It has been the most progressive interruption technique to use the ablation gas from the surface of PTFE nozzle driven by arc plasma during switching process in $SF_6$ gas circuit breakers. This advanced interruption technique can reduce the required mechanical energy to compress and blow the gas for extinguishing the arc plasma between the electrodes due to using the ablation effect instead. In order to consider the phenomena during calculation of switching process, it is required to confirm the principles of ablation from PTFE nozzle as well as of arc plasma during switching process. In this study, we have calculated the switching process considered the ablation of PTFE nozzle driven by arc plasma using multidisciplinary simulation technique and compared the results with the data without the ablation effect. More $50\%$ difference of pressure rise inside expansion chamber has been found from the results and it should be indispensable for this type of computational work to consider and include the ablation effect of PTFE nozzle. Further study on turbulence and radiation will be followed.
The design of industrial arc plasma systems is still largely based on trial and error although the situation is rapidly improving because of the available computational power at a cost which is still fast coming down. The desire to predict the behavior of arc plasma system, thus reducing the development cost, has been the motivation of arc research. To interrupt fault current, the most enormous duty of a circuit breaker, is achieved by separating two contacts in a interruption medium, $SF_{6}$ gas or air etc., and arc plasma is inevitably established between the contacts. The arc must be controlled and interrupted at an appropriate current zero. In order to analyze arc behavior in $SF_{6}$ gas circuit breakers, a numerical calculation method combined with flow field and electromagnetic field has been developed. The method has been applied to model arc generated in the Aachen nozzle and compared the results with the experimental results. Next, we have simulated the unsteady flow characteristics to be induced by arcing of AC cycle, and conformed that the method can predict arc behavior in account of thermal transport to $SF_{6}$ gas around the arc, such as increase of arc voltage near current zero and dependency of arc radius on arc current to maintain constant arc current density.

A theoretical investigation for optimization of conduction-cooled Peltier current leads is undertaken. A Pottier current lead (PCL) is composed of a thermoelectric element (TE), a metallic lead and a high Tc superconductor (HTS) lead in the order of decreasing thermoelectric tempera ture. Mathematical expression for the minimum heat flow per unit current crossing the TE metal interface and that flowing from the metal lead to the joint of the metal and the HTS leads are obtained. It is shown that the temperature at the TE-metal interface possesses a unique optimal value that minimizes the heat flow to the joint and that this optimal value depends on the material properties of the 73 and the metallic lead but not the joint temperature nor electric current. It is also shown that there exists a unique optimal value for the joint temperature between the metal and the HTS leads that minimizes the sum of the power dissipated by ohmic heating in current leads and the refrigerator power consumed to cool the lead, for a given length of the HTS.
Conductive SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites were produced by subjecting a 40:60 (vol%) mixture of zirconium diboride (ZrB2) powder and ${\beta}$-silicon carbide (SiC) matrix to spark plasma sintering (SPS). Sintering was carried out for 5 min in an argon atmosphere at a uniaxial pressure and temperature of 50 MPa and $1500^{\circ}C$, respectively. The composite sintered at a heating speed of $25^{\circ}C$/min and an on/off pulse sequence of 12:2 was denoted as SZ12L. Composites SZ12H, SZ48H, and SZ10H were obtained by sintering at a heating speed of $100^{\circ}C$/min and at on/off pulse sequences of 12:2, 48:8, and 10:9, respectively. The physical, electrical, and mechanical properties of the SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites were examined and thermal image analysis of the composites was performed. The apparent porosities of SZ12L, SZ12H, SZ48H, and SZ10H were 13.35%, 0.60%, 12.28%, and 9.75%, respectively. At room temperature, SZ12L had the lowest flexural strength (286.90 MPa), whereas SZ12H had the highest flexural strength (1011.34 MPa). Between room temperature and $500^{\circ}C$, the SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites had a positive temperature coefficient of resistance (PTCR) and linear V-I characteristics. SZ12H had the lowest PTCR and highest electrical resistivity among all the composites. The optimum SPS conditions for the production of energy-friendly SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites are as follows: 1) an argon atmosphere, 2) a constant pressure of 50 MPa throughout the sintering process, 3) an on/off pulse sequence of 12:2 (pulse duration: 2.78 ms), and 4) a final sintering temperature of $1500^{\circ}C$ at a speed of $100^{\circ}C$/min and sintering for 5 min at $1500^{\circ}C$.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the patent application trend in the processing technology for medicinal herbs. Recently, in processing technology for medicinal herbs, experimental researches have frequently been published through papers in journals. However, the research results about the patent area were fewer than the others. We tried to analyze the patent application trend in nonthermal processing technologies for medicinal herbs by country as Korea, Japan, U.S.A. and Europe. The detailed technologies consisted of pulsed electric field, oscillatory magnetic field, intense pulsed light, ultrasonification, high hydrostatic pressure, microwave, radiation, Ohmic heating, and supercritical extraction. As a result we found that patents of nonthermal processing technologies has been growing steadily in quantity from 1980s and growing quickly since 2000s. The number of patent in Korea is larger than others as making up 70% in that whole. The number of patent in ultrasonification field was larger than others in portfolio analysis. Patent application trend in nonthermal processing technologies for ingestion occupies high share compared to other usage applications. In conclusion, patent trends of nonthermal processing technologies for medicinal herbs belong to the period in the development.
Electrical conduction phenomena of $C_{22}$-quinolium(TCNQ) Langmuir- Blodgett(LB) films are reported through a study of current-voltage(I-V) characteristics along a perpendicular direction. The I-V characteristics were investigated by applying a step or a pulse voltage to the specimen as well as changing temperatures in the range of 20-250[.deg. C] It show an ohmic behavior in low-electric field, and a nonohmic behavior in high-electric field. This nonohmic behavior has been interpreted in terms of a conduction mechanism of space-charge limited current and Schottky effect. When the electric field is near the strength of 10$_{6}$ V/cm, there occur anomalous phenomena similar to breakdown. When step or pulse voltage is applied, the breakdown voltage shifts to the higher one as the step or pulse time width becomes shorter. To see the influence of temperature, current was measured as a function of temperature under the several bias voltages, which are lower than that of breakdown. It shows that the current increases to about 103 times near 60-70[.deg. C], and remains constant for a while up to around 150[.deg. C] and then suddenly drops. We have also performed a DSC(differential scanning calorimetry) measurement with $C_{22}$-quinolium(TCNQ) powder in the range of 30-300[.deg. C]. These results imply that the anomalous phenomena occuring in the high electric field are caused by the electrical and internal thermal effect such as a joule heating.ating.
To separate and concentrate mucilage from yam(Dioscorea batatas DECNE), yam was dried, microparticulated using impact mill and air-classified at different air classifying wheel speed(ACWS) in classifier. As ACWS increased from 5,000 rpm to 22,500 rpm, the contents of dietary fiber, protein and lipid of air classified microparticles(ACM) increased remarkably. Especially the ACM with ACWS over 15,000 rpm showed 36.41% dietary fiber and 16.66% protein. The dietary fiber and protein components were concentrated to $2.5{\sim}9.0$ times as compared with whole yam powder. Concomitantly the non-fibrous carbohydrate decreased from 88.31% to 16.84. The damaged starch(%), WSI and WAI of ACM of ACWS over 15,000 rpm were $1.5{\sim}3.0$ times higher than those of ACM under ACWS 15,000 rpm. The apparent viscosity of ACM was 0.0800 Pa s over ACWS 15,000 rpm and 0.0080 Pa s under ACWS 15,000 rpm. Judging from viscosity of ACM, the mucilage component of yam was concentrated to 10 times. In conclusion, the optimum process to separate and concentrate the mucilage from yam consisted of the microparticulation to $5{\sim}30{\mu}m$ and the air-classification at ACWS over 15,000 rpm.
