유처리제 방제 효용성 및 안전성 비교 연구 (A Study on the Effectiveness and Safety Comparison of Dispersants)

  • Using dispersants is known to be an effective solution to accelerate the natural dispersion and being an appropriate oil spill response strategy. By breaking up large oil chunks into small droplets, dispersants are generally intended to help reducing further oil exposures and slicks. Collecting property data of circulating crude oil in South Korea and understanding the interaction between crude oils and dispersions need to be preceded for the effective dispersant use. This paper provides an property analysis of three selected oils which have the same composition of spilt oils from the Herbei Spirit Incident and conducts an emulsification and toxicity experiment with selected domestic and foreign dispersants. Results will present a direction of future domestic dispersants' development which aimed at eco-friendly and safety.

온도 변수에 대한 유류의 휘발특성 및 탄화수소 화합물의 존재비에 관한 연구 (Evaporation Characteristics of Oil and Abundance Ratio of Hydrocarbon Compounds at Different Temperatures)

  • 해수에 유출된 유류는 대기와 해수와의 접촉을 통해 다양한 풍화 과정(증발, 확산, 분산, 유화, 용해, 산화, 침전 및 생물분해 등)을 통해 물리·화학적 변화와 함께 생물학적 분해과정을 겪는다. 본 연구에서는 여러 가지 풍화작용 중 가장 즉각적이고 빠르며 오염물질의 질량에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 인자라고 알려진 증발(evaporation)에 대한 영향을 확인해보고자 하였다. 휘발유, 등유, 경유를 대상으로 25 ℃(해수 연평균 온도)와 35℃(적도 부근 온도) 조건에서 유류의 휘발특성을 비교하였다. 이를 위해, 일정 기간마다 채취한 유류를 전처리하여 GC/MS 분석을 수행하고, 탄화수소의 변화량을 계산하여 비교하였다.

공간분석 기법을 이용한 만리포 유분의 시·공간 변동 패턴 분석 (A Spatio-Temporal Variation Pattern of Oiling Status Using Spatial Analysis in Mallipo Beach of Korea)

  • 만리포는 2007년 12월 허베이 스피리트호 유류유출 사고로 유류오염 피해를 입은 대표적인 해변이다. 본 연구는 만리포 전체 영역과 5개로 분할된 영역을 대상으로 유분(TPH: Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon)의 시 공간적 변화 패턴에 대해 두 계절(동계와 하계)의 차이를 비교하고자 한다. 만리포 전체 영역에서 4년간 시간에 따른 유분농도의 감소율은 동계가 하계보다 약 두 배 크게 나타났다. 유분농도의 가중공간중심(weighted mean center)과 가중표준거리(weighted standard distance)를 이용한 유분분포의 공간적 변화 패턴 분석 결과, 동계에는 유분이 만리포의 남서 해변으로 군집된 패턴을 보인 반면, 하계에는 전 영역으로 분산된 패턴을 보였다. 만리포 내 분할 영역에서 유분의 시간적 변동은 동계에 모든 영역에서 농도가 지속적으로 감소한 반면, 하계에는 2009년 이후 남서 해변을 제외한 모든 영역에서 농도 변화를 보이지 않았다. 따라서 유류오염의 진행 상황을 평가하고 예측하기 위해서는 동계와 하계와 같이 시기를 구분하여 공간분석 기법을 이용한 유분의 시 공간 변동 패턴 분석이 필요하다. 또한, 지역적으로 불균등한 유분분포의 시간적 변동 패턴을 해석하기 위해서는 전체 해변에서 보다는 공간분할을 통한 지역 규모에서의 시계열적 분석이 유용하다.

Effectiveness of Bioremediation on Oil-Contaminated Sand in Intertidal Zone

  • Bioremediation technologies were applied to experimental microcosms, simulating an oil spill in a lower intertidal area. Three treatments (oil only, oil plus nutrients, and oil plus nutrients and microbial inocula) were applied, and each microcosm was repeatedly filled and eluted with seawater every 12 h to simulate tidal cycles. To minimize washing-out of the inoculum by the tidal cycles, microbial cells were primarily immobilized on diatomaceous earth before they were applied to the oiled sand. Oil degradation was monitored by gravimetric measurements, thin layer chromatography/flame ionization detector (TLC/FID) analysis, and gas chromatography (GC) analysis, and the loss of oil content was normalized to sand mass or nor-hopane. When the data were normalized to sand mass, no consistent differences were detected between nutrient-amended and nutrient/inoculum-amended microcosms, although both differed from the oil-only microcosm in respect of oil removal rate by a factor of 4 to 14. However, the data relative to nor-hopane showed a significant treatment difference between the nutrient-amended and nutrient/inoculum-treated microcosms, especially in the early phase of the treatment. The accelerating effect of inoculum treatment has hardly been reported in studies of oil bioremediation in the Tower intertidal area. The inoculum immobilized on diatomaceous earth seemed to be a very effective formulation for retaining microbial cells in association with the sand. Results of this study also suggest that interpretation of the effectiveness of bioremediation could be dependent on the selection of monitoring methods, and consequently the application of various analytical methods in combination could be a solution to overcome the limitations of oil bioremediation monitoring.

입자영상유속계에 의한 기포붐의 Plume 거동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Plume Movement Characteristics of Bubble Boom by PIV)

  • Bubble boom may be a good alternative for the prevention of oil spill pollution due to its easy deployment and clean post-process tasks. The present work is focused on the experimental investigation of air bubble movement for the bubble boom by visualization and quantitative PIV measurements. Bubble plume was generated by adjusting the pressure of pressure vessel ranging 6.7 kpa to 14.7 kpa. The results showed at lower inlet velocity and higher supply air flow rate that bubble boom maintained its containing capability reasonably well up to the maximum containing limit.

DAF와 펜톤 산화 공정을 이용한 유류 오염 지하수 처리 (Treatment of Oil Contaminated Groundwater Using DAF and Fenton Oxidation Process)

  • 에너지원 및 다양한 화학제품의 원료로 유류의 소비량이 증가함에 따라 유류의 유출사고가 빈번하게 발생하고 있다. 유류오염 지하수 처리를 위해 용존공기부상법이 사용되어지고 있으나 용해성 기름을 효과적으로 제거하지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 지하수내 주오염원인 자유상 유류와 친수성(oil-in water) 또는 친유성 에멜젼(water-in oil) 상태의 기름과 용해성 기름을 효과적으로 저감하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 용존공기부상법에 펜톤 산화 공법을 사용하여 효과적인 유류 오염 지하수 처리를 연구하였다. 펜톤 실험 결과 TPH(Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon) 제거를 위한 최적 조건은 pH 3, $H_2O_2$ 주입농도 25mM과 $Fe^{2+}$ 주입농도 25mM으로 나타났다. DAF와 펜톤 산화 실험을 수행한 결과 7분내에 TPH(Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon)와 COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand) 농도가 각각 1.5mg/L와 40.0mg/L 이하로 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 펜톤 산화 반응으로 인하여 슬러지 농도가 약 5배 가량 증가하여 후단에 침전조를 설치하는 것이 바람직하다.

생물정화용 제품의 유류분해능 비교 (Effects of Bioremediation Products on the Oil Degradability)

  • 최근 유류에 오염된 환경을 회복시키기 위하여 생물정화 방법이 널리 이용되고 있다. 따라서 유류오염 환경을 처리하기 위한 생물정화용 생물제제가 보편화되면서 외국으로부터 많은 제품이 국내로 유입되고 있다. 그러나 국내에는 이와 같은 제품의 규격기준이나 표준 실험방법이 체계화되어 있지 않고 또한 효용성에 대한 실제 실험결과가 없는 상태이다. 그러므로 본 실험에서는 일부 유류처리용 생물제제 5종을 대상으로 유류분해율에 대한 실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과 대부분의 제품들은 함유된 화학유분산제에 의해 유류분산능을 나타내었고 유류분해율은 매우 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 일부제품(D)의 경우에는 해수에 분포되어 있는 토착 유류분해세균의 유류분해도를 오히려 저해하는 결과를 나타내었다. 이와 같은 실험의 결과로 미루어 향후 생물정화용 제제의 규격기준 및 표준 실험방법을 국내에도 확립할 필요가 있고, 그러므로서 효율적인 생물정화 기술방법 사용이 활성화될 수 있을 것이다.

오일펜스의 tip 형상이 후류유동에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Effect of tip configuration of an oil fence on wake structure behind the fence)

  • The flow structures of turbulent shear layer behind oil fences with different tip configurations were investigated experimentally using flow visualization and PIV velocity field measurement. An oil fence was installed in a circulating water channel and the flow structure around the fence tip was mainly analyzed in this experiment. The four tip configurations tested in this experiment are knife edge; semi-circle edge, circular edge and rectangular edge. The 300 instantaneous velocity fields were measured using the single-frame PIV system and they were ensemble averaged to give the mean velocity field and spatial distribution of turbulent statistics. Free stream velocity was fixed at 10ms/sec and the corresponding Reynolds number based on the fence height was Re=4000. As a result, for the oil fence with rectangular edge, the streamwise velocity component was decreased. On the other hand it was increased for the oil fence with circular edge. For all four fences tested in this study, general flow pattern of the lower shear layer is analogous but the upper layer shows difference depending on the tip configurations. The oil fence with circular edge has more diffusive upper shear layer than that of the others. The shear layer of the oil fence with rectangular edge has relatively thin thickness. The oil fence with circular edge was found to be proper shape for tandem fence.

오일 펜스 Anchor의 파주력 (The Holding Power of the Oil Boom Anchor)

  • An oil boom was set up in order to contain diffused oil from spills and for the retrenchment of damage caused by oil Pollution. Therefore, the oil boom anchor needed proper holding power to endure high resistance from flowing streams and to secure the oil boom around the spill, and must dredge directly into the seabed when it is dropped and block oil outflow immediately. This study investigated the holding power of the danforth anchor and the coastal fishing vessel anchor used for oil booms in the KMPRC (Korea Marine Pollution Response Corporation). For each type, a 30 kg and 20 kg anchor were used. The holding power of the danforth anchors were measured by dropping both weights 10 times. However the coastal fishing vessel anchors were dropped only 5 times each, because no substantial differences were found between drops. In the results of the danforth anchors, an anchor awoke occurred in 2 drops of the 30 kg anchor and in 4 drops of the 20 kg anchor, wherein there was no holding power to be measured. With exception to the anchor awoke cases, the maximum holding power of the danforth 30 kg and 20 kg anchors was 250-520 kg and 123-233 kg, respectively. In the case of the coastal fishing vessel anchors of 30 kg and 20 kg, throughout the experiment, there was no occurrence of an anchor awoke. For the 30 kg and 20 kg anchors, the maximum holding power was measured to be 209-230 kg and 155-170 kg, respectively. Therefore, the holding power of the coastal fishing vessel anchor was shown to be much poorer than that of the danforth anchor. However, the holding power of the danforth anchor was very unstable. Due to the occurrences of anchor awoke, there was no holding power and the measurement value of maximum holding power showed too much variation among the drop tests. Also, after the maximum holding power was achieved, anchor awoke occurred easily. In the case of the coastal fishing vessel anchor was much more stabile, because there was no anchor awoke and no instance where holding power failed. Also the maximum holding power was reached quickly and almost no variation occurred among the drop tests.

해양유류오염 방제를 위한 생물유화제 생산세균의 분리 및 특성 (Isolation and Characterization of a Bioemulsifier-Producing Bacterium for Marine Oil Spill Bioremediation)

  • Microorganisms producing bioemulslfiler were isolated from the sea water In Pusan coastal area. The isolated strain which had the highest emulsification activity and stability was identified as the genus Achetobacter from the results of morphological. cultural and biochemical tests and named Achetobacter sp. EL-C6 for convenience. The compositions of optimum medium for emulsification of crude oil by Acinetobacter sp. EL-C6 were crude oil 2.0%, NH4NO3 0.2%, $K_2HPO_4$ 0.01%, $MgSO_4$.$7H_2O$ 1.o%, $CaCl_2$.$2H_2O$ 0.1% and NaCl 3.0% at initial pH 7.5 and 3$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The cultivation for emulsification of crude ell was carried out in 500m1 shaking flask containing 100m1 of the optimum medium at 3$0^{\circ}C$. The highest emulsification was observed after 5 days. The utilization on the various hydrocarbon of the Achetobacter sp. EL-C6 showed that utilization of n-alkane compounds were better than that of aromatic compounds. Among the petroleum compounds, crude ell was best utilized by the Achetobacter sp. EL-C6.
