Four genera of metazoan parasites were recovered from 3 of 6 Sebastes pinniger examined during January 2003. Two hundred forty-five metazoan parasites were recovered. Trochopus trituba Sekerak and Arai, 1977 and Anisakis larvae were found to he infected S. finniger Gill and te be abundant in this rockfish. One hundred eleven worms of monogenean trematodes and 134 larval anisakine nematodes were also found in this fishes. Precise positions with regard to gills, fins, and gastrointestinal tracts were recorded on S. pinniger to determine distribution of metazoan parasites of Trochopus trituba, Anisakis simplex larva, Contracaecum sp. larva, and Pseudo terranova decipiens larva. The monogenean trematodes, T. trituba were attacked to the gill arches and fin, and the larval anisakine nematodes, A. simplex, Contracaecum sp.,and P. decipiens were found on the visceral organs such as intestine, omentum and stomach wall. The second gill arches were the most heavily infested and posterodorsal region of the gill arches contained most monegenenn trematodes. The nam site of infestation of larval anisakine nematodes were the intestine.
A Patient (Korean native cow, 4 years old, 300 kg, female), with chief complaint of anorexia for long period was admitted to the Chungnam national University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. At necropsy findings, hard masses of necrotic fat were located in the omentum, rectum, kidney, colon, heart and thoracic cavity, respectively. The yellowish changes also were observed in liver, spleen and lung, respectively. In histopathological findings, fatty accumulation was observed by microscopic observation in each organ of fatty masses. Hamatological analysis revealed the low levels of Hb, PCV and neutrophil. Blood chemical analysis indicated the high concentration of Cholestelol and Triglyceride. That patient was diagnosed as typical case of lipomatosis by clinical, blood, blood chemical and pathological examinations.
22 Cases of traumatic diaphragmatic injuries treated at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in Chon-Buk National University Hospital from Jan. 1979 to Oct. 1988 were reviewed in this study. Of the 22 cases, 18 were male and 3 were female, a ratio of 4.5:1. This ratio revealed high incidence in male patient. The age distribution ranged from 2 to 60 years and mean age was 31 years. The modes of injury were as follows: 11 stab wound, 5 traffic accident, 2 fall down, 2 fighting injury, 1 compression wound by sand bag, and 1 slip down injury. Useful diagnostic tools were chest X-ray with or without radiopaque dye swallowing, which was the most commonly diagnostic, UGI series, and thoracoscope. Operations were performed in 22 cases, and 18 cases were through thoracotomy. The herniated organs through the ruptured diaphragm were stomach, omentum, liver, spleen, colon, and small bowel. There were associated injuries, and the most commonly associated was rib fracture. There was no postoperative death.
Morgagni, in 1760, 1st. described the findings of substernal herniation of abdominal contents into the thoracic cavity, based upon 25 postmortem dissections. Herniation through the foramen of Morgagni is the rarest occurrence of the congenital diaphragmatic hernias and is usually a few symptoms. With the increasing use of routine chest roentgenogram & the need to exclude the possibility of a mediastinal neoplasm, most such cases are brought to the attention of a surgeon. We had experienced 2 cases of Morgagni hernia, which one caused a simple mechanical intestinal obstruction & diagnosed as acute appendicitis with perforation & another one was diagnosed as mediastinal lipoma on routine chest X-ray film at arrival due to traffic accident. We had performed left paramedian abdominal incision as misdiagnosis of acute appendicitis with perforation and repair of the defect and returned transverse colon & stomach into abdominal cavity in one patient. And in another patient, we preferred to approach through right thoracotomy incision and then left upper paramedian abdominal incision and returned the omentum into the abdominal cavity. The post-operative courses were in uneventful and we report these cases and review and discuss the literatures.
A hemangiosarcoma in a 30 kg, 6-year-old German Shepherd dog showing signs of abdominal distension, anorexia and depression was diagnosed with clinicopathologic examination, abdominal radiographs and ultrasonographic assessmint. In abdominal radiographs, overall abdominal distension was seen. Stomach and some parts of small intestines were deviated caudo-ventrally by enlarged liver. The splenomegaly was also identified and descending colon was dislocated laterally by splenic mass. In ultrasonographic findings, abdominal fluid was identified. Hepatomegaly was seen and it was consisted of multiple, anechoic cysts. The spleen was enlarged and a large round mass with mixed echo pattern at the mid to tail portion of spleen was identified. Grossly, at necropsy, multi-sized cysts in which contained blood and fibrpus materials and some blood were seen in the cross section and it showed hard consistency. Also, lots of small red tumor nodules were dispersed on the serosal surface of the bladder, omentum, mesentery, diaphragm and peritoneum. In abdominal paracentesis, fluid having almost the same properties as circulating blood was identified. The hemoperitoneum was thought to be resulted from the bleeding into peritoneum owing to the rupture of cystic lesions located on the superficial liver area.
Although intraperitoneal teratomas are rare, teratomas of the greater omentuma are seldom reported. A single case of omental teratoma with torsion in a 26-month-old girl is reported. The patient presented with abdominal pain and a palpable mass. Ultrasonography and CT of the abdomen showed a large cystic mass with a non homgenious solid component composed of fat and calcification. The lesion was surgically excised. Pathology revealed a mature omental teratoma. The hospital course was uneventful.
Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare and aggressive malignancy common in young male patient. Typical imaging features of DSRCT include multiple soft tissue masses in the peritoneal cavity, omentum, or mesentery without an organ of origin. This report presents a rare manifestation of DSRCT revealing a solitary large retroperitoneal mass with hepatic metastasis and malignant portal vein thrombosis in 70-year-old women together with the review of literature. The tumor showed a hemorrhagic and necrotic mass with peripheral portion of T2 hypo-intensity and delayed enhancement that indicated desmoplastic stroma with dense cellularity.
Yellow tails (Seriola quinqueradiata) were purchased from the Jakalchi fish market located in Busna and examined for anisakid larvae. The collected larvae were classified by their morphologicaltypes. Of the 16 yellow tails exmained, seven (43.8%) were infected with the larvae. Among 90 larvae, 81 were collected from the omentum and 9 from the muscle. Anisakids were classified into five larval types, anisakis type I (56 larvae in number, 62.2%), Contracaecum type A (8, 8.9%) and type D (7, 7.8%) and Contracaecum type C (19, 21.1%). The present study revealed that Anisakis type I was the most common among the five larval types in the yellow tails caught in the South sea of Korea peninsula.
At the Seoul first slaughter house, 2,964 heads of swine were examined for the infection and distribution of Cysticercus tenuicollis. The results were summarized as follows. 1. The Cysticercus tenuicollis were detected from 106 heads of swine and the infection rate were 3.58 percent. 2. Incidence at each province were 5.7% in Jeon-ra-puk Do, 4.4% in Chung-cheong-nam Do, 3.83% in Kyong-sang-nam Do, 3.57% in Jeon-ra-nam Do, 2.52% in Kang-won Do, 1.75% in Kyong-sang-puk Do, and Kyong-gi Do and Seoul City were not recognized. 3. The monthly variation of the infection of Cysticercus tenuicollis were not found nearly through a year. 4. The usual habitat of Cysticercus tenuicollis were recognized the omentum and liver, but unusually one case was found around the rectum.
A 73-year-old man, who, in an inebriated state, had slipped in a flowerbed and was wounded on the left flank, was transferred to Trauma Center, Gil Medical Center, Gachon University College of Medicine. Based on the chest and abdominopelvic computed tomography, he was diagnosed with multiple rib fractures and hemopneumothorax on the left hemithorax and was found to have a bony fragment in the spleen. He had not presented peritonitis and exsanguinous symptoms during the observation period. Seven days later, computed tomography of the abdomen showed suspected diaphragmatic injury and a retained foreign body in the spleen. On exploration by video assisted thoracoc surgery (VATS), a herniated omentum through the lacerated site of the diaphragm was observed. After omentectomy using Endo Gia, the foreign body in the spleen was observed through the lacerated site of the diaphragm. Traumatic diaphragm rupture with a foreign body, in the spleen, was successfully managed by video assisted thoracic surgery via the lacerated site of the diaphragm.
