PROTO-MODEL OF AN INFRARED WIDE-FIELD OFF-AXIS TELESCOPE

  • We develop a proto-model of an off-axis reflective telescope for infrared wide-field observations based on the design of Schwarzschild-Chang type telescope. With only two mirrors, this design achieves an entrance pupil diameter of 50 mm and an effective focal length of 100 mm. We can apply this design to a mid-infrared telescope with a field of view of $8^{\circ}{\times}8^{\circ}$. In spite of the substantial advantages of off-axis telescopes in the infrared compared to refractive or on-axis reflective telescopes, it is known to be difficult to align the mirrors in off-axis systems because of their asymmetric structures. Off-axis mirrors of our telescope are manufactured at the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI). We analyze the fabricated mirror surfaces by fitting polynomial functions to the measured data. We accomplish alignment of this two-mirror off-axis system using a ray tracing method. A simple imaging test is performed to compare a pinhole image with a simulated prediction.

LP가스용 차단기능형 수평식 용기밸브에 대한 설계연구 (Design Study of Automatic Cut-off Horizontal Valve for a LPG Cylinder)

  • 본 연구에서는 기존의 차단기능형 수직식 용기밸브와 새로이 개발된 수평식 용기밸브의 몸체전고와 중량에 대한 설계 데이터를 고찰하였다. 차단기능형 수평식 용기밸브의 전고는 기존의 차단기능형 수직식 용기밸브에 비해 41~42%나 획기적으로 줄어들었다. 또한, 수평식 밸브의 몸체 무게는 기존의 차단기능형 수직식 밸브에 비해 29~40%나 줄어든 결과를 얻었다. 이러한 결과는 단지 기존의 수직식 밸브에서 밸브의 여러 가지 구성요소를 수평식으로 배열을 바꾼 구조변경 설계를 통해 확보한 것이다.

  • 조리개가 제 2거울에 있는 inverse Cassegrain 광학계에서 비축시야를 사용하면, 이 2반사경계는 넓은 시야를 가지는 대물광학계로 사용할 수 있다. 하지만 이 전통적인 회전대칭 구조의 반사경계는 설계변수의 수가 너무 적기 때문에 수차보정에 한계가 있다. 이 연구에서는 조리개와 제 2거울을 별도로 횡이동시켜 성능을 개선한 새로운 2반사 광학계를 설계하였다. 새로운 설계변수를 사용하여 5차 코마와 비점수차에 대한 보정이 개선되었으며, 시야 전체에서 보다 좋은 수차균형을 얻을 수 있었다. 새로 설계된 비축시야 2반사경계는 회전대칭 구조의 통상적인 2반사경계와 비교하여 spot의 크기가 1/2 수준으로 줄어들었으며, 개선의 효과가 시야 전체에 고르게 나타나고 있다.

  • Recently, various methods have been developed to improve the performance of gas turbines for combined cycle power plants. This paper especially focused on the gas turbine with a reheat process. The purpose of this study is to analyze performance characteristics of a reheat-cycle gas turbine on both a design point and off-design operations. Results of the parametric study of this model show how operating and design parameters influence on the performance of the gas turbine. Moreover, possibilities for the analysis of off-design performance based on a self-generated compressor performance characteristic map are presented.

  • In this paper the effect of bump compliance, load, and the number of pad on the lift-off speed is studied. When the load is greater and bump compliance lower, the shaft is lifted off at higher rotating speed. And when the load is applied near the center of pad, lift-off speed is lower. When the number of pad increases, the lift-off speed is higher. The lift-off characteristics can be used to lengthen the life time of the coating and design the rotating machinery supported by bump bearings.

  • 본 논문에서는 패턴인식의 문제에서 배경이 물체에 겹치지 않는 영상일 때 잡음에 대한 안정성, 피크의 크기와 광효율의 조건에 대한 trade-off를 통해 필터를 설계하는 방법에 대해 언급한다. 필터를 설계하기위해 신호대 잡음비, 출력의 최대값대 출력에너지비, 광효율의 세가지 다른 조건을 사용한다. 필터의 성능을 시험하기 위해 여러 형태의 잡음과 필터 계수에 대해 컴퓨터 모의실험을 실시한다. 배경이 물체에 겹치지 않는 영상에 대해 기존의 필터보다 우수한 성능을 얻을 수 있다.

  • We developed a novel PVA pixel design for mobile application with excellent off-axis image quality and optical performance by introducing Active Level Shift technology and optimizing pixel structure. Our new pixel design enables better off-axis image quality without sacrificing other optical properties compared with a conventional mPVA structure.

  • The Republic of Korea Navy is reviewing the development of a ship capable of operating STOVL (Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing) aircraft. However, the Navy has no experience in operating or building such ships, so engineering means are needed to review the design and confirm the operating concept at the concept and basic design stages. In this paper, the authors introduce the results of developing a STOVL aircraft take-off and landing simulation system that reflects the ship's seaworthiness characteristics and major design dimensions based on engineering-based modeling and simulation technology in response to the Navy's needs. The simulation system was developed in which the engineering characteristics of the ship were estimated based on the basic design, and the motion characteristics of the aircraft were implemented by developing equations of motion for a general STOVL. The system was developed to simulate naval aircraft's take-off and landing process and deck movement situation and to confirm the ship operation scenario. By using this simulation system, the Navy will be able to examine not only the ship's structural characteristics at the basic design stage but also the basic conditions for special operational requirements such as take-off and landing.

Study on the Off-design Performance on a Plug Nozzle with Variable Throat Area

  • In the present study were examined numerically and experimentally the off-design performance characteristics on an axisymmetric plug nozzle with variable throat area. In this nozzle concept, its throat area can be changed by translating the plug into the axial direction. First, a mixed-expansion plug nozzle, in which two expansion parts are arranged both inside and outside, was designed by means of the method of characteristics. Second, the CFD analysis was verified by the cold-flow wind tunnel test. Third, its performance characteristics were evaluated over a wide range of pressure ratio from half to double throat area through the design point, using the CFD code verified by the wind tunnel tests. It was made clear from the study that not so critical thrust efficiency losses were found and the maximum thrust efficiency loss was at most approximately 5 % under off-design conditions without external flow. This result shows that a plug nozzle can give the altitude compensation even under off-design geometry operations. However, shock waves were observed in the inner expansion part under the doubled throat area operation and thus some thermal problems may be caused on the plug surface. Furthermore, collapse of cell structure on the plug surface was observed with external flow (around Mach number 2.0) as it became lower pressure ratio below the design point and the fact may result in big efficiency loss regardless of geometrical configuration.

탈설계 조건에서 원심압축기의 미끄럼 계수 모델들의 평가 (Assessment of Slip Factor Models for Centrifugal Compressor at Off-Design Condition)

  • A slip factor is defined as an empirical factor, which should be multiplied to theoretical energy transfer to estimate real work input of a centrifugal compressor. During the last century, researchers have tried to develop simple empirical models to predict the slip factor. However most of these models have been developed based only on design point data. Furthermore flow is assumed inviscid. As a result, these models often fail to predict the correct slip factor at off-design condition. In this study, various models for the slip factor were analysed and compared with experimental and numerical data at off-design conditions. As a result of this study, Wiesner's and Paeng and Chung's models are shown to be applicable for radial impeller, but all the models are found to be inappropriate for backswept impellers.
