  • In general, power demand is on an increasing trend as industries have made rapid strides. Power transformer is the most important equipment in substation for this reason. Transformer trobles go with blackout, expensive repair costs and huge economic losses. Therefore it is important to find the quick detection of incipient fault for the least losses. There have been gas, partial discharge, temperature, OLTC, fan and pump diagnosis for preventive techniques by present. Specially gas analysis has been adapted for a long time and proved as confident method. In this paper, we analysed the fault causes of used power transformer. The insulation faults was occupied 40% of inquired 152 faults from 1991 to 2000. This study presents the developed algorithm and expert system for finding abnormal status within transformer. We used the Element Expert tool developed Neuron DATA Inc.

  • It is a complex process to analyze power system voltage stability problems with all of the dynamics of a system, because a large power network system sophisticatedly consists of generators, lines, loads and so forth. So we considered the dynamics of loads so as to analyze voltage stability method- by carrying out an analysis of steady state voltage stability and dynamic voltage stability simultaneously. To perform a steady state voltage stability program in advance makes it possible to cut down on laborious calculations so that an analysis of dynamic voltage stability becomes concise. The validity and efficiency of the method presented in this paper were verified by applying the IEEE 14 bus system.

  • This paper proposes a method for solving running cost problem by minimizing switching reactive power compensation devices. An objective function was modeled by calculating the weighting value of cost, and a solution was derived using ILP. This paper suggests optimal coordinative control method between FACTS, Shunt Reactors, Capacitors and OLTC. Therefore, it is valuable for decision maker in determining order and capacity of devices which gaining a voltage stabilization. As a result, the objectives of voltage stabilization and cost minimization were achieved simultaneously. This realizes the economic efficiency of the system. We start by showing how to solve systems of linear equations using the language of pivots and tableaus. The effectiveness of this technique is demonstrated in modified PSS/E MIGUM 45 bus system. The simulation results show the effectiveness of this algorithm by comparing the outcome withseveral established methods.

  • The increasing of wind power penetration level presents challenges in classical optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) which is usually formulated as a deterministic optimization problem. This paper proposes a two-stage stochastic programming model for ORPD by considering the uncertainties of wind speed and load in a specified time interval. To avoid the excessive operation, the schedule of compensators will be determined in the first-stage while accounting for the costs of adjusting the compensators (CACs). Under uncertainty effects, on-load tap changer (OLTC) and generator in the second-stage will compensate the mismatch caused by the first-stage decision. The objective of the proposed model is to minimize the sum of CACs and the expected energy loss. The stochastic behavior is formulated by three-point estimate method (TPEM) to convert the stochastic programming into equivalent deterministic problem. A hybrid Genetic Algorithm-Interior Point Method is utilized to solve this large-scale mixed-integer nonlinear stochastic problem. Two case studies on IEEE 14-bus and IEEE 118-bus system are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a new algorithm of Integrated Volt/Var Control (IVVC) is proposed using Volt/Var control for the Distribution Automation System (DAS) based on the modeling of the distributed load and the distributed current. In the proposed, the load flow based on the modeling of the distributed load with Distributed Generation and the distributed current are estimated from constants of four terminals using the measurement of the current and power factor from a Feeder Remote Terminal Unit (FRTU). For Integrated Volt/Var Control (IVVC), the gradient method is applied to find optimal solution for tap and capacity control of OLTC (On-Load Tap Changers), SVR (Step Voltage Regulator), and SC (Shunt Condenser). What is more Volt/Var control method is proposed using moving the tie switch as well as IVVC algorithm using power utility control. In the case studies, the estimation and simulation network have been testified in Matlab Simulink.

  • This paper analyzes multiple active management (AM) techniques of active distribution network (ADN), and proposes an optimal coordination model of intermittent distributed generation (IDG) accommodation considering the timing characteristic of load and IDG. The objective of the model is to maximize the daily amount of IDG accommodation under the uncertainties of IDG and load. Various active management techniques such as IDG curtailment, on-load tap changer (OLTC) tap adjusting, voltage regulator (VR) tap adjusting, shunt capacitors compensation and so on are fully considered. Genetic algorithm and Primal-Dual Interior Point Method (PDIPM) is used for the model solving. Point estimate method is used to simulate the uncertainties. Different scenarios are selected for the IDG accommodation capability investigation under different active management schemes. Finally a modified IEEE 123 case is used to testify the proposed accommodation model, the results show that the active management can largely increase the IDG accommodation and penetration.

  • The partial discharge detecting method using the ultrasonic technique has been investigated to monitor the insulation ageing of a transformer. However, the result of the studies on the ultrasonic technique for detecting of partial discharge in the operating transformer is not enough yet to utilize. This paper presents the analysis of the ultrasonic signals due to the partial discharge in a model transformer and the corona in air at a shielded high voltage room. In addition, the ultrasonic signals due to the vibration from the core, operation of the cooling pump, the fan and the OLTC at the 345㎸ power transformer, were analyzed and corona noise from overhead transmission line in 345㎸ substation were measured to remove the electrical and mechanical noises from the transformer. Furthermore, ultrasonic signal due to the partial discharge in the 154㎸ power transformer with in $C_2$$H_2$ gas warning condition was measured. The inside of the transformer was examined with care. which confirms the existence of the partial discharge source.
