  • A gerotor is suitable for miniature manufacturing because it has high discharge per 1 cycle and a simple structure, while also being widely used for lubrication oil of engines and as a hydraulic source of automatic transmission. In the automobile industry, improvements in fuel efficiency and noise reduction have recently come to the fore. It has also been necessary to continuously improve the flow rate and noise of internal gear pumps for better fuel efficiency through optimal gerotor and port shape design. In this study, to develop an optimal gerotor with a new lobe shape, 2-ellipses-combined, the equation of the lobe shape was derived, and CFD analysis results were compared for 2-ellipses with those of the previous gerotors (3-ellipses and ellipse1-involuteellipse2). A performance test for the oil pump with the optimal rotor (2-ellipses) was carried out and showed good agreement with the results obtained from CFD analysis.

  • A gerotor is suitable for miniature manufacturing because it has a high discharge per cycle and a simple structure, while also being widely used as lubrication oil of engines and the hydraulic source of automatic transmission. In the automobile industry, it has been necessary to continuously improve the flow rate and noise of internal gear pumps for better fuel efficiency through optimal gerotor design. In this study, to obtain an optimal gerotor with an ellipse-elliptical involute-ellipse combined lobe shape, an automatic program was developed for calculating performance parameters and drawing a gerotor profile. An oil pump was assembled with the optimal gerotor together with the port used at the actual field and CFD analysis was performed on this assembly using Ansys-CFX. A performance test for the oil pump was carried out and showed good agreement with the results obtained from the theoretical analysis and the CFD analysis.

  • The temperature of vertical pump bearing metal in the pumped storage power plant has been high enough to shutdown the unit. Attempts such as decreasing the oil supply temperature, increasing the bearing oil gap etc. were performed to resolve the problem, but the issue was not resolved. Finally, the high bearing metal temperature was corrected by adjusting the bearing preload. The preload is formed by the oil wedge between the journal surface and bearing pad surface and the degree of preload is determined by the machined radial clearance, assembled radial clearance, rotor journal diameter etc. This paper focuses on the analysis of the preload depending on the bearing parameters and the result of the modification of the bearing following the analysis. The bearing metal temperature dropped as much as $20^{\circ}C$ which was similar as expected by software calculation. But the shaft vibration could increase when the assembled radial clearance is excessive. So, the adjustment of the bearing preload for the tilting pad type journal bearing should be carefully performed.

  • This article presents the reduction of vibration generated by an automobile fuel pump. In order to analyze the vibration of the fuel pump, a simplified dynamic model is established, which is composed of a rigid rotor and a equivalent springs. The equivalent stiffnesses of the upper and lower assemblies are evaluated by the comparison of modal testing results and the finite element analysis. The stiffness for the oil film of the journal bearing is extracted by using Reynold's equation. In addition, the time responses for the vibration of the fuel pump are computed by using a commercial multi-body dynamics software, RecurDyn. Based on these results, some design suggestions are proposed to reduce the vibration of an automobile fuel pump.

  • It is very important to obtain a out-of season production in horticultural greenhouses corresponding with higher crop prices. A ground source heat pump system has been highly spotlighed as an energy efficient heating system for the greenhouse. This paper investigated the operating cost of the ground source heat pump system with the variation of generating temperature and designing methods for heating system of the greenhouse. Even though the COP of the ground source heat pump system decreased with an increment of generating temperature in heating mode, the operating cost could be reduced. By adopting the high temperature heat pump system and heat storage tank, it could be achieved to save energy and reduce the operating time of auxiliary oil heating system for producing good plant-growth in the greenhouse.

  • Recently. we interested in renewable energy due to cost increase of the crude oil, etc. In this study solar assisted hybrid heat pump system that uses the solar heat and air as heat source analyzed by experimentally.'rho system could runs at dual mode. One is thermal storage mode of solar energy at day time and the other is heat pump mode with low temperature air as heat source at night time. In case of setting temperature over the limited range. high temperature water heated at the solar energy collecting tubes supplied to the storage tank. As results. it is founded that the heat pump performance Is higher than general heat pump which using the only air as a heat source. The developed system could be used as main healing equipment for the panel heating for the residential house.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the performance of a two-stage compression heat pump system for district heating. The experimental setup of heat pump consists of compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion device, intercooler, flash tank, oil separator and accumulator. The experimental evaluations on the two-stage compression cycle were carried out under various operating conditions which were heat source temperature, the degree of compressor inlet superheat, and intermediate pressure. The temperature ranges of unutilized energy as the heat source were used in the test conditions. As the heat source temperature increased from $10^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$, the COP and heating capacity of the heat pump system increased by 22.6% and 45.8%, respectively. The performance of the two-stage heat pump system increased by 5.2% with the variation of the intermediate pressure in the same heat source temperature conditions.

  • Due to reinforcement of international environment regulation and high oil prices, interest in renewable energy is growing. Countries participating in UNFCCC are continuously putting efforts in reducing greenhouse gas after enforcing Kyoto Protocol into effect on Feb, 2005. Energy used in buildings, which relies heavily on fossil fuel accounts for about 24% of total energy consumption. In this study, air, geothermal and water source heat pump systems for an 322 $m^2$ auditorium in an office building is simulated using TRNSYS version 17 for comparing energy consumptions. The results show that energy consumptions of air, geothermal and water source heat pumps are 14,485, 10,249, and 10,405 kWh, respectively. Annual equal payments which consider both initial and running costs become 5,734,521, 6,403,257 and 5,596,058 Won. Thus, water source heat pump is the best economical choice.

  • The objective of this study was to examine whether a gerotor pump used in a transmission could be converted into an electric vehicle thermal management system pump using a virtual design environment. To achieve this objective, we first built an environment that could analyze the performance of a gerotor pump in heat transfer fluid. Flow rate, pressure, and volumetric efficiency were then analyzed when using heat transfer fluid in a gerotor pump. Finally, how large the displacement volume of the pump should be designed when using a heat transfer fluid other than oil was determined. Based on results of this study, it is expected that gerotor pumps will be applied to new business fields such as electric vehicle cooling systems.
