  • In order to derive hidden Information (concept subsumption, concept satisfiability and realization) of OWL ontologies, a number of OWL reasoners have been introduced. Most of the reasoners were implemented to be based on tableau algorithm. However this approach has certain limitation. This paper presents architecture for Medusa. The Medusa is an extended DL-reasoner for SWRL(Semantic Web Rule Language) reasoning under well-founded semantics with ontologies specified in Description Logic. Description logic based ontology reasoners theoretically explore knowledge representation and its reasoning in concept languages. However these logics are not equipped with rule-based reasoning mechanisms for assertional knowledge base; specifically, rule and facts in logic programming, or interaction of rules and facts with terminology. In order to deal with the enriched reasoning, The Medusa provides combining DL-knowledge base and rule based reasoner. The described prototype uses $Prot{\acute{e}}g{\acute{e}}$ API[1] for controlling communication with the ontology reasoner.

  • This paper suggests a method to expand linkages in a Linked Open Data(LOD) cloud that is a practical consequence of a semantic web. LOD cloud, contrary to the first expectation, has not been used actively because of the lack of linkages. Current method for establishing links by applying to explicit links and attaching the links to LODs have restrictions on reflecting target LODs' changes in a timely manner and maintaining them periodically. Instead of attaching them, this paper suggests that each LOD should prepare a link policy and publish it together with the LOD. The link policy specifies target LODs, predicate pairs, and similarity degrees to decide on the establishment of links. We have implemented a system that performs in-depth searching through LODs using their link policies. We have published APIs of the system to Github. Results of the experiment on the in-depth searching system with similarity degrees of 1.0 ~ 0.8 and depth level of 4 provides searching results that include 91% ~ 98% of the trustworthy links and about 170% of triples expanded.

  • Author name disambiguation is essential for improving performance of document indexing, retrieval, and web search. Author name disambiguation resolves the conflict when multiple authors share the same name label. This paper introduces a novel approach which exploits ontologies and WordNet-based category utility for author name disambiguation. Our method utilizes author knowledge in the form of populated ontology that uses various types of properties: titles, abstracts and co-authors of papers and authors' affiliation. Author ontology has been constructed in the artificial intelligence and semantic web areas semi-automatically using OWL API and heuristics. Author name disambiguation determines the correct author from various candidate authors in the populated author ontology. Candidate authors are evaluated using proposed WordNet-based category utility to resolve disambiguation. Category utility is a tradeoff between intra-class similarity and inter-class dissimilarity of author instances, where author instances are described in terms of attribute-value pairs. WordNet-based category utility has been proposed to exploit concept information in WordNet for semantic analysis for disambiguation. Experiments using the WordNet-based category utility increase the number of disambiguation by about 10% compared with that of category utility, and increase the overall amount of accuracy by around 98%.

  • As the semantic web receives higher concern with an intensified necessity in these days, the research on the ontology as its core technology has been carried out in various fields. The ontology has been adopted as an alternative to work out lots of problematic issues resulted from the insufficient vocabulary selection rules in folksonomy, widely accepted under Web 2.0. Therefore the importance of research to complementarily consolidate the two disciplines, the folksonomy and the ontology, has been increased. Based on this idea this research proposes a system, which pulls out, using open services, the location information tags from folksonomy-based metadata, ultimately extracts, following location information analyses, spatial relationships among tags, and in turn automatically constructs self-correcting location information domain ontology. The system devised in this study will associate data derived from easily accessible folksonomy with meaningful and technological information from ontology.

  • An ontology provides an explicit specification of concepts and relations on information extracted from database or on human knowledge. Using an ontology, The information can be reconstructed according to semantic relations. In this paper. IT-People Event Ontology is constructed using people information extracted from web portals. IT-People Event Ontology represents constant information and time-temporal information on people. A system using this ontology outputs the well-organized reconstructed information on a specific individual in interest, and then the reconstructed information is suitable for users' demand.
