  • In Korea ,little attention was paid to chiggers until 1950 so only to reports on four species of chiggers were pulished before Korean War. Since 1950 (beginning of Korean War), a marked progress in the study of chiggers has been made in connection with investigations of Epidemic hemorrhagic fever occurring among the United Nations troops which was suspected as a chigger-borne infectious disease and the first report of tsutsugamushi disease in Korea called natives attention to chiggers as the vector mites of this newly known disease in Korea. This paper is mostly based on specimens of author's collections from 3269 Rodentia Insectivora, 9 Chiroptera, 24 Aves , 35 Amphibia and 3 Reptilia during the time from December 1955 to December 1956 but four species were introduced here from works of others . There are reported here five species of chiggers previously known only out of Korea and a new species also. This new species was collected by author but Lipovsky informed his colleague had collected the same one in Korea and they would publish it as new one in near future. This is the reason of describing the new species without specific name . Of course, this paper is incomplete in view of the geographic distribution, seosonal change and host relation etc, but will serve as a brief summary of the chiggers fauna of Korea up to the present. This species described here are as follows : Gahrliepia brennani var. ventralis Neoschongastia posekanyi Euschongastia kigtajimai Euschongastia miyagawai Euschongastia koreaensis Trombicula nagayoi Trombicula japonica Trombicula pomeranzevi Trombicula mitamurai Trombicula tamiyai Trombicula palpalis Trombicula orientalis Trombicula pallida Trombicula scutellaris Trobmicula miotis Trombicula hiranumai Trombicula sp. Trombicula hiranumai Trombicula sp. Trombicula subintermedius Shunsennia tarsalis . Euschongastia ikaoensis . Trombicula koomori Trombicul subakanushi

  • A new marine halacarid species of the genus Agauopsis Viets, 1927 (Acari: Halacaridae) is recorded from Jeju Island, Korea. Agauopsis tetrasetosa n. sp. belongs to the microrhyncha group in sharing one ventral and three ventromedial spines on tibia of leg I, of which two ventromedial ones are adjacent to each other, with its 20 congeneric members. Agauopsis tetrasetosa n. sp. is most similar to A. miliaris Bartsch, 2005 and A. similis Bartsch, 1979 in sharing the similar chaetotaxy of legs I-IV, positions of the second and fourth dorsal setae, and non 'H'- or 'M'-shaped costae on anterior dorsal plate. However, the new species is distinguished from them by four pairs of perigenital setae in female, the relatively anterior location of gland pores on posterior dorsal plate, and three ventral spines on the tibia of leg II. We describe the new species herein, with detailed illustrations under a differential interference contrast microscope. We also make some brief comments on the affinities between the congeneric species of the microrhyncha group and the new species, based on a tabular key to species of the group.

  • The genus Chrysothrix is very common around the world and easy to be recognized by its bright yellowish granular thallus. In this study, investigations of lichen mycota in South Korea and Chile from 2010 to 2017 have been done, and some Chrysothrix specimens were collected, based on the morphological and chemical study on these specimens, five species were confirmed in this study, including one new species from Chile, Chrysothrix chilensis D. Liu & J.-S Hur, and one new record from South Korea, C. xanthina (Vain.) Kalb. Meanwhile, detail description and illustration for each species were present in this study.

(A. midori Uchida and Muramatsu)에 공생한다.

  • Two new marine sponges, Clathria (Clthria) jungtaedoensis n. sp. and Antho (Antho) hataedoensis n. sp. were collected in Taedo Island, Korea. C. (C.) jungtaedoensis n. sp. is similar to C. (C.) striata. The new species, however, has many small toxa and massive form. A. (A.) hataedoensis n. sp. is similar to A. (A.) inconstans from Gulf of Naples, Italy, but differs from the latter in the size of spicules. The toxa in the new species is about one third as long as A. (A.) inconstans's.

  • This study describes a new species of cytheroid ostracod, Paradoxostoma koreana sp. nov., collected in Korea. In addition, three other cytheroid ostracods, P. setoense Schornikov, 1975, Loxoconcha pulchra Ishizaki, 1968, and Ishizakiella miurensis (Hanai, 1957), are reported with brief descriptions and images. Paradoxostoma setoense and L. pulchra were previously only known from Japan, while I. miurensis was previously reported from Korea. Here, we describe variability in hemipenis morphology observed in the Korean population. The new species is closely related to several East Asian species, but its sister species is P. rhomboideum Okubo, 1977. The primary difference between the new species and P. rhomboideum is morphology of the distal projections of the hemipenis, but minor differences exist in the details of the cheatotaxy of other appendages. This report also provides a list of all East Asian Paradoxostomatidae.

  • Araneidae Clerck, 1757 is one of the largest families within the order Araneae Clerck, 1757, comprising 3,065 species in 177 genera. To date, two species of the genus Mengora O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1889 and four species of the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 have been recorded in Korea. During a seasonal survey of the spider fauna in mountainous terrain conducted from 2018 to 2019, females of Mangora foliosa Zhu & Yin, 1998 and a male of Araniella robusta sp. nov. were collected with a sweep net between shrubs in mixed forests from Mt. Juwangsan National Park. In this paper, we provide a diagnosis of the new species and descriptions including measurements and morphological illustrations. The new species, Araniella robusta sp. nov., can be easily distinguished from other species in the genus Araniella Chamberlin & Ivie, 1942 by a branched conductor with two blunt tips and conjugation of the embolus tip and terminal apophysis.

  • Eight species of Chironomidae (Diptera) which are new to Korea are described with illustrations. They are extremely rare species in Korea, as only one or two specimens have been collected since 1977 throughout the country. Microchironomus tener, Stictochironomus akizukii and Paratendipes nubilus belong to subfamily Chironominae, and the other five species: Diplocladius cultriger, Limnophyes minimus, Metriocnemus fulvofasciatus and Parametriocnemus stylatus belong to subfamily Orthocladiinae.

  • In this paper, the author is going to describe a new species of Castianeira paikdoensis sp. novo from Paikdo, Korea. Up to the present, only one species, C shaxianensis G$_{ONG}$, 1983 of Genus Castianeira has been reported in Korea(P$_{AIK}$, 1991). The type of specimen is deposited in the Arachnological Institute of Korea
