  • The conventional one bath exhaust dyeing system of nylon]/cotton blends with acid dye/direct dye involves a lot of neutral salt which affect dyeability of acid dyes. Because of conventional one bath exhaust dyeing system of nylonl/cotton blends with acid dye/direct dye needs acid dyes adjusted at a neutral liquor, suitable acid dye is limited. To improve dyeing property of nylon/cotton blends, cotton component was pretreated with cationizing agent containing chlorohydrine group in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. This study was carried out to investigate dyeing possibilities of nylon/cationized cotton blends with acid dye/direct dye in a non-neutral salt dyebath by one bath two step method. The concentration of direct dye was 1.0%, 0.7%, 0.3%o.w.f. respectively at a non, 1%, 3%owf of reserving agent for being almost equal color strength between nylon and 3% cationized cotton when nylon/3% cationized cotton blends was dyed with acid dye/direct dye at concentration of acid dye(1%o.w.f.) by one bath two step method.

  • It is difficult to dye nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics by one-bath one-step dyeing method, because acid dyes and reactive dyes require acidic dyebath for adsorption and alkaline dyebath for fixation respectively. In order to overcome the disadvantage of the conventional two bath two step dyeing method of nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabric, it was pretreated with cationizing agent containing chlorohydrine group in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The pretreated nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics produced cationized fabrics that could be dyed with acid dyes and reactive dyes under neutral condition. This study was carried out to investigate dyeing possibilities, surface reflectance spectra and color characteristics of cationized nylon/viscose rayon mixture fabrics with acid dyes and reactive dyes in a non-electrolytic and neutral dyebath by one bath one step dyeing method.

  • A series of poly[3-methylene-3'-methylenesodiumbisulfite-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone] (PMSBPS) was synthesized by the reaction of bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)sulfone(BPS), formalin, and formaldehyde sodium bisulfite(FSB), and their effect on the staining of direct dye on nylon in the dyeing of nylon/cotton union fabric was investigated. PMSBPSes have good staining resist effect on nylon in the dyeing of nylon/cotton union. Prolonged reacting time between BPS and formalin is effective in improving the staining resist of final PMSBPS. Too many sulfonic acid groups than necessary in the PMSBPS increase the staining of nylon, presumably by increasing the solubility of PMSBPS. Staining resist effect of PMSBPS was evident in the measurement of color diffence of dyed goods.

  • Glass fiber reinforced nylon has been used in many plastic industries. Mechanical properties of reinforced plastics depend upon types of glass fiber as well as loading of glass fiber. Tensile properties of glass fiber reinforced nylon66 have been studied for different glass fiber types and sizes. Types of glass fibers were circular and flat, and diameters were 7, 10, and 13 micrometers. Orientations of glass fibers in the matrix of nylon66 have been analyzed through X-ray CT. Tensile specimens were prepared by cutting out of square plates of $100{\times}100{\times}3mm$ with different angles such as 0, 45, and $90^{\circ}$ to the flow direction. As the loading of glass fiber increases to 45 wt% tensile strength increases up 2.5 times compare with neat nylon66. Anisotropic tensile strength has been observed and minimum tensile strength was measured in the specimen cut from perpendicular to the flow direction.

  • The joint method and characteristics of MC nylon and metal are analyzed. Considering the productivity and economics, two materials are joined with the process of turning, knurling, and induction heating. The joint strength is determined by adhesion of the melted nylon, the size of knurl, and the interference from the difference of the diameters. The adhesion strength of the melted nylon is measured. The effects of the knurl size and diameter difference are analyzed with the statistical methods. Finally the joint strength is analyzed in the environments of low, room, and high temperature. Based on this study, the nylon/metal material is expected to be widely used as the sliding machine elements with good lubrication and strength properties.

  • To reduce the weight of the engineering plastic Nylon 6 resin, two high-temperature foaming agents, p-toluenesulfonyl semicarbazide (PTSS) and 5-phenyltetrazole (5-PT) (0-10 phr), were added and foamed without other additives. We investigated the effects of the foaming agent type and content on the foam density (g/cm3) and percent weight reduction rate of the Nylon 6 foam, and 5-PT exhibited better foaming performance than PTSS. In the case of 5-PT, the weight reduction rate was above 36% when the blowing agent content was 1.5 phr or higher, indicating that 5-PT is an effective blowing agent for reducing the Nylon 6 foam weight. Additionally, we studied the effect of the nucleating agent Talc content (0-0.4 phr) on Nylon 6 foaming, and the nucleating agent Talc considerably reduced foaming.

  • The colorfastness of dying persipiration and laundry on summer clothing must be considered, because it has special relation to the human body. The colors of fibers as cotton, p/c, acryl, polyester and nylon which have been widely used for blouse and T-Shirt of Knitted wear are R-P, Y-G, BI-B and print. Studies were carried out with persipirometer, for the natural fiber of cotton the chemical one of nylon, with additional stuff involved, which polluted. The experiment was conducted to colorfastness with acid solution and alkaline solution to see the alteration of color and staining of man-made persiperation. The results obtained from this experiment can be summerized as follows. 1. The order of color alteration isnylon < p/c < coton < polyester < acryl, and the nylon shows the lowest colorfastness, which is 3 class, and the acrly shows the highest colorfateness, which is 5 class. The staining of multifiber test of cotton fabric is nylon < p/c < polyester < cotton < acryl. The staining of multifiber of nylon fabric is nylon polyester < p/c < cotton < acryl. 2. In acid solution and alkaline solution, the alteration of color and staining makes almost no difference, but concerning staining of cotton, the acid solution is lower than the case of alteration solution only. 3. In the pollution on cotton and nylon, the latter is more easily polluted than the former regardless of fabrics. Especially in case of polluted nylon, ti shows the lowest color fastness (2 class), which causes a problem of the dying process and dye stuffs. 4. No difference of color alteration shows among them, but R-P and print show low color fastness (2 class), especially printed nylon shows the lowest value (1 class).
