Scintillation Characteristics of CsI(Li) Single Crystals (CsI(Li) 단결정의 섬광특성)

  • CsI(Li) single crystals doped with 0.02, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mole% lithium as an activator were grown by Czochralski method. The lattice structure of grown CsI(Li) single crystal was bcc, its lattice constant was $4.568\;{\AA}$. The absorption edge of CsI(Li) single crystal was 245 nm, and the spectral range of luminescence was $300{\sim}600\;nm$, its maximum luminescence intensity appeared at 425 nm. The energy resolutions of CsI(Li) single crystal doped with 0.2 mole% lithium were 14.5% for $^{137}Cs$(662 keV), 11.4% for $^{54}Mn$(835 keV) and 17.7% and 7.9% for $^{22}Na$(511 keV and 1275 keV), respectively. The relation formula of $\gamma$-ray energy versus energy resolution was ln (FWHM%) = -0.893lnE + 8.456 and energy calibration formula was ${\log}E_r=1.455\;{\log}(ch.)-1.277$. The phosphorescence decay time of CsI(Li) crystal doped with 0.2 mole% lithium was 0.51 s at room temperature, and its time resolution measured by CFT(constant-fraction timing method) was 9.0 ns.

Assesment of Load and Resistance Factored Design Value for PHC Driven Pile (PHC 항타말뚝의 하중저항계수 산정)

  • Driving a prefabricated pile is the efficient construction method with low cost and excellent bearing capacity charateristics. But pile drinving method has often been changed to bored pile method with mechanical boring due to the unexpected problems occurred in the various domestic ground condition with landfill. So, pile driving method has more uncertainty than the Bored Pile method. This paper proposed LRFD design value which is one of limit states design method for the PHC driven pile used as building foundation to guarantee the reliable design with reduced uncertainty. This paper analysed 221 dynamic load test results(E.O.I.D : 93, Resrike : 128) and the different methods of estimating bearing design(Meyerhof method & SPT-CPT conversion method), and proposed LRFD value for each design reliability Index 2.33 and 3.0 for PHC driven pile. LRFD value of PHC driven pile represents 0.43~0.55 for Meyerhof method and 0.40~0.49 for SPT-CPT conversion method according to the deign reliability index.

Production of Phytol, an ACAT Inhibitor, from Callus Culture of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) (상추 (Lactuca sativa L.) callus로부터 ACAT 억제 활성물질, phytol의 생산)

  • The possibility for mass production of phytol, inhibitory diterpene against ACAT (Acyl-CoA: Cholesterol acyltransferase) was investigated by using callus culture of lettuce. The callus were induced from lettuce cotyledon explants on MS medium containing 0.5 mg.L$^{-1}$ NAA after 4 week's culture. Adventitious roots were formed from the explants on MS medium containing 0.5 mg.L$^{-1}$ IBA or 1.0 mg.L$^{-1}$ NAA. Adventitious shoots and roots were emerged from the callus when the callus was transferred to MS medium containing auxin alone, or with cytokinin. The plant growth regulators and their concentrations for the organogenesis were 1.0 mg.L$^{-1}$ NAA, 0.1 mg.L$^{-1}$ BA, 0.5 mg.L$^{-1}$ NAA with 0.1 mg.L$^{-1}$ kinetin, or 0.5 g.L$^{-1}$ 2.4-D with 1.0 mg.L$^{-1}$ kinetin. Analyses of chlorophyll contents showed that chlorophyll contents were higher in morphogenic calli than in non-morphogenic calli. However, the chemical analyses of gas chromatography indicated that phytol contents were not proportionate to the chlorophyll contents of callus. The content of phytol was higher in callus than in lettuce cotyledon.ledon.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the potential of sea buckthorn leaf (SBL) as a natural antioxidant. SBL was extracted using different ethanol ratios (0, 40, 80, and 100%), and the resulting extracts were examined for their antioxidant contents and antioxidant activities using various methods. The 40% and 80% ethanol extracts (EEs) showed higher total polyphenol contents of 285.06 and 285.64 mg GAE/g respectively, than those in other solvents, and as the ethanol concentration increased, other antioxidant contents of the extracts increased. The 40% and 80% EEs recorded the highest radical scavenging activities against DPPH, superoxide-, ABTS+, nitrite scavenging activity (NO-), and reducing power (RP). The NO- and RP of the SBL EEs were higher than those of ascorbic acid or tannin, which are known as representative antioxidants. The results of this study, suggest that SBL is a potential source of natural antioxidants.

Eine Untersuchung ueber das Haus als das Mitte des Lebens und seine philosophische Bedeutung (삶의 중심으로서의 집과 그 철학적 의미에 대한 연구)

  • In dieser vorliegenden Arbeit wird die eigentliche Bedeutung des Hauses in bezug auf M. Heidegger, G. Bachelard und O. F. Bollnow analysiert. Bei Heidegger ist das Wohnen ein Wesensmerkmal des Menschen und das Haus ein Raum des Wohnens als das Pflegen und Schonen. Insbesondre Bachelard hat die schuetzend Funktion des Hauses und das Haus als das Glueck des Wohnens behauptet. Fuer Bollnow bedeutet das Haus eine Mitte des menschlichen Lebens und der Welt. Heidegger behauptet, dass wir so in der eigentlichen Not des Wohnens, d.h. in der Heimatlosigkieit sind. Wir muessen nach die Bedeutung des Hauses nicht als einen wirtschaftlichen Wert sondern als den eigentlichen Wohnraum denken und das Wohnen lernen. Bachelard weist darauf hin, dass das Haus als ein gluekliche Raum ein wesentliches Trauen voraussetzt. Und er versteht das Haus mit dem dialektischen Zusammenhang zwischen dem Haus und der Welt. Bollnow versucht ueber dem Raum in anthropologische Hinsicht zu betrachten. Er behauptet, dass der Mensch seine wesentlichen Bedeutung durch das Wohnen hat. Durch die Vermenschlichung des Raumes muss der Mensch die Verantwortlichkeit ueber den Raum uebernehmen. In der heutigen Gesellschaft bemessen das Haus sich nur mit einem wirtschaftlichen Wert. Wir muessen das Haus lesen, und die eigentliche Bedeutung des Hauses.

Methodology for Estimating Highway Traffic Performance Based on Origin/Destination Traffic Volume (기종점통행량(O/D) 기반의 고속도로 통행실적 산정 방법론 연구)

  • Understanding accurate traffic performance is crucial for ensuring efficient highway operation and providing a sustainable mobility environment. On the other hand, an immediate and precise estimation of highway traffic performance faces challenges because of infrastructure and technological constraints, data processing complexities, and limitations in using integrated big data. This paper introduces a framework for estimating traffic performance by analyzing real-time data sourced from toll collection systems and dedicated short-range communications used on highways. In particular, this study addresses the data errors arising from segmented information in data, influencing the individual travel trajectories of vehicles and establishing a more reliable Origin-Destination (OD) framework. The study revealed the necessity of trip linkage for accurate estimations when consecutive segments of individual vehicle travel within the OD occur within a 20-minute window. By linking these trip ODs, the daily average highway traffic performance for South Korea was estimated to be248,624 thousand vehicle kilometers per day. This value shows an increase of approximately 458 thousand vehicle kilometers per day compared to the 248,166 thousand vehicle kilometers per day reported in the highway operations manual. This outcome highlights the potential for supplementing previously omitted traffic performance data through the methodology proposed in this study.

G-, C-, and NOR-banding of Korean Native Pig Chromosomes (한국재래돼지의 G-, C-, 및 NOR-banding)

  • Using the G-, C-, and NOR-banding techniques, a karyotyping for Korean Native Pig was performed. Blood samples were collected from 50 male Korean Native Pigs that had been bred at the National Livestock Research Institute and then blood cells were prepared from in vitro cultures followed by karyotyping; G-, C-, and NOR-banding patterns of metaphase chromosomes were analyzed. The karyotype of Korean Native Pig is 38, XX or XY which consists of 5 pairs of submetacentric chromosomes(Group I), 2 pairs of acrocentric chromosomes with short p-arm(Group II), 5 pairs of medium metacentric chromosomes(Group III), 6 pairs of acrocentric chromosomes(Group IV) and metacentric X and Y sex chromosomes. On GTG-banding, the Korean Native Pig exhibited a typical and identical banding pattern in each homologous chromosomes. Overall chromosomal morphology and positions of typical landmarks of the Korean Native Pig were virtually identical to those of Committee for the Standardized Karyotype of the Domestic Pig(CSKDP). However, numbers of G-bands of the Korean Native Pig chromosomes were more than those of CSKDP. In chromosomes 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and X, the Korean Native Pig exhibited more separated bands as compared with CSKDP. In C-banding patterns, although the quantity of heterochromatin was variable in each chromosome, most of the Korean Native Pig chromosomes had heterochromatic C-bands on centromeres. However, the heterochromatic C-band was constantly observed on the whole Y chromosome. In AgNOR staining, the NORs were located at centromeres on the chromosomes 8 and 10. The number of NORs per metaphase ranged from 2 to 4 giving a mean value of 2.13. The number of NORs were distributed on all chromosome pair 10 but not on chromosome 8. The sizes of NORs were also differed between homologous chromosomes 8. Numbers of NORs of Korean Native Pig were significantly higher than those of Yorkshire. The pattern of pig NORs was polymorphic in breeds, individuals and cells, especially on chromosome 8.

Microbial Hazard Analysis of Astragalus membranaceus Bunge for the Good Agricultural Practices (농산물우수관리를 위한 황기(Astragalus membranaceus Bunge)의 미생물학적 위해요소 분석)

  • The objective of this study was to analyze the microbiological hazards of Astragalus membranaceus Bunge on the post-harvest processing. Samples from processing equipments (cleaner, water, cart, table, tray and packaging machine), personal hygiene (hand) and harvested crops (before washing, after washing, after sorting, and after drying) were collected from four farms (A, B, C, and D) located in Chungchengbuk-do, Korea. The samples were analyzed for sanitary indication bacteria and pathogenic bacteria. First, total aerobic bacteria and coliform in processing facilities were detected at the levels of 0.93~4.86 and 0.33~2.28 log CFU/$100cm^2$ and/mL respectively. In particular, microbial contamination in hand (5.43~6.11 and 2.52~4.12 log CFU/Hand) showed higher than processing equipments. Among the pathogenic bacteria, Bacillus cereus was detected at the levels of 0.33~2.41 log CFU/$100cm^2$, 1.48~3.27 log CFU/Hand and 0.67~3.65 log CFU/g in equipments, hands, and plants and Staphylococcus aureus were detected in cleaner, table, hand and harvested crops (before washing and after sorting) by qualitative test. Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella spp. were not detected. These results indicated that personal hygiene and processing equipments should be managed to reduce the microbial contamination of A. membranaceus Bunge. Therefore, management system such as good agricultural practices (GAP) criteria is needed for hygienic agricultural products.

  • The telemetry system for the oxygen, pH, turbidity and the distribution ecology of fishes was constructed by the authors in order to product and manage effectively in shallow sea culture and setnets fisheries, and then the experiments for the telemetry system carried out at the culturing fishing ground in coast of Sanyang-Myon, Kyoungsangnam-Do and the set net fishing ground located Nungpo bay in Kojedo province respectively from October, 1997 to June 1998.As those results, the techniques suggested in the telemetry system for which find out the relationship between the physical and chemical environment in the sea and the distribution ecology of fishes gave full display its function, and its system could be operated as real time system. This research can also provide base-line data to develope a hybrid system unifying the marine environment information and the fisheries resources information in order to manage effectively coastal fishing ground.

  • 25 tank-mixed combinations between Haloxyfop-methyl at 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 kg ae/ha and Acifluorfen at 0, 0.082, 0.163, 0.245 and 0.326 kg ai/ha were applicated at post-emergence on the late-season cropped soybean(Glycine max) fields predominated by grasses and assessed on the weeding efficacy. A most abundant weed species on the experimented fields were found at September (25 species). The broadleaved weed species and sedges were successively and proportionately emerged by the control rate of grass species. From the mono-treatment of each herbicide, Haloxyfop-methyl was recognized as a highly selective one between grasses and soybean, and Acifluorfen between broadleaf weeds and soybean, respectively. By combined application with both herbicides a synergistic weeding efficacy was detected on total weed species, however antagonistic or additive on each weed groups. Among other traits of soybean, stem dry weight was influenced by weed competitions during October, number of pods per plant during August and seed yields during whole periods. For most effective and reasonable weeding, no less than 0.4 kg ai/ha of each herbicides should be applicated in combinations.
