  • As we approach the end of the twentieth century, it seems we need a new way to express the thoughts, needs, and values that are undergoing a drastic change and a new strategy to create diverse cultural forms that would reflect and incorporate such changes. In this study, I am introducing the chaos theory as a new way of thinking that would help counterbalancing the deter-ministic world-view and forging a harmonious unity of man and his environment. As a creative principle, the theory seems to offer an unlimited number of structural possibilities for art and design. In fine, this study discuss-es the reductive nature of modernist approach and offer instead the chaos theory that is more probabilistic and capable of greater diversity.

  • This study examines the wave propagation of the functionally graded polymer composite (FG-PC) nanoplates reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) resting on elastic foundations in the framework of the nonlocal strain gradient theory incorporating both stiffness hardening and softening mechanisms of nanostructures. To this end, the material properties are based on the Halpin-Tsai model, and the expressions for the classical and higher-order stresses and strains are consistently derived employing the second-order shear deformation theory. The equations of motion are then consistently derived using Hamilton's principle of variation. These governing equations are solved with the help of Trial function method. Extensive numerical discussions are conducted for wave propagation of the nanoplates and the influences of different parameters, such as the nonlocal parameter, strain gradient parameter, weight fraction of GNPs, uniform and non-uniform distributions of GNPs, elastic foundation parameters as well as wave number.

  • A finite element based on the efficient higher order zig-zag theory with multiple delaminations Is developed to refine the predictions of frequency and mode shapes. Displacement field through the thickness are constructed by superimposing linear zig-zag field to the smooth globally cubic varying field. The layer-dependent degrees of freedom of displacement fields are expressed in terms of reference primary degrees of freedom by applying interface continuity conditions including delaminated interfaces as well as free hounding surface conditions of transverse shear stresses. Thus the proposed theory is not only accurate but also efficient. This displacement field can systematically handle the number, shape, size, and locations of delaminations. Throught the dynamic version of variational approach, the dynamic equilibrium equations and variationally consistent boundary conditions are obtained. Through the natural frequency analysis and time response analysis of composite plate with multiple delaminations, the accuracy and efficiency of the present finite element are demonstrated. The present finite element is suitable in the predictions of the dynamic response of the thick composite plate with multiple delaminations.

  • The theoretical method is developed to investigate the effects of ring stiffeners on free vibration characteristics and transient response for the ring stiffened composite cylindrical shells subjected to the impulse pressure loading. In the theoretical procedure, the Love's thin shell theory combined with the discrete stiffener theory to consider the ring stiffening effect is adopted to formulate the theoretical model. The concentric or eccentric ring stiffeners are laminated with composite and have the uniform rectangular cross section. The modal analysis technique is used to develop the analytical solutions of the transient problem. The analysis is based on an expansion of the loads, displacements in the double Fourier series that satisfy the boundary conditions. The effect of stiffener's eccentricity, number, size, and position on transient response of the shells is examined. The theoretical results are verified by comparison with FEM results.

  • In this paper, we present a framework for modeling and control of multiple mobile robots which cowork within a bounded workspace and limited resources. To achieve this goal, we adopt a formalism of discrete event system and supervisory control theory based on Petri nets. We can divide our whole story into two parts: first, we search the shortest path using the distance vector algorithm, and then we construct the control scheme from which a number of mobile robots can work within a bounded workspace without any collision. The use of Petri net modeling allows us In synthesize a controller which achieves a control specification for the desired closed-loop behavior efficiently. Finally, the usefulness of the proposed Petri net formalism is illustrated by a simulation study.

  • Degree distribution can provide basic information for structural characteristics and internal relationship in social network. It is a critical procedure for social network topology analysis. In this paper, based on the mean-field theory, we study a special type of social network with exponential distribution of time intervals. First of all, in order to improve the accuracy of analysis, we propose a spreading coefficient algorithm based on intimate relationship, which determines the number of the joined members through the intimacy among members. Then, simulation show that the degree distribution of follows the power-law distribution and has small-world characteristics. Finally, we compare the performance of our algorithm with the existing algorithms, and find that our algorithm improves the accuracy of degree distribution as well as reducing the time complexity significantly, which can complete 29.04% higher precision and 40.94% lower implementation time.

  • Axial fans are very useful cooling devices being widely used in many electric and industrial machinery. However those are often accompanying annoying noise. Many efforts have been devoted in order to reduce the fan noise. In this study, the procedure was devided into two major parts in considering effects of design parameters of axial fan concerned with noise ; the fan theory and the Fukano's fan noise study. By using the fan theory we defined stagger angle, camber angle, blade inlet and outlet angle for studying low noise fan. Then the effects of such angles on the flow rate and static pressure were investigated. By using the Fukano's fan noise theory, the relations of the chord length, the rotational speed and the number of blades vs. fan noise are investigated.

  • The nonlocal static bending, buckling, free and forced vibrations of graphene nanosheets are examined based on the Kirchhoff plate theory and Taylor expansion approach. The nonlocal nanoplate model incorporates the length scale parameter which can capture the small scale effect. The governing equations are derived using Hamilton's principle and the Navier-type solution is developed for simply-supported graphene nanosheets. The analytical results are proposed for deflection, natural frequency, amplitude of forced vibration and buckling load. Moreover, the effects of nonlocal parameter, half wave number and three-dimensional sizes on the static, dynamic and stability responses of the graphene nanosheets are discussed. Some illustrative examples are also addressed to verify the present model, methodology and solution. The results show that the new nanoplate model produces larger deflection, smaller circular frequencies, amplitude and buckling load compared with the classical model.

  • In this work, a novel higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT) for static and free vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates is proposed. Unlike the conventional HSDTs, the proposed theory has a novel displacement field which includes undetermined integral terms and contains fewer unknowns. Equations of motion are obtained by using Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions for the bending and dynamic investigation are determined for simply supported FG plates. The computed results are compared with 3D and quasi-3D solutions and those provided by other plate theories. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed HSDT can achieve the same accuracy of the conventional HSDTs which have more number of variables.
