Since multimedia data takes large part of realtime transmission in wireless communication environments such as IEEE 802.11, QoS issues became one of the important problems with network performance. 802.11e MAC provides differentiated services based on priority schemes to solve existing 802.11 MAC problems. The TXOP is an important factor with the priority to improve network performance and QoS because it defines the time duration in which multiple frames can be transferred at one time for each station. In this paper, therefore frame sizes, TXOP Limit, and Priority values in accordance with the number of stations are experimented and derived for best network performance and QoS. Using 802.11e standard parameters, simulation results show the best throughput when the number of stations is 5 and TXOP Limit value is 6.016ms. For fairness, the best result is achieved at 3.008ms of TXOP Limit value and 15-31 of CW(Contention Window) that is lower priority than CW 7-15.
In general, data packets from sensor nodes are transferred to the sink node in a wireless sensor networks. So many data packets are gathered around the sink node, resulting in significant packet collision and delay. In this paper, we propose an efficient packet transmission mechanism for multi-hop wireless sensor networks. The proposed mechanism is composed of two modes. One mode works between sink node and 1-hop nodes from sink. In this mode, data packets are transmitted in predefined time slots to reduce collisions. The other mode works between other nodes except sink node. In this mode, duplicated packets from neighbor nodes can be detected and dropped using some control signals. Our numerical analysis and simulation results show that our mechanism outperforms X-MAC and RI-MAC in terms of energy consumption and transmission delay.

In this paper, a traffic adaptive sleep based medium access control (TAS-MAC) protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is proposed. The protocol aims for WSNs which consist of clustered sensor nodes and is based on TDMA-like schema. It is a typical schedule based mechanism which is adopted in previous protocols such as LEACH and Bit-Map Assisted MAC. The proposed MAC, however, considers unexpected long silent period in which sensor nodes have no data input and events do not happen in monitoring environment. With the simple traffic measurement, the TAS-MAC eliminates scheduling phases consuming energy in previous centralized approaches. A frame structure of the protocol includes three periods, investigation (I), transmission (T), and sleep-period (S). Through the I-period, TAS-MAC aggregates current traffic information from each end node and dynamically decide the length of sleep period to avoid energy waste in long silent period. In spite of the energy efficiency of this approach, the delay of data might increase. Thus, we propose an advanced version of TAS-MAC as well, each node in cluster sends one or more data packets to cluster head during the T-period of a frame. Through simulation, the performance in terms of energy consumption and transmission delay is evaluated. By comparing to BMA-MAC, the results indicate the proposed protocol is more energy efficient with tolerable expense in latency, especially in variable traffic situation.

Underwater sensor networks (UWSNs) employ acoustic channels for communications. One of the main characteristics of the underwater acoustic channel is long propagation delay. Previously proposed MAC (medium access control) protocols for wireless sensor networks cannot be directly used in UWSNs due to the long propagation delay. The long propagation delay and uneven nodes deployments cause spatial fairness in UWSNs. Therefore, a new MAC protocol for UWSNs needs to be developed to provide efficient communications. In this paper, we propose an efficient MAC protocol in order to alleviate the fairness problem. In the proposed scheme, when a node receives a RTS packet, it does not immediately send back but delays a CTS packet. The node collects several RTS packets from source nodes during the delay time. It chooses one of the RTS packets based on the queue status information. And then, it sends a CTS packet to the source node which sent the chosen RTS packet. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated via simulation. Simulation results show that our scheme is effective and alleviates the fairness problem.
Almost literature has so far proposed the modifications to IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC protocol to improve system throughput and average delay. Jitter(variance in packet delays) is, however, considered as an important QoS parameter for real-time streaming service which is popularized increasingly. Unfortunately, legacy access protocol for WLAN can't support the jitter. This paper proposes two schemes modifying the DCF MAC protocol to reduce the average value of jitter for multimedia frames arrived at received nodes. The one scheme, referred to as DCW-DCF(Decreasing Contention Window-DCF), reduces CW(Contention Window) size by half whenever a transmitted frame collided against other frames and back-off happens. Also, it increase initial CW size according as the link utilization and the collision probability increase. The other scheme, referred to as D-DIFS(Differential-DIFS), assigns different values to DIFS. That is, the DIFS interval is deceased as the number of back-off for a frame increases. In this paper, the two schemes are evaluated through simulation using ns2 and simulation results show that the proposed schemes are effective for improving the jitter property of standard WLAN.

We define the incomplete medium sharing system as a multi-channel shared medium communication system where any types of constraints are imposed to the set of channels that may be allocated to any transmitter-receiver node pair. A set of distributed MAC schemes are proposed, all of which are based on the CSMA/CA scheme employed in IEEE 802. 11 WLAN standards. Distributed MAC schemes are proposed in three different forms, which can be differentiated by the number and the location of back-off timers; that is, (1) one timer for all queues destined for different receiver nodes, (2) multiple timers at individual transmission queues, (3) multiple timers for individual channels. Through an extensive set of computer simulations, the performances of the proposed MAC schemes show that the MAC scheme with timers at individual transmission queues outperform the others in terms of throughput and delay for most cases considered. The complexity of the proposed schemes is also compared, and the first scheme obviously turned out to be the simplest, and the complexity of the second and third schemes depends on the number of receiver nodes and the number of channels, respectively.
With the application and promotion of biometric technology, biometrics has become more and more important to identity authentication. In order to ensure the privacy of the user, the biometrics cannot be stored or manipulated in plaintext. Aiming at this problem, this paper analyzes and summarizes the scheme and performance of the existing biometric authentication system, and proposes an iris-based ciphertext authentication system based on fully homomorphic encryption using the FV scheme. The implementation of the system is partly powered by Microsoft's SEAL (Simple Encrypted Arithmetic Library). The entire system can complete iris authentication without decrypting the iris feature template, and the database stores the homomorphic ciphertext of the iris feature template. Thus, there is no need to worry about the leakage of the iris feature template. At the same time, the system does not require a trusted center for authentication, and the authentication is completed on the server side directly using the one-time MAC authentication method. Tests have shown that when the system adopts an iris algorithm with a low depth of calculation circuit such as the Hamming distance comparison algorithm, it has good performance, which basically meets the requirements of real application scenarios.
The Spatial information research institute of the LX Korea land and geospatial informatix corporation manages infrastructure for the LX global navigation satellite system (GNSS), which comprises 30 monitoring stations nationwide. Since 2014, it has conducted network real-time kinematic (RTK) tests using the master-auxiliary concept (MAC). This study introduces the infrastructure of LX GNSS and presents the results of a performance analysis of the LX RTK service. The analysis was based on a total of 25 cadastral topographic control points in Jeonju, Seoul, and Incheon. For each point, performance was measured over one observation, two repeated observations, and five repeated observations. The measurements obtained from LX MAC and the VRS of the National Geographic Information Institute were compared with the announced coordinates derived from cadastral topographic control points. As a result, the two systems were found to have similar performance with average error and standard deviation differing only by 1 to 2 cm.
In recent years, the predominant part in telecommunications is mobile communications. The next generation network is extending today's voice-only mobile networks to multi-service networks. ATM Network is possible to carry such multi-media traffic and it will be expect to use wireless ATM for the future mobile access network. One of manly important aspects for the performance of wireless ATM is the Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. The MAC protocol must be able to satisfyingly handle the different ATM services (CBR, VBR, ABR and UBR) with their radically different performance requirements. Additionally, the MAC protocol must be able to cope with the complex radio environment where fading, multi-path propagation interference and burst-errors further complicate the situation. In this paper, a dynamic slot allocation algorithm in wireless ATM is proposed for an efficient channel sharing/media access at the MAC layer. We use equivalent capacity in the allocation of slots for VBR traffic which is variable along the time. It is simple and effective slot allocation method for VBR service. In particular, we consider the slot allocation of a session consisted of several connections for requirement of multimedia traffic. Simulation shows that the cell loss ratio is reduced by re-allocation of extra slots in Mobile Terminal (MT).

In this paper, we propose an Enhanced cross-layer Geographic Forwarding (EGF) protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). EGF uses an optimal back-off time to make the packet forwarding decisions using only source and destination's location information and energy cost without information about neighbor nodes' location or the number of one hop neighbor nodes. EGF is also a cross-layer protocol by combining efficient asynchronous MAC and geographic routing protocol. The proposed protocol can find optimal next hop location quickly without broadcasting node's location update and with minimizing overhead. In our performance evaluation, EGF has better performance in terms of packet success ratio, energy efficiency and end-to-end delay in wireless sensor networks.
