In this paper we present a system that classifies brain MR images by using 2 level decision tree learning. There are two kinds of information that can be obtained from images. One is the low-level features such as size, color, texture, and contour that can be acquired directly from the raw images, and the other is the high-level features such as existence of certain object, spatial relations between different parts that must be obtained through the interpretation of segmented images. Learning and classification should be performed based on the high-level features to classify images according to their semantic meaning. The proposed system applies decision tree learning to each level separately, and the high-level features are synthesized from the results of low-level classification. The experimental results with a set of brain MR images with tumor are discussed. Several experimental results that show the effectiveness of the proposed system are also presented.

This paper reports an experimental result on optimizing dissimilarity-based classification(DBC) by simultaneously using a dynamic time warping(DTW) and a multiple fusion strategy(MFS). DBC is a way of defining classifiers among classes; they are not based on the feature measurements of individual samples, but rather on a suitable dissimilarity measure among the samples. In DTW, the dissimilarity is measured in two steps: first, we adjust the object samples by finding the best warping path with a correlation coefficient-based DTW technique. We then compute the dissimilarity distance between the adjusted objects with conventional measures. In MFS, fusion strategies are repeatedly used in generating dissimilarity matrices as well as in designing classifiers: we first combine the dissimilarity matrices obtained with the DTW technique to a new matrix. After training some base classifiers in the new matrix, we again combine the results of the base classifiers. Our experimental results for well-known benchmark databases demonstrate that the proposed mechanism achieves further improved results in terms of classification accuracy compared with the previous approaches. From this consideration, the method could also be applied to other high-dimensional tasks, such as multimedia information retrieval.

X-ray cross-sectional image-based inspection technique is one of the most useful methods to inspect the brazing joints of heat exchanger. Through X-ray cross-sectional image acquisition, image processing, and defect inspection, the defects of brazing joints can be detected. This paper presents a method to judge the type of detected defects automatically, and to display them three-dimensionally. The defect type is classified as unconnected defect, void, and so on, based on location, size, and shape information of defect. Three-dimensional display which is realized using OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) will be helpful to understand the overall situation including location, size, shape of the defects in a test object.

The construction industry has the highest occupational fatality and injury rates related to accidents of any industry. Accordingly, safety managers closely monitor to prevent accidents in real-time by installing surveillance cameras at construction sites. However, due to human cognitive ability limitations, it is impossible to monitor many videos simultaneously, and the fatigue of the person monitoring surveillance cameras is also very high. Thus, to help safety managers monitor work and reduce the occupational accident rate, a study on object recognition in construction sites was conducted through surveillance cameras. In this study, we applied to the instance segmentation to identify the classification and location of objects and extract the size and shape of objects in construction sites. This research considers ways in which deep learning-based computer vision technology can be applied to safety management on a construction site.

Deep learning models require high computing power due to a substantial amount of computation. It is difficult to use them in devices with limited computing environments, such as coastal surveillance equipments. In this study, a lightweight model is constructed by analyzing the weight changes of the convolutional layers during the training process based on MobileNet and then pruning the layers that affects the model less. The performance comparison results show that the lightweight model maintains performance while reducing computational load, parameters, model size, and data processing speed. As a result of this study, an effective pruning method for constructing lightweight deep learning models and the possibility of using equipment resources efficiently through lightweight models in limited computing environments such as coastal surveillance equipments are presented.
Trajectory data are ubiquitous in the real world. Recent progress on satellite, sensor, RFID, video, and wireless technologies has made it possible to systematically track object movements and collect huge amounts of trajectory data. Accordingly, there is an ever-increasing interest in performing data analysis over trajectory data. In this paper, we develop a data mining tool for massive trajectory data. This mining tool supports three operations, clustering, classification, and outlier detection, which are the most widely used ones. Trajectory clustering discovers common movement patterns, trajectory classification predicts the class labels of moving objects based on their trajectories, and trajectory outlier detection finds trajectories that are grossly different from or inconsistent with the remaining set of trajectories. The primary advantage of the mining tool is to take advantage of the information of partial trajectories in the process of data mining. The effectiveness of the mining tool is shown using various real trajectory data sets. We believe that we have provided practical software for trajectory data mining which can be used in many real applications.

The structure of the machinery industry due to the 4th industrial revolution is changing from precision and durability to intelligent and smart machinery through sensing and interconnection(IoT). There is a growing need for research on prognostics and health management(PHM) that can prevent abnormalities in processing machines and accurately predict and diagnose conditions. PHM is a technology that monitors the condition of a mechanical system, diagnoses signs of failure, and predicts the remaining life of the object. In this study, the vibration generated during machining is measured and a classification algorithm for normal and fault signals is developed. Arbitrary fault signal is collected by changing the conditions of un stable supply cutting oil and fixing jig. The signal processing is performed to apply the measured signal to the learning model. The sampling rate is changed for high speed operation and performed machine learning using raw signal without FFT. The fault classification algorithm for 1D convolution neural network composed of 2 convolution layers is developed.

Detection and classification of steel surface defects are critical for product quality control in the steel industry. However, due to its low accuracy and slow speed, the traditional approach cannot be effectively used in a production line. The current, widely used algorithm (based on deep learning) has an accuracy problem, and there are still rooms for development. This paper proposes a method of steel surface defect detection combining EfficientNetV2 for image classification and YOLOv5 as an object detector. Shorter training time and high accuracy are advantages of this model. Firstly, the image input into EfficientNetV2 model classifies defect classes and predicts probability of having defects. If the probability of having a defect is less than 0.25, the algorithm directly recognizes that the sample has no defects. Otherwise, the samples are further input into YOLOv5 to accomplish the defect detection process on the metal surface. Experiments show that proposed model has good performance on the NEU dataset with an accuracy of 98.3%. Simultaneously, the average training speed is shorter than other models.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a deep learning-based personal protective equipment detection model for disaster prevention at construction sites, and to apply it to actual construction sites and to analyze the results. Method: In the method of conducting this study, the dataset on the real environment was constructed and the developed personal protective equipment(PPE) detection model was applied. The PPE detection model mainly consists of worker detection and PPE classification model. The worker detection model uses a deep learning-based algorithm to build a dataset obtained from the actual field to learn and detect workers, and the PPE classification model applies the PPE detection algorithm learned from the worker detection area extracted from the work detection model. For verification of the proposed model, experimental results were derived from data obtained from three construction sites. Results: The application of the PPE recognition model to construction site brings up the problems related to mis-recognition and non-recognition. Conclusions: The analysis outcomes were produced to apply the object recognition technology to a construction site, and the need for follow-up research was suggested through representative cases of worker recognition and non-recognition, and mis-recognition of personal protective equipment.

Land monitoring involves systematically understanding changes in land use, leveraging spatial information such as satellite imagery and aerial photographs. Recently, the integration of deep learning technologies, notably object detection and semantic segmentation, into land monitoring has spurred active research. This study developed a web service to facilitate such integrations, allowing users to analyze aerial and drone images using CNN models. The web service architecture comprises AI, WEB/WAS, and DB servers and employs three primary deep learning models: DeepLab V3, YOLO, and Rotated Mask R-CNN. Specifically, YOLO offers rapid detection capabilities, Rotated Mask R-CNN excels in detecting rotated objects, while DeepLab V3 provides pixel-wise image classification. The performance of these models fluctuates depending on the quantity and quality of the training data. Anticipated to be integrated into the LX Corporation's operational network and the Land-XI system, this service is expected to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of land monitoring.
