonstrates the voluntary accumulation of fish products and processing techniques in Korea, however, it is not enough to make up a Porterian innovation. Therefore, the present is most opportune for applying fisheries cluster as a strategic policy tool. Government supports to establish innovation cluster for fisheries may contribute both fisheries industry and local economy by developing the latent capacity of fisheries and helping concentrate innovation capabilities.

  • The performance of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) chipset and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors embedded in smartphones for location-based services (LBS) is limited due to the economic reasons for their mass production. Therefore, it is necessary to efficiently process the output data of the smartphone's embedded sensors in order to derive the optimum navigation values and, as a previous step, output performance of smartphone embedded sensors needs to be verified. This paper analyzes the navigation performance of such devices by processing the raw measurements data output from smartphones. For this, up-to-dated versions of smartphones provided by Samsung (Galaxy s10e) and Xiaomi (Mi 8) are used in the test experiment to compare their performances and characteristics. The GNSS and IMU data are extracted and saved by using an open market application software (Geo++ RINEX Logger & Mobile MATLAB), and then analyzed in post-processing manner. For GNSS chipset, data is extracted from static environments and verified the position, Carrier-to-Noise (C/N0), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) performance. For IMU sensor, the validity of navigation and various location-based-services is predicted by extracting, storing and analyzing data in static and dynamic environments.

  • This paper attempts to provide a way to improvement in trade & commerce between Korea and Russia, analyzing the influence of the circumstances of the Russian economy on economic relations between the two countries. The study briefly reviews the current situation of the Russian economy, and tries to examine the strong points to be considered as leverage for cooperation and the weak points to be overcome. Previous studies have determined that the Russian economy has unlimited potential for growth, because it is endowed with abundant resources, and has a government willing to reform for the opening of the economy, as well as high-quality labor. However, the economic structure is vulnerable to impact of the worldwide financial crisis. It is not possible to overlook its institutional fragility and vulnerability such as a corrupt bureaucracy or a relatively large black market. These undesirable factors may not only undermine the basis of Russia economy but also a hindrance to economic cooperation by increasing economic uncertainty. This paper attempts to analyze comprehensively the socio-economic factors that influence the open-economy of Russia, and to illustrate strategies for improvement in trade and commerce through the viewpoint of Korean firms that are already in business or are trying to enter in the near future. Some measures to improve their economic cooperation are suggested at the end.
