  • This paper describes the load distribution and settlement of rockbolted-drilled shafts subjected to axial and lateral loads with the view to shortening the embedded depth of the pile shaft. The emphasis was on quantifying the reinforcing effects of rockbolts placed from the shafts to surrounding weathered rocks based on small-scale model tests peformed on instrumented piles. The major influencing parameters on reinforcing drilled shaft behavior are the number, the positions on the shaft, the grade, and the inclination angle at which the rockbolts are placed. The model tests was 1/40 scaled simulations of the behavior of the drilled shafts with varying combinations of the major influencing parameters. The incremental effects of reinforcement based on the various parameters have been weighed against load transfer characteristics before and after rockbolt installations.

  • Heat cycle aging of insulating materials in large generator stator winding has been investigated using both on-line and off-line test methods. On this study, principally, off-line test against actual generator in service was carried out to acquire information about polarization index(PI) and dissipation factor, dissipation factor tip-up, maximum partial discharge for the purpose of remnant breakdown voltage and life assessment. It was found from the tests that both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge decreased with the increase of operating hours and starting numbers. It was found from off-line tests that the remnant breakdown voltage had a strong relationship with both dissipation factor and maximum partial discharge the remnant breakdown voltage as a results of both operating hours and starting number and the nondestructive tests were proposed as parameters which can predict the remnant lifetime of insulating materials in large generator stator windings. • Testing equality of two and k distributions has long been an interesting issue in statistical inference. To overcome the sparseness of data points in high-dimensional space and deal with the general cases, we suggest several projection pursuit type statistics. Some results on the limiting distributions of the statistics are obtained, some properties of Bootstrap approximation are investigated. Furthermore, for computational reasons an approximation for the statistics the based on Number theoretic method is applied. Several simulation experiments are performed.

  • The mutagenic potential of rHu-EPO was evaluated using the short-term genotoxicity tests including Ames, chromosome aberration and micronuclei tests. In Salmonella typhimurium assay, rHu-EPO did not show any mutagenic response in the absence or presence of S9 mix with TA98, TA100, TA1535, and TA1537. In chromosome aberration test, rHu-EPO did not show any significant effect on Chinese Hamster Ovary(CHO) cells compared with control. In micronucleus test using male ICR mice, a dose-dependence increase in the frequency of micronucleuted polychromatic erythrocytes(MNPCEs) was observed in bone marrow cells treated with rHu-EPO. However, it was related to the secondary effect of rHu-EPO and the number of MNPCEs was equal to spontaneous frequency. These results indicate that rHu-EPO does not show any positive response in short-term genotoxicity assays.

  • Because of the inherent flexibility in their design for improved material properties, composites have wide applications in aerospace vehicles and automobiles. The purpose of this study is to investigate the energy absorption characteristics of CFRf (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes on static and impact tests. Static compression tests have been carried out using the static testing machine(Shin-gang buckling testing machine) and impact compression tests have been carried out using the vertical crushing testing machine. When such tubes were subjected to crushing loads, the response is complex and depends on the interaction between the different mechanisms that control the crushing process. The collapse characteristics and energy absorption were examined. Trigger and interlaminar number affect the energy absorption capability of CFRP tubes.

  • This paper is purpose to introduce the database management program of insulation tests for high voltage rotating machines. KEPRI has carried out insulation tests for high voltage equipment since 1998, the number of tests grow larger every year. It is difficult to manage the numerous test results, so we developed the insulation diagnostic database program. The features of this program are an easy-search test result and making a graph of AC, tan${\Delta}$ test. the most useful function is the trend management. Using the trend function, we can find the aging deterioration for high voltage machines easily.

  • Steel tubular towers are commonly used in UHV and long crossing transmission lines. By considering effects of the model scale, the solidity ratio and the ratio of the mean width to the mean height, wind tunnel tests under different wind speeds on twenty tubular steel tower body models and twenty-six tubular steel cross-arm models were completed. Drag coefficients and shielding factors of the experimental tower body models and cross-arm models in wind directional axis for typical skewed angles were obtained. The influence of the lift forces on the skewed wind load factors of tubular steel tower bodies was evaluated. The skewed wind load factors, the wind load distribution factors in transversal and longitudinal direction were calculated for the tubular tower body models and cross-arm models, respectively. Fitting expressions for the skewed wind load factors of tubular steel bodies and cross-arms were determined through nonlinear fitting analysis. Parameters for skewed wind loads determined by wind tunnel tests were compared with the regulations in applicable standards. Suggestions on the drag coefficients, the skewed wind load factors and the wind load distribution factors were proposed for tubular steel transmission towers.

  • Purpose: To identify the essential characteristics of pain which nurse have to obtain for patients with chest pain, 92 patients who were admitted in medical units to take intensive tests for heart disease were investigated cross-sectionally. Method: Duration, severity, stress, anxiety, perceived severity, number of painful area, number of accompanying symptoms, triggering activity, and pattern were included as the characteristics of pain. Ejection fraction of left ventricle and number of involved area detected by ultrasonography and number of diseased coronary artery detected by cardiac catheterization were assessed as the variables of heart disease extent. Result: Severity of pain was found to be correlated with all three variables of heart disease extent. Perceived severity and number of accompanying symptoms were correlated with two of them. Anxiety, number of painful area and pattern were related with the number of involved area. Conclusion: Pain severity reported by patients is found to be the most important variable to be obtained from patient. Variables such as perceived severity, number of accompanying symptoms, anxiety, number of painful area and pattern also have to be carefully assessed to anticipate the extent of heart disease.

  • Partial discharge(PD) tests were performed both when the pumped storage generator(rated 13.8kV and 220MVA) was on-line and off-line. This generator has been equipped with 12 bus coupler sensors in directional mode. PD tests were conducted using partial discharge analyzer(PDA), partial discharge meter(PDM) and digital partial discharge detector. PDA showed that the patterns of the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the partial discharge magnitude are in accord with on-line and off-line. The insulation condition was estimated by diagnostic tests(off-line) such as PD magnitude and dissipation factor.

  • Among non-destructive tests for compressive strength, rebound number test and pulse velocity test are the most widely used methods. However, the non-destructive tests mostly used in Korea was developed by foreign country. Therefore, it is unreasonable to directly apply them to concrete structures in Korea. In accordance with the suggestion of Institute of Architecture in Japan for rebound number test, a compressive strength is calculated by the mean value of 20 hit points without being considered standard deviation. Furthermore, there is no regulation on the number of measurements required for measuring compressive strength by pulse velocity test. This study, therefore, reviewed the rebound number test and pulse velocity test by chi-square, and suggested the minimum number of each test. As a result, the minimum number that falls within range of reliability for rebound number test and pulse velocity test are 11 and 7, respectively. If abnormal values are processed as missing and test groups are assumed to be arrayed in cross by considering changes in quality of actual concrete structures, 20 times and 9 times are appropriate for rebound number test and pulse velocity test, respectively.
