Objectives : Ontology is a good tool to represent the knowledge and has developed for Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) in Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. There are a lot of TKM terms, which have a complex meaning, especially major indication terms of medicinal treatment and terms of symptom and disease. These complex meaning terms result in the low linkage between major indication terms of medicinal treatment and terms of symptom and disease in TKM ontology. We studied to enhance the percentage of the linkage among those data in TKM ontology. Methods : We disassembled major indication terms of medicinal treatment into minimum meaning units and then linked them to enhance the percentage of the linkage among medicinal material, formula and disease ontology based on Traditional Korean Medicine. To retain objectivity, several experts of Korean Medicine used a web-based tool that supports users in refining terms and disassembling them into the minimum meaning efficiently. Results : The outcome shows that the percentage of the linkage among medicinal material, formula and disease ontology increased. By linking disassembled major indication terms to symptoms and diseases, the amount of information for medicinal materials and formulas also increased quantitatively in comparison with given formula for diseases in disease ontology. Conclusions : By this study, disassembled data increases the percentage of linkage between diseases and medicinal treatments. And the applicability of TKM ontology is also increased.
Currently, hotel search engines may help travelers find hotels, but the returned set of information is usually not satisfactory to them. It is because the engines do not understand what travelers want exactly and cannot deal with the travelers' interest which is expressed in various terms, even including some ambiguous ones. The objective of this research is to build hotel ontology using currently available semantic web technologies such as RDF, OWL and SWRL and to show how it can be used to help travelers find hotels of their interest. To that end, we analyzed available hotel-related ontologies and investigated typical terms which are used when searching for hotels in the Q&A communities. Based on the results of the analysis and investigation, we designed hotel domain ontology which consists of Objective Concepts Ontology(OCO), Universal Concepts Ontology(UCO), and Evaluation Concepts Ontology(ECO). To demonstrate the use of the ontology for a hotel search, we developed a Semantic Hotel Search System (SHSS).

Currently, in order to develop an intelligent search engine to help users retrieve information effectively, many metodes have been used. The effective retrieval methods of these methods use ontology technology. Ontology technology is the core of the Semantic Web. In the Semantic Web, ontology technology can be used to retrieve related information through the inference engine more accurately and simply on the Semantic Web. In this paper, we implement and design college information retrieval based on ontology to retrieve college class, graduate school class and person class. We have collected the hierarchy structure about the College, graduate school and person informations, and we have used protege editor of the ontology developing tool to design some ontologies with the College informations collected. We also tested the designed ontology with the Inference Engine(Pellet) of protege editor, and implemented college information retrieval system using Inference Engine(Jena) for web services.
With the personal-media development that has emerged through various means such as UCC and SNS, many media studies have been completed for the purposes of analysis and recognition, thereby improving the object-recognition level. The focus of these studies is a classification of media that is based on a recognition of the corresponding objects, rather than the use of the title, tag, and scripter information. The media-classification task, however, is intensive in terms of the consumption of time and energy because human experts need to model the underlying media ontology. This paper therefore proposes an automated approach for the modeling of the media-classification ontology schema; here, the OWL-DL Axiom that is based on the frequency of the recognized media-based objects is considered, and the automation of the ontology modeling is described. The authors conducted media-classification experiments across 15 YouTube-video categories, and the media-classification accuracy was measured through the application of the automated ontology-modeling approach. The promising experiment results show that 1500 actions were successfully classified from 15 media events with an 86 % accuracy.

With recent increase in complexity and variety of information and massively available information, interest in and necessity of ontology has been on the rise as a method of extracting a meaningful search result from massive data. Although there have been proposed many methods of extracting the ontology from a given text of a natural language, the extraction based on most of the current methods is not consistent with the structure of the ontology. In this paper, we propose a method of automatically creating ontology by distinguishing a term needed for establishing the ontology from a text given in a specific domain and extracting various relationships between the terms based on the pattern-based method. To extract the relationship between the terms, there is proposed a method of reducing the size of a searching space by taking a matching set of patterns into account and connecting a join-set concept and a pattern array. The result is that this method reduces the size of the search space by 50-95% without removing any useful patterns from the search space.

In this paper, we propose a Web navigation guidance system which automatically provides a user with semantically related links based on an ontology. The system associates each web page to a concept in the ontology and creates new links between web pages by considering relationships of the concepts defined in the ontology. It focuses on enhancing web navigation by offering semantic links based on an ontology. We experimented the proposed system with 5th grade students who were performing tasks by searching Web pages and found that the degree of disorientation, the ratio of revisits for Web pages, and time spent for completing tasks for students in the experimental group were smaller than those for students in the control group. In addition, the task performance ratio for students in the experimental group were higher than that for students in the control group. It is expected that the proposed system can help design a navigable web site that is important in Web-based education.

Many construction projects have used the building information modeling (BIM) extensively considering data interoperability throughout the projects' lifecycles. However, the current approach, which is to collect the data required to support facility maintenance system (FMS) has a significant shortcoming in that there are various individual pieces of information to represent the performance of the facility and the condition of each of the elements of the facility. Since a heterogeneous external database could be used to manage a construction project, all of the conditions related to the building cannot be included in an integrated BIM-based building model for data exchange. In this paper, we proposed an ontology-based facility maintenance information model to integrate multiple, related pieces of information on the construction project using industry foundation classesbased (IFC-based) BIM data. The proposed process will enable the engineers who are responsible for facility management to use a BIM-based model directly in the FMS-based work process without having to do additional data input. The proposed process can help ensure that the management of FMS information is more accurate and reliable.

In developing information systems, conceptual modeling is among the most fundamental means. The importance attributed to conceptual modeling has not only given rise to a lot of modeling methods, but also to the "yet another modeling approach (YAMA)" syndrome and the "not another modeling approach (NAMA)" hysteria. Criticism of conceptual modeling methods usually targets their lacking of theoretical foundations. In response to such criticism, various approaches towards theoretical foundations of conceptual modeling have been proposed so far. One of the recent responses to the quest for theoretical foundations of conceptual modeling is the reference to the philosophical ontology. The currently most prominent of diverse approaches towards ontological foundations of conceptual modeling appears to be the Bunge-Wand-Weber (BWW) ontology. Recent approaches attempt to regard BWW ontology as another conceptual data model as well as a criterion for evaluating various conceptual models. However, unfortunately, relatively few researches have been made on interoperability between the Entity-Relationship (ER) model, which is the most dominant conceptual data model, and ontology based model. In this paper, we investigate the interoperability between ontology and the ER model. In detail we (i) reclassify components of ER model with respect to ontology concepts, (ii) identify some components that cannot be directly represented in ontology notation, and (iii) present alternative representations to the components to acquire ontologically clear ER diagrams. Additionally, we (iv) present a set of mapping rules for converting the ontologically clear ER diagram into the corresponding ontology. In a case study, we show the process of converting an ER diagram for a concise Project Management System (PMS) into the ontologically clear ER diagram and the corresponding ontology. We also describe an experiment that we undertook to test whether users understand the Ontologically-Clear ER diagram better.
Success of a semantic web application, currently base on web technology, depend on web ontology construction that provided rule and inference function about knowledge. For, this study compared the ontology construction methods that were already proposed, and analyzed, and investigated characteristics of semantic web and web ontology, investigated characteristics of semantic web and web ontology, and defined characteristics of web ontology as-based technology of a semantic web application and knowledge representation steps, and studied a technical element that related currently web technology, and proposed a web ontology construction method for a semantic web application with bases to these. Established web ontologies of various knowledge fields as applied the construction method that proposed. Also evaluate performance of web ontology through inference verification of web ontologies established, web ontologies evaluated performance of web ontology as used inference verification. According to this, we confirmed that proposed construction method that can establish the ontology suitable for semantic web application.
