양파 껍질 추출물을 함유한 안면 마스크 팩의 주름 개선 효과 (Anti-wrinkle Effect of Facial Mask Pack Containing Oinon (Allium cepa) Skin Extracts)

  • In this study, the domestic onion skin has been used to investigate the anti-wrinkle effect of the ethanolic extract. The onion skin has been known to contain a large amount of antioxidant including quercetin. Solvent extraction by 80% ethanol was carried out of the onion skin. The high amount of quercetin have been identified using HPLC as a bioactive compound. The extraction yield of the quercetin increased according to temperature up to $80^{\circ}C$. Two different antioxidant assays (DPPH and ABTS) were performed to determine the free-radical scavenging activity of onion skin extracts. The antioxidant activities ($EC_{50}$ of DPPH) of the vitamin C and the onion extracts were 2.2 and $5.09{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. The results of ABTS tests were 2.33 (of vitamin C) and $2.40{\mu}g/mL$ (of the onion extracts), respectively. In a clinical study, a panel of 10 female volunteers between the ages of 30 and 40 (mean age: 42 years) was given a mask pack containing 1% of this extracts for 4 weeks. It was shown that a highly significant reduction in the deep and moderate wrinkled was obtained with those treated with this onion extracts as compared to the control group. The reduction in deep wrinkles increased with time. Eye wrinkle were reduced statistically significant (p<0.05). The application of the proper topical cream and mask pack containing onion skin extracts has therefore shown to be effective enhancing anti-wrinkle activities.

양파껍질 추출물의 항산화 및 상승효과 (Antioxidant Effect of Onion Skin Extract)

  • The antioxidant and synergistic effect of methanol extracts of onion skin were investigated by measuring peroxide value. The inhibitory effects of the extracts against metal catalyzed oxidation were also studied. The antioxidant activity of methanol extract (0.02%) of onion skin was stronger than that of mixed tocopherol or ascorbic acid (0.02%), but weaker than that of BHT (0.02%). However, the methanol extract at the concentration of 0.04% exhibited strong antioxidant effect, comparable to that of BHT (0.02%). The methanol extract showed very strong synergistic effect with the mixed tocopherol. The methanol extracts at the concentration of 0.03% and 0.04% acted as metal deactivator in the presence of FeC1$_3$. As a metal deactivator, methanol extract of onion skin appeared to be more effective than citric acid.

Quantification of Quercetin in Different Parts of Onion and Its DPPH Radical Scavenging and Antibacterial Activity

  • Levels of quercetin in different parts of onion were investigated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS) suitable for use with functional food material. Two main peaks were observed on HPLC chromatograms from the extracts of the skin, and the outer, middle, and core parts of onion. Using LC/MS, peak 1 was tentatively identified as quercetin monoglucoside at m/z 466.4, and peak 2 as quercetin with [M]+ at m/z 303.3. The levels of quercetin in the skin, and the outer, middle and core parts of the plant were 16.83,2.67,0.95, and 0.35 mg/g, respectively. In the study of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, skin, the nonedible part, contained the highest amount of quercetin, compared to the other edible parts, and showed the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity. Levels of quercetin and DPPH radical scavenging activity increased from core to skin. All parts of onion exhibited the strongest antibacterial activity only against Staphylococcus aureus and Vibro parahaemolyticus. Antibacterial activities of onion exhibited that S. aureus was more sensitive than V. parahaemolyticus. Among the four onion extracts, the middle part showed the strongest inhibitory activity against S. aureus but all onion extracts showed similar antibacterial activities against V. parahaemolyticus.

양파(Allium cepa) 외피 추출물이 모발의 미세구조에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Ultrastructure with Onion (Allium cepa) Skin Extracts on Human Hair Dyeing)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 양파 외피를 분상의 상태로 제조하여 모발염색의 최적에 조건을 규명하기 위해 V.H.에 4회 탈색 (B.H.)하여 시험모를 제작한 후 양파 외피 추출물을 시간, 온도, 농도, pH, 매염제 처리별로 조건을 달리하여 모발의 염색성과 기계적 형태학적 변화를 관찰하였다. 모발 표면을 주사전자현미경을 통해 관찰한 결과 모표피층이 완전 용해된 B.H.에 비해 양파 외피 추출물로 염색한 모발에 경우 약간 들떠있는 상태는 보이지만 모표피층이 형성되어 있는 것을 관찰할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 연구의 결과로부터 양파 외피에서 추출한 천연 색소는 분상의 염모제로 제조 시 대량 생산과 보관에 있어 효과적으로 실용화가 충분히 가능하다고 사료된다.

  • In this study, the dyeing of Chrysanthemum indicum Linne alone and the combined dyeing of Chrysanthemum indicum Linne and onion shell were first performed to compare dyeing properties. A combination extract of Chrysanthemum indicum Linne and onion shell can be expected to improve coloration. A Hanbok design for children used a natural dyeing fashion dyeing method to make the Chrysanthemum pattern. Chrysanthemum indicum Linne is a type of wild chrysanthemum with various medicinal effects for headache and stress relief, skin diseases, insomnia and depression. Widely used onion shells have medicinal properties that help prevent and treat various adult diseases. The colors of silk dyed exclusively by Chrysanthemum indicum Linne, and the colors of silk dyed by Chrysanthemum indicum Linne and onion shell extract are yellow; in addition, silk dyed by Chrysanthemum indicum Linne and onion shell extracts were almost all unchanged. Four hanboks, which are comfortable for children to wear and use, were produced using Chrysanthemum indicum Linne and onion shell extracts. If children wear hanbok fashion products with auspicious patterns, they can provide a chance to simultaneously experience the traditional symbolism of Korean patterns and culture. In addition, it is expected to develop pride in traditional dress culture.

무, 양파의 시료제조 방법에 따른 흰쥐의 지방대사와 항산화능에 관한 연구 (Effect of Dry Powders, Ethanol Extracts and Juices of Radish and Onion on Lipid Metabolism and Antioxidative Capacity in Rats)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of dry powders, ethanol extracts and juices of radish and onion on lipid metabolism, lipid peroxidation and antioxidative enzyme activity in rats. Forty-nine male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 157$\pm$6g were blocked into seven groups according to body weight and raised for four weeks with diets containing 5%(w/w) dry powders of two different vegetables consumed frequently by Korean-radish(Raphanus sativus L.) and onion(Allium cepa L.), ethanol extracts and juices from equal amount of each dry powder. All the powders, ethanol extracts and juices of radish and onion decreased total lipids, triglycerides and total cholesterol concentrations in plasma and liver. Above all, onion ethanol extract decreased them most remarkably. It was thought that organosulfur compounds and flavonoids extracted from onion by ethanol inhibited biosynthesis and absorption of lipid and promoted degradation of lipid. Radish powder also decreased them by increasing fecal excretions of total lipids, triglycerides and total cholesterol most effectively. Catalase and glutathine peroxidase(GSH-px) activities in red blood cell(RBC) were most remarkably increased by radish powder and onion powder respectively. Superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase and GSH-px activities in liver were most remarkably increased by onion ethanol extract, radish powder and onion ethanol extract respectively. Xanthine oxidase(XOD) activities in liver were most effectively decreased by ethanol extracts of radish and onion. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) levels in plasma and liver of experimental groups were significantly lower than those of controls. Above all, onion powder decreased them most effectively. It was thought that vitamin E and high flavonoids in onion powder inhibited lipid peroxidation, promoting liver and RBC SOD, catalase and GSH-px activities and inhibiting XOD activities effectively. Flavonoids in onion ethanol extract inhibited lipid peroxidation, promoting three antioxident enzyme activities and inhibiting XOD activities most remarkably. Also flavonoids and high vitamin C in radish powder inhibited lipid peroxidation, promoting liver and RBC catalase most remarkably and inhibiting XOD activities. In conclusion, radish and onion were effective in lowering lipid levels and inhibiting of lipid peroxidation in animal tissue. From these data, radish and onion can be recommended in the treatment and prevention of diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer and in delaying aging. As ethanol from onion were most effective in lowering lipid level and promoting three antioxident enzymes, and inhibited lipid peroxidation as did we should try to utilize onion skin which is discarded though reported to have abundant flavonoids. 양파의 추출방법과 추출액의 살균·저장에 따른 기능성성분 분석 (Investigation of Functional Ingredients from Onion According to the Extraction Methods, Heat Treatment, and Storage Period)

  • 추출방법에 따른 기능성 성분을 분석한 결과 양파 착즙액의 경우 100$^{\circ}C$에서 열수 추출한 시료에서 총 phenol, flavonoid, quercetin의 함량이 가장 높게 검출되었으며, 에탄올 추출 시 100$^{\circ}C$에서 추출한 시료와 거의 유사한 농도의 기능성 성분이 검출되었다. 양파 추출액의 quercetin 함량은 총 flavonoid의 80-90%로 quercetin이 flavonoid의 대부분을 구성하는 것으로 확인되었다. 양파분말의 경우 착즙액과 비교하여 추출된 flavonoid와 quercetin 함량이 약간 높았지만, thiosulfinate는 약 40% 낮은 농도를 나타내어 동결건조 과정이 황화합물의 손실을 초래하는 것으로 나타났다. 양파 껍질은 육질에 비하여 60배 이상 높은 quercetin을 함유하고 있는 것으로 나타났으나, thiosulfinate는 껍질에서 검출되지 않았다. 양파 추출액의 살균조건에 따른 기능성 성분을 분석한 결과 60, 80, 105, 121$^{\circ}C$의 열처리는 살균 전과 비교하여 기능성 성분의 함량에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 양파 추출액의 저장동안 총 phenol, flavonoid, quercetin 함량은 저장기간과 온도에 상관없이 안정적으로 유지되었으나, thiosulfinate는 저장 기간이 길어질수록 감소하였고 25$^{\circ}C$에 저장한 경우 4$^{\circ}C$에서 보다 급격히 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다.

전남 함평산 자색양파 추출물의 항균효과와 피부장벽 보호효과 (The Anti-bacterial Effects and Epidermal Permeability Barrier Function of Red Onion Juice Produced in Jeon-Nam province in Korea)

  • 1. 추출방법, 추출농도에 따라 항균력의 차이가 있었으나, 일반양파, 자색양파의 1%, 5%, 10% 생즙추출물 모두, 피부상재균인 Staphylococcus epidermidis(KCTC1917), Staphylococcus aureus subsp(ATCC6538)에 양호한 항균력을 보였다(81%~100%). 어성초 열수추출물은 10% 고농도에서만 피부상재균인 Staphylococcus epidermidis(KCTC1917), Staphylococcus aureus subsp(ATCC6538)에 항균력을 보였다(100%). 2. 자색양파, 어성초, 일반양파의 1%, 5%, 10% 추출물 모두, 식중독 균인 Escherichia coil, Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica에서는 항균력을 보이지 않았다. 3. 자색양파 추출물과 어성초 추출물을 0.01%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.5%로 처리하였을 때, 피부장벽 조절인자인 filaggrin과 SPT의 발현을 농도 의존적으로 증가시켰다. 반면, 일반양파 추출물도 농도 의존적으로 filaggrin과 SPT발현양을 증가시켰지만, 자색양파 추출물에 비하여 발현양이 많지 않았다. 4. 피부 염증 반응 인자에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해서 COX-2의 발현과 AP-1의 발현을 분석한 결과, 자색양파와 어성초의 0.01%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.5% 추출물에서 농도 의존적으로 COX-2의 발현과 AP-1의 발현이 감소하였다. 반면 일반양파 추출물도 농도 의존적으로 COX-2의 발현과 AP-1의 발현이 감소하였으나, 자색 양파 추출물에 비하여 감소양이 적었다. 5. 자색양파 추출물과 어성초 추출물은 피부 장벽기능 조절인자인 filaggrin과 SPT의 발현양을 증가시켜 줌으로써, 피부의 수분 유지 기능을 강화하였고, 농도 의존적으로 피부 염증 반응 인자도 감소시켜 항염증효과가 있어, 피부미용기능재료로서의 가능성 보여주었다.

양파껍질에서 분리된 용매 추출물의 항산화효과 (Antioxidant Activity of Solvent Extract from Onion Skin)

  • 양파껍질중에 존재하는 항산화물질을 여러 용매로 분획하여 그 항산화효과를 비교하고, butanol fraction의 TLC에 의한 재분획 및 총페놀함량, 수소공여능 및 UV spectral 분석을 행하였다. 메타놀추출물의 항산화 효과는 첨가농도가 증가함에 따라 증가되었다. 메타놀추출물의 용매 분획물의 항산화효과는 buthanol> ethyl acetate> ethyl ether>water fraction의 순으로 나타났다. 이들의 항산화효과는 총페놀함량 및 수소공여능과 밀접한 관계를 보였다. TLC에 의한 butanol fraction의 재분획 결과 Rf치 0.20, 0.33, 0.49, 0.60 및 0.94을 나타내는 형광띠를 나타내었다. Rf치 0.94의 형광 band는 다른 형광 band에 비해 현저히 강한 것으로 보여 주었으며 flavonol의 존재를 나타내는 에서 나타나는 255 nm와 317 nm에서 강한 흡수가 보였다. Spectral analyses 결과 양파껍질 중에 함유되어 있는 주요 항산화성 물질은 quercetin aglycone (3,3',4',5,7-pentahydroxyflavone)인 것으로 확인되었다.
