  • Four homalotine species-Anomognathus armatus (Sharp), Heterota onorum Maruyama, Neosilusa ceylonica (Kraatz), and Silusa lanuginosa Sharp-and three genera-Anomognathus Solier, Neosilusa Cameron, Silusa Erichson-are identified for the first time in Korea. The tribe Homalotini can be distinguished from other related tribes by the combination of the following characters: tarsal formula 4-4-5; mandible with patch or rows of denticles in ventral molar region; base of medial setae of prementum very close together, setal insertions in contact in many, setae displaced one behind the other in some; medial pseudopore field of prementum very narrow in many. Habitus photographs, diagnoses, and illustrations of male genitalia of these four species are provided.

  • A type specimen is the specimen originally used to name a new species; thus, it is one of the most significant materials for taxonomic study. In our study on the inventory and management of endemic species in Korea, we checked the type materials for Pseudolysimachion pusanensis (Y. Lee) Y. Lee, combination name Veronica pusanensis Y. Lee, recorded as deposited at the herbaria of the Ewha Womans University and the National Institute of Biological Resources, and failed to find any specimens. Thus, we concluded that all type specimens of V. pusanensis have since been misplaced. According to articles 9.11 and 9.13 of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants, it is necessary to select a neotype if the holotype is missing and no other original material exists. Therefore, we designate the neotype maintained in the herbarium of the National Institute of Biological Resources of the Republic of Korea.

  • Larvae and pupae of Simulium (Eusimulium) satsumense were collected and recorded from Korea for the first time. Detailed descriptions and photographs of both immatures are provided. Currently, 42 species are known from the subgenus Eusimulium, which is found globally, mainly in the Holarctic Region, but unknown from Korea. Members of the subgenus Eusimulium are morphologically homogeneous in male, female, and pupa, making them extremely difficult to distinguish from one another. S. (E.) satsumense can be distinguished from other Korean black flies by the following combination of the characteristics: Pupa: Gill of four slender filaments, dorsalmost filament strongly divergent from other filaments; cocoon slipper shaped without anterodorsal projection; Larva: Head spots distinctly positive; postgenal cleft short, apically rounded or squared; antenna with proximal segment brown; abdominal segments IX with prominent ventral tubercles; and rectal papillae of three simple lobes. In addition to descriptions for larvae and pupae of the species, a key to genera and subgenera of Simulium of Korean black flies are also provided.

  • In the microcaddisfly family Hydroptilidae, only 12 species belonging to four genera are known currently from the Korean Peninsula. Yet, worldwide this family is one of the biggest of the Trichoptera families. Collection from 2015 to 2017 by aerial sweeping and light-trapping in the southeastern part of Korean Peninsula (Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongsangnam-do) included species not recorded previously from the Korean Peninsula. We provide re-descriptions of the six species(Hydroptila dampfi Ulmer, 1929, H. introspinata Zhou and Sun, 2009, Orthotrichia costalis(Curtis, 1834), O. tragetti Mosely, 1930, Oxyethira miea $Ol{\acute{a}}h$ and Ito, 2013, and Stactobia nishimotoi Botosaneanu and Nozaki, 1996) to improve comprehension of Korean hydroptilids.

  • A newly recorded species of lysianassid amphipod, Anonyx schefferi Steele, 1986 which belongs to the family Uristidae Hurley, 1963 was collected from the East Sea of Korea. The genus Anonyx Krøyer, 1838 was subdivided into five groups mainly based on the amount of constriction of the inner ramus of uropod 2: A. bispinosus group, A. compactus group, A. laticoxae group, A. nugax group, A. validus group. Anonyx schefferi is included in one of the A. laticoxae group. This species is similar to Anonyx laticoxae Gurjanova, 1962, but A. schefferi is characterized by an unconstricted inner ramus of uropod 2 and an upturned epimeron 3 posteroventrally. The species is described and fully illustrated in the present study.

  • Recently many studies show that genetic characters can be used to provide unambiguous taxonomic discrimination when morphological characters are not practical for routine identification to species level (Bucklin et al., 1996, 1998; Lindeque et al., 1999). The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of the nuclear ribosomal DNA are also one of appropriate markers for species-level studies because it contains sufficient diversity to address intra- and interspecific phylogenetic relationships in invertebrates (Odorico and Miller,1997; Schizas et al., 1999).
