In Public Switched Telephone Networks(PSTN) number portability is implemented by utilizing Intelligent Network(IN) functions for number mapping. And voice over IP(VoIP) and IP Multimedia Subsystem(IMS) networks can deploy number portability by using E.164 Number Mapping(ENUM). This paper discuss the possibility of using E.164 Number Mapping(ENUM) for number portability in voice over IP/IP Multimedia Subsystem and Public Switched Telephone Networks, eliminating the need for Number Portability Database(NPDB) for number portability routing data in Public Switched Telephone Networks.

Number portability facilitates that a customer can keep their phone number when changing from one network operator to another. There are three types of NP, that is the operator portability, the service portability and the location portability. Political regulation is required, because number portability induces the transfer of benefits from suppliers to customers and activate the competition among firms. In this paper, we will examin the domestic trends of number portability and analysis the effort of number portability on the competition among firms.

Number portability is a policy for the increase of user benefits and promotion of telecommunications market competition. In June Un, local number portability (LNP) will be implemented in Korea. The technical solution of LNP will migrate via initial non-intelligent option (RCF) to intelligent option (QoR) from 2007 and number portability standard for 2G mobile uses QoR. The introduction of number portability needs to change operators' network and to implement the solution of LNP suitable to their network property. Therefore the purpose of this paper is to propose a suggestion for the technical options of number portability by the comparative study of merits and demerits of several solutions and the case study of several countries.

Number Portability means that one can use his original telephone number when he change telephone service provider, region and the kind of service. It is service provider portability which retain same number when changed the service provider. It is location portability which retain same number when changed the geographic location. It is service portability which retain same number when changed the service type. Revision of INAP(Intelligent Network Application Part) is essential part to provide number portability In this paper, we present the changed part of INAP to provide number part.

Number Portability means that one can use his original telephone number when he change telephone service provider, region and the kind of service. Number portability is not necessary when only one telephone service provider exist in korea. But it is necessary to guarantee pair competition among the service providers as new communication service provider comes. The law which is related number portability is established by government as number portability is considered a tool to guarantee pair competition between old service provider and new service provider. A national standard on number portability with which all service provider can agree is needed. We developed functional standard for that purpose. Functional standard includes call processing structure, network requirement. This paper handle functional standards.

This study analyzes strategy and main contents between each business market by mobile phone Number Portability. And, grasps what each mobile company customer satisfaction factors is effected on mobile phone Number Portability and estimates relative importance about the factors and understand counter strategies by these factors. Therefore, purpose of this study investigate weather the mobile phone Number Portability can specific function to promote competition in mobile Number Portability and present proper policy introduction direction examining factors to succeed

We analyzed the effect of 6-month lagged number portability policy and introduction of common number among carriers on Korean mobile market. Our result shows that the policy change contributed to both the increase in number of mobile subscribers and decrease in dominant carrier's market share. We found that unified prefix among mobile operators is more effective than the lagged number portability policy. The carriers' profit, however, decreased a lot due to excessive marketing expenditure. We also estimated market shares of carriers up to year 2005 when full number portability policy is adopted. The results show that dominant carrier's monopolistic power will be recovered by the end of 2005 implying government's number policy itself cannot guarantee the effective competition in Korean mobile market.

Recently, customers can select various service providers using number portability according to given select options such as quality of service and fare organization. Therefore it is possible that subscriber maintenance and quality competition are converted to fare competition which is real competition concept. However, it is time that we need number portability between $2G{\rightarrow}3G$ for activating 3G services because some important issues are closed such as domestic number portability, WiBro service provider selection. In this paper, we proposed applying method and necessity of $2G{\rightarrow}3G$ number portability Also, we analyzed $2G{\rightarrow}3G$ number portability examples of domestic and foreign countries and domestic market situation about abstract of 3G mobile communication service and number portability introduction between $2G{\rightarrow}3G$ for 3G service activation appearing newly in this research.

Mobile number portability(MNP) means currently number portability among the 2G cellular phone in Korea and subscriber can change his mobile phone system operator without change his phone number. MNP system use QoR(Query on Release) method in call processing. We shows that the realization and performance of MNP system and the problems that is related with MNP system.
