  • The skin of the eel goby, Odontamblyopus lacepedii, consists of epidermis, dermis and subcutis. The epidermis has three layers: the outermost layer, middle layer and stratum germinativum. The outermost layer is composed of polygonal cells or rather flattened cells, and mucous gland cells of acid mucopolysaccharides. The middle layer consists mainly of swollen small or voluminous epidermal cells and shows a web-shaped structure. The thickness of the epidermis depends on the various sizes and the number of layers of the swollen cells. Well-developed lymphatic spaces containing lymphocytes exist in the stratum germinativum and small scales are embedded in the dermis. A large number of blood capillaries are present just below the basement membrane, and a definite area giving AB and PAS positive was present between the basement membrane and scales, Taste buds ave distributed on surface of the epidermis at intervals. Considering the structural features of the skin, it may be considered that O. lacepedii is more likely to be related to cutaneous respiration as a dual respiratory system.

  • Concrete mix design is used as essential data for the quality of concrete, analysis of structures, and stable use of sustainable structures. However, since most of the formulation design is established based on the experience of experts, there is a lack of data to base it on. are suffering Accordingly, in this study, the purpose of this study is to build a predictive model to use the concrete mixing factor as basic data for calculation using the DNN technique. As for the data set for DNN model learning, OPC and ternary concrete data were collected according to the presence or absence of admixture, respectively, and the model was separated for OPC and ternary concrete, and training was carried out. In addition, by varying the number of hidden layers of the DNN model, the prediction performance was evaluated according to the model structure. The higher the number of hidden layers in the model, the higher the predictive performance for the prediction of the mixing elements except for the compressive strength factor set as the output value, and the ternary concrete model showed higher performance than the OPC. This is expected because the data set used when training the model also affected the training.

  • This study investigated the effects of the substrate and powder content on the fabrication of SiO$_{2}$ photonic crystals by evaporation method. Photonic crystals were self-assembled on quartz, Corning 1737 glass, slide glass, and ITa glass to verify the effects of the wetting angle and surface morphology. The powder contents of the solution were varied from 0.2 to 2.0 wt$\%$. The number of photonic crystal layers increased according to the decrease of wetting angle and surface roughness. The resultant photonic crystals showed the best optical characteristics when the number of photonic crystal layers was within 40 and 50. In addition, the intensity peak of Fabry¡?Perot fringes increased when the wetting angle was large and the particle size was small. Photonic crystals coated on ITO glass showed the highest reflectance peak of 63$\%$ relative intensity.

  • Steel structures often require strengthening due to the increasing life loads, or repair caused by corrosion or fatigue cracking. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) is one of the materials used to strengthen steel structures. Most studies on strengthening steel structures have been carried out on steel beams and steel columns under centric compression load. No independent article, to the author's knowledge, has studied the effect of CFRP strengthening on steel columns under eccentric compression load, and it seems that there is a lack of understanding on behavior of CFRP strengthening on steel columns under eccentric compression load. However, this study explored the use of adhesively bonded CFRP flexible sheets on retrofitting square hollow section (SHS) steel columns under the eccentric compression load, using numerical investigations. Finite Element Method (FEM) was employed for modeling. To determine ultimate load of SHS steel columns, eight specimens with two types of section (Type A and B), strengthened using CFRP sheets, were analyzed under different coverage lengths, the number of layers, and the location of CFRP composites. Two specimens were analyzed without strengthening (control) to determine the increasing rate of the ultimate load in strengthened steel columns. ANSYS was used to analyze the SHS steel columns. The results showed that the CFRP composite had no similar effect on the slender and stocky SHS steel columns. The results also showed that the coverage length, the number of layers, and the location of CFRP composites were effective in increasing the ultimate load of the SHS steel columns.

  • A study of the dependence of the magnetoresistance in $glass\[Cu_{x\AA}\NiFe_{50\AA}\Cu_{x\AA}\Co_{50\AA}](X;\=\;8,\;10,\;14,\;18,\;22,\;26,\;28,\;38,\;48,\;58\;\AA,\;N\;=\;2,\;3,\;4,\;10,\;20)$ multilayers prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on the interlayer thickness of Cu (X), the number of multylayer(N) and annealing temperature has been performed. Resistance measurement were made by four terminal method, and the magnetic field applied to perpendicular and parallel for the current. The maximum magnetoresistance(MR) ratio(%) was appeared in the vicinity of $10\;\AA$ in Cu layer, and it was oscillated with the thickness of Cu. The MR ratio was increased with the number of layers N, however the ratio for the N = 4 layers decreased rather than the N = 3 layers. The dependence of the ratio on the annealing temperature was increased to $250^{\circ}C$.

  • A monographic reassessment of Padina Adanson species from the Gulf of California was developed based on an exhaustive review of the character and characters states that have been used to delimit species in recent and historically valuable collections. Eight names (P. caulescens Thivy in Taylor, P. concrescens Thivy in Taylor, P. crispata Thivy in Taylor, P. durvillaei Bory Saint-Vincent, P. gymnospora [Kutzing] Sonder, P. mexicana Dawson, P. tetrastromatica Hauck and P. vickersiae Hoyt in Howe) were reported from the region. An analysis of 1,200 specimens led to the conclusion that only three species (P. durvillaei, P. concrescens and P. mexicana) can be recognized for the area based on four discriminating characters: presence of calcium carbonate in the cell wall; number of medullary cell layers in the basal area; number of medullary cell layers in the middle part and presence/absence of cortical cells. Comparative analysis of the species in the Gulf of California in relation to other recently evaluated species has shown a clear distinction among them suggesting Padina species were overestimated in our area.

  • Steel frames are widely used in steel structures. Exiting steel structures may be needed to strengthen for various reasons. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) is one of the materials that are used to strengthen steel structures. Most studies on strengthening steel structures have been done on beams and steel columns. No independent study, to the researcher's knowledge, has studied the effect of CFRP strengthening on steel frames. This study explored the use of CFRP composite on retrofitting square hollow section (SHS) steel frames, using numerical investigations. Ten Finite Element (FE) models, which were strengthened with CFRP sheets, were analyzed under different coverage length, number of layers, and location of CFRP composite. One FE model without strengthening was analyzed as a control FE model to determine the increase of the ultimate load in the strengthened steel frames. ANSYS software was used to analyze the SHS steel frames. The results showed that the coverage length and the number of layers of CFRP composite have a significant effect on increasing the ultimate load of the SHS steel frames. The results also showed that the location of CFRP composite had no similar effect on increasing the ultimate load and the amount of mid span deflection of the SHS steel frames.

  • The morphological characteristics and changes of the foregut in the grasshopper (Oxya sinuosa Mistshenko) have been studied with the special reference to the developmental stage. In light microscope level, the epithelia are seen the cuboidal shape in the 5th instar nymph and the adult. A number of pigment granules are appeared in the cuboidal epithelium of the 5th instar nymph, however the pigment granules were a few in the adult. Indistinct or undifferentiated folds of the epithelial layer were appeared in the 5th instar nymph, whereas the well-developed folds were in the adult. The well-developed muscular layers are seen in the 5th instar nymph, however in the adult the muscular layers are appeared thin or a few layer except the crop. In electron microscope level, in the foregut epithelium, a few round or oval shaped mitochondria, well-developed rER, Golgi complex, lysosome and a number of vacuoles were appeared in the cytoplasm. Two types of pigment granules, electron dense or homogenous and low electron dense or lamellar profiles, are seen in the esophageal epithelium. The crystalline profiles and plasma membrane infoldings were also appeared. In the foregut epithelium of the 5th instar nymph, however the cell organelles were generally undifferentiated and in the crop two types of pigment granules as the adult esophageal epithelium were also found.

  • PTC thermistors with multilayer structure were fabricated by internal electrode bonding technique in order to realize low resistance. MLPTC (Multilayer Positive Temperature Coefficient) possess various features, such as small size, low resistivity and large current. We describe the effect of additives on the PTC characteristics, voltage - current characteristics, temperature dependence of resistance and complex impedance spectra as a function of frequency range 100 Hz to 13MHz to determine grain boundary resistance. It was found that MLPTC thermistor has both highly nonlinear effects of temperature dependent resistance and voltage dependent current behaviors, which act as passive element with self-repair mechanisms. Decrease of room temperature resistance with increasing the number of layers was demonstrated to be a grain boundary effect. Switching characteristics of current were caused by heat capacity of PTC thermistor with multilayer structure. Switching times are lengthened by increasing the number of layers.

  • The finite element method has been widely applied in the sheet metal forming process. However, the finite element method is computationally expensive and time consuming. In order to tackle this problem, surrogate modeling methods have been proposed. An artificial neural network (ANN) is one such surrogate model and has been well studied over the past decades. However, when it comes to ANN with two or more layers, so called deep neural networks (DNN), there is distinct a lack of research. We chose to use DNNs our surrogate model to predict the behavior of sheet metal in the deep drawing process. Thickness variation is selected as an output of the DNN in order to evaluate workpiece feasibility. Input variables of the DNN are radius of die, die corner and blank holder force. Finite element analysis was conducted to obtain data for surrogate model construction and testing. Sampling points were determined by full factorial, latin hyper cube and monte carlo methods. We investigated the performance of the DNN according to its structure, number of nodes and number of layers, then it was compared with a radial basis function surrogate model using various sampling methods and numbers. The results show that our DNN could be used as an efficient surrogate model for the deep drawing process.
