  • We analyzed of the receiver which received OOK and the FSK transmission signal that were a general digital transmission technique in a WDM system. We expressed various error probability with the m which was bandwidth and a bit numerical function and carried out performance evaluation of a receiver in a performance evaluation way. When error probability was $10^{-4}$ which is m=10, as for the receive sensitivity of OOK, the $1.7{\times}10^2$, FSK got $2.2{\times}10^2$ through simulation. And the receive sensitivity of OOK and FSK was able to get each $2.15{\times}10^2$ and $3.07{\times}10^2$ when it was error probability of $10^{-9}$ which is m = 25. Transmission of 23Gb/S showed that it was possible when we does the $10^{-9}$ that was basis error probability of a light communication system with a basis through this, and a coding profit was with for and transmission capacity of 75Gb/s confirmed that it was possible if a code rate was with 0.8.

As a result, the theoretical sensitivity for PIN receiver and optical preamplifier receiver are approximately $9.2\times10^4\;and\;7.2\times10^2$ in the m=20, respectively. Also, the average numbers of photons/bit, for and given error probability, theoretical receiver sensitivity for Gaussian method and k-square method are approximately $9\times10^2\;and\;2.16\times10^2$ in the m=40, respectively. And the average numbers of photons/bit, for an given error probability, theoretical receiver sensitivity, OOK and FSK transmission are approximately $1.9\times10^2\;and\;3.1\times10^2$ in the m=20, respectively.

  • In this paper, an Impulse Radio-Ultra Wide band RF Transceiver for WBAN applications is implemented in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The designed RF transceiver support 3-5GHz UWB low band and employs OOK(On-Off Keying) modulation. The receiver employs non-coherent energy detection architecture to reduce complexity and power consumption. For the rejection of the undesired interferers and improvement of the receiver sensitivity, RF active notch filter is integrated. The VCO based transmitter employs the switch mechanism. As adapt the switch mechanism, power consumption and VCO leakage can be reduced. Also, the spectrum mask is always same at each center frequency. The measured sensitivity of the receiver is -84.1 dBm at 3.5 GHz with 1.579 Mbps. The power consumption of the transmitter and receiver are 0.3nJ/bit and 41 mW respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose the receiver algorithms suitable for the ECMA standard proposed for multi-gigabit packet transmission in 60 GHz band. In the ECMA standard, various modulation schemes are used for system flexibility. Hence, it is crucial to develop receiver algorithms supporting various modulation schemes with an uniform hardware structure. In this paper, we propose the receiver algorithms supporting DBPSK, DQPSK and OOK modulation schemes simultaneously. The proposed algorithms are not only hardware efficient but also support various modulation schemes with an uniform hardware structure.

  • We propose a turbulence-tolerant Manchester on-off keying (M-OOK) transmission for free-space optical (FSO) communication. At the transmitter end, a M-OOK signal featuring a spectrum with low-frequency components absent is modulated and transmitted into a turbulent channel. At the receiver end, a low-pass filter (LPF) -based adaptive-threshold decision (ATD) with LPF-extracted channel-state information (CSI) and a high-pass filter (HPF)-based fixed-threshold decision (FTD) are employed to compensate for the effects of turbulence, owing to the low-frequency spectral characteristics of the turbulent channel. The performance of LPF-based ATD and HPF-based FTD are evaluated for various cutoff frequencies for the LPF and HPF. Besides, the proposed M-OOK transmission is compared to conventional non-return-to-zero OOK (NRZ-OOK) for different data rates. The proposed technique is verified in simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed M-OOK detection with optimized cutoff frequencies of LPF and HPF has better bit-error-rate (BER) performance compared to NRZ-OOK, and it is close to the theoretical ATD with the knowledge of precise CSI under various degrees of turbulence effects.

  • In this study, we used byte-inversion transmission method to prevent the flicker of lighting source in a visible light data communication link. In the transmitter, the non-return-to-zero (NRZ) signal with 9.6 kbps was on-off keying (OOK) modulated with a 100 kHz square wave carrier and byte-inversion signal was added after each byte to make the average optical power of the light-emitting diode (LED) constant. In the receiver, we used a band-pass filter to eliminate the interference of the 120 Hz noise which was induced from the adjacent light lamps, and an OOK demodulator to recover the original NRZ signal This scheme is useful in constructing wireless data networks using the illumination of visible light lamps.

  • In this paper, we present a 60 GHz on-off keying (OOK) modulator in a 90 nm CMOS. The modulator employs a current-reuse technique and a switching modulation for low DC power dissipation, high on/off isolation, and high data rate. The measured gain of the modulator, on/off isolation, and output 1-dB compression point is 9.1 dB, 24.3 dB, and 5.1 dBm, respectively, at 60 GHz. The modulator consumes power consumption of 18 mW, and is capable of handling data rates of 8 Gb/s at bit error rate of less than $10^{-6}$ for $231^{-1}$ PRBS over a distance of 10-cm with an OOK receiver module.
