  • Purpose: This study was an analysis of the relationship between perception for appraisal of staff nurses in operating rooms and performance and organizational commitment. Method: The survey was conducted with 176 staff nurses in operating rooms in 2 hospitals in Seoul. Data were analyzed using frequency, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: 1. Perception for appraisal including accuracy and justice was significantly related to organizational commitment (r=.496, P=.000). Perception for appraisal including accuracy and justice was slightly related to performance (r=.220, P=.003). 2. In order to determine the percentage of the variance of performance and organizational commitment that could be predicted by perception for appraisal, perception for appraisal was entered in the regression equation. Accuracy accounted for 25% of the variance in the organizational commitment. To determine the percentage of the variance of performance that could be predicted by perception for appraisal and organizational commitment, the perception for appraisal and organizational commitment were entered in the regression equation. Organizational commitment accounted for 21% of the variance in the performance. Consequently accuracy predicted organizational commitment. Organizational commitment predicted performance. Conclusions: Findings indicate the need to increase accuracy of performance appraisal to promote organizational commitment and performance in perioperative nurses.

Methods: Data were collected using self - report questionnaires from 300 health personnels. Data were collected between September 1 and December 31, 2017. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Health personnels experienced 29% of sexual harassment, in order of verbal, visual, physical. The frequency of sexual harassment was higher when women were younger, particularly younger than men. Although the average health personnel's awareness of sexual harassment was high, the common coping style was passive such as distancing form the perpetrator. Institutional efforts to prevent sexual harassment included separating employees and staff, but perpetrators tended to account for a high proportion of the supervisors and staff. Methods: The study employed a descriptive correlational design. The data were collected from 148 older adults without dementia by interview from six nursing homes in three cities from February 1, 2008 to February 28, 2008. Results: Levels of nursing home adaptation in older adult residents were different by type of decision maker of nursing home admission, reason of nursing home admission, type of payment and length of nursing home stay. The nursing home adaptation was significantly correlated with self-efficiency and nursing home care quality. The strongest predictor of nursing home adaptation was type of decision maker of nursing home admission followed by the self-efficiency. Conclusion: The study suggested that during the decision making period of nursing home admission, older adults should have enough time and careful considerations of their families to decide by themselves in positive ways. Nursing home staff should be able to identify reasons of nursing home admission and demands or expectations of older adults and their families.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the level of recognition of home care services and to provide basic data for implementation of home care services. Data collection was carried out between December 2004 and January 2005 by surveying 88 nurses and 40 physicians working at a general hospital and 28 physicians working at different clinics in the Seoul metropolitan city area. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Home care services were recognized by $94.2\%$ of nurses, $77.5\%$ of physicians and $92.9\%$ of clinic physicians. The main sources of information for most of them were medical and nursing journals. 2. The percentages of staff regarding find home care services as necessary for the institutions were $88.6\%$ of nurses, $74.4\%$ of physicians and $57.1\%$ of clinic physicians. All of them anticipated that home care services would maintain 'continuous care' and 'long-term patient care'. 3. The percentages of staff willing to refer their patients to home care were $95.5\%$ of nurses, $100\%$ of physicians and $87.1\%$of clinic physicians. However, only $7.1\%$ of clinic physicians were willing to refer actively. 4. Most nurses and physicians replied that a majority of test-related services is suitable for home care services. However, among medication-related services, intravenous injections were not suitable for home care services. Among treatment-related services, most nurses and physicians replied that Levin tube feeding, oral and nasal suction, simple dressing, perineal care, and enema were suitable for home care services, but incision and drainage, and tracheostomy tube change were not suitable for home care services. In conclusion, for the implementation of hospital-based home care services, it is necessary to educate nurses and physicians on the present condition and precedent at other hospitals.

Methods: Data were collected using 2008 annual reports of 10 districts in one city. Input variables were number of staff and operational budget per year and output variables were number of managed household per nurse, rate of controlled hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. EMS Window version 3.1 was used to measure efficiency score and bootstrapping Chi-square test was applied to identify differences between efficient and non-efficient unit by organizational factors. Results: The average efficiency score of 10 community visiting health services was about 66%. Only two of the units operated program efficiently. The career of the staff was one among other factors associated with efficiency. The evaluation results from the traditional method and DEA were totally different. Conclusion: These results indicate that, evaluation methods have very important and significant effects on the evaluation results of community visiting health service units. The DEA method is recommend as an alterative method for evaluating community visiting health service.

  • The study was conducted to centum the construct of individual perception and preference for work characteristics as personal factors influencing Korean nurses' job satisfaction. The subjects of the study were 231 nurses who are currently working in intensive care units and have been for a minimum of 6 months. The study used the Staff Perception and Preference Scale(Song et al., 1997) to measure the individual's perception and preference on the technical. practice. and management components of the ideal work environment. The Korean version of the Staff Perception and Preference Scale consists of 16 items on perception and 13 on preference with each item related on a scale from 1(not at all) to 4(a great deal). Psychometric testing revealed that the preference and perception scale is internally consistent with Chronbach's alphas of .83 for perception scale arid .80 for preference scale. The subscales of the perception and preference scale also showed acceptable reliability for the early stage of the development of the instruments with Chronbach alphas of .62-.76 and .69-.83 respectively. Criterion-related validity of the scale was tested by examining correlations with individual growth need that is conceptually close to individual preference. but not to individual perception. Individual growth need was significantly related to individual preference(r=.63, p<.05), but the correlation with the perception scale was not significant. A separate factor analysis for the each of perception and preference scales was performed with a three-factor loading solution based on a previous study. The results on the staff perception scale confirmed with varimax rotation that the items were cleanly and strongly loaded on technique. practice and management components, which together explained 50.7% of the variance. The factor analysis on the staff preference scale also yielded a three factor solution that explained 56.7% of the variance. but items on technique and management components were loaded together. This phenomena may due to the current nursing delivery system in Korea where nurses never experience either shared governance nor case management, and as a results they may not be able to consider management roles as their potential extended roles. Therefore, more efforts should be given to enhance nurses' autonomy and decision making in the technique, practice and management components of their work environment. Meanwhile, there is a need for continuously confirming and developing tools for individual perception and preferences to effectively enhance job satisfaction among Korean nurses through innovative work environments.

Methods: The participants in this study were 222 public health center staff members at 9 community public health centers located in Seoul city and Gyeonggi province. Descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression were used for statistical analysis of the data. Results: The main findings are as follows: First, communication skill and job satisfaction showed a significant positive correlation with mental health level. Secondly, some components of mental health level generally showed positive correlations with communication skill and job satisfaction. Third, multiple regression showed that 22% of the variance in the mental health level was explained. Conclusions: Based on these results of this study, we suggested that specialized programs should be established to help in development of social arbitration for public health center staff.
