粒子狀 物質中 金屬成分의 密度分布 (Density Distributions of Metallic Compounds in Particulate Matters)

  • For identification and apportionment of sources emitting particulate matters in environment, the multi-elemental characterization of size-density fractionated particulate matters was carried out. Eight types of samples were tested; soil, flyash released from burning of bunker-Coil, diesel oil, coal, and soft coal, urban road-way dust, urban dust fall, and airborne particulate matter. The fractions of particulate matters obtained by heavy liquid separation methos with a series of dichloromethane-bromoform were then analyzed using atomic absorption spectrophotometry for Ni, Cr, Cu, An, Fe, Al, and Mg. Each sample showed a different concentration profile as a function of density, and a number of useful conclusions concerning characterization of elemental distribution were obtained. From the density distributions of elements in soil, the maximum value was found for all elements in the density range of 2.2 $\sim 2.9g.cm^{-3}$, including the density of $SiO_2$. However, the distribution of metallic compounds with the density lower than $2.2g.cm^{-3}$ was prevalent in urban roadway dust, urban dust fall, and airborne particulate matter. And the density distribution curves of these urban dusts also have the higher distribution at the density of 2.2 - 2.9g.cm^{-3}$, including the density of wind-blown silica. This tendency generally was prevalent in the natural source elements, such as Al, Fe, Mn, and Mg. The maximum values were found in the density ranges of 1.3 $\sim 2.2g.cm^{-3}$ from the density distribution of elements in oil fired flyash. These distributions of anthropogenic source elements, such as Zn, Ni, Cu, and Cr were higher predominately than those of natural source elements. And the higher distribution was found in the density range of $2.2 \sim 2.9g.cm^{-3}$ from the density distribution of elements in coal and soft-coal fired flyash. These distributions showed similar patterns to soil. But anthropogenic source elements somewhat predominated at the density ranges of $1.3 \sim 2.2g.cm{-3} and 2.9g.cm^{-3}$ to soil. Therefore the higher distribution of anthropogenic source elements in the density ranges of $1.3 \sim 2.2g.cm^{-3} and 2.9g.cm^{-3}$ was considered as anthropogenic origin.

서울시 미세먼지의 밀도 추정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Particles Density Estimation in Seoul Metropolitan)

  • The variation of the particle size distribution and density as well as the chemical composition of aerosols is important to evaluate the particles. This study measured and analyzed airborne particles using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) system and an aerodynamic particle sizer (APS) at the University of Seoul during every season. The highest particle number concentration of airborne particles less than $0.9\;{\mu}m$, occurred in winter, while the highest particle number concentration of airborne particles more than $0.9\;{\mu}m$, occurred in spring. Mass concentration appeared highest at spring. Also, when we compared $\beta$-ray's mass concentration with calculated mass concentration by using the SMPS-APS system during each season, density of the winter is $1.92\;g/cm^3$, spring density is $1.64\;g/cm^3$, fall density is $1.57\;g/cm^3$. We found out that PM10 density was differ every season. However, while the calculated density is whole density for PM10 the density of each diameter was different. In this study the density estimation equation of the QCM cascade impactor measured mass concentration of each diameter.

Stochastic Modeling of Plug-in Electric Vehicle Distribution in Power Systems

  • This paper proposes a stochastic modeling of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) distribution in power systems, and analyzes the corresponding clustering characteristic. It is essential for power utilities to estimate the PEV charging demand as the penetration level of PEV is expected to increase rapidly in the near future. Although the distribution of PEVs in power systems is the primary factor for estimating the PEV charging demand, the data currently available are statistics related to fuel-driven vehicles and to existing electric demands in power systems. In this paper, we calculate the number of households using electricity at individual ending buses of a power system based on the electric demands. Then, we estimate the number of PEVs per household using the probability density function of PEVs derived from the given statistics about fuel-driven vehicles. Finally, we present the clustering characteristic of the PEV distribution via case studies employing the test systems.

Reliability-based stochastic finite element using the explicit probability density function

  • This paper presents a technique for determining the optimal number of elements in stochastic finite element analysis based on reliability analysis. Using the change-of-variable perturbation stochastic finite element approach, the probability density function of the dynamic responses of stochastic structures is explicitly determined. This method combines the perturbation stochastic finite element method with the change-of-variable technique into a united model. To further examine the relationships between the random fields, discretization of the random field parameters, such as the variance function and the scale of fluctuation, is also performed. Accordingly, the reliability index is calculated based on the explicit probability density function of responses with Gaussian or non-Gaussian random fields in any number of elements corresponding to the random field discretization. The numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for a one-dimensional cantilever reinforced concrete column and a two-dimensional steel plate shear wall. The benefit of this method is that the probability density function of responses can be obtained explicitly without the use simulation techniques. Any type of random variable with any statistical distribution can be incorporated into the calculations, regardless of the restrictions imposed by the type of statistical distribution of random variables. Consequently, this method can be utilized as a suitable guideline for the efficient implementation of stochastic finite element analysis of structures, regardless of the statistical distribution of random variables.

The 2D Measurement of Soot Diameter and Number Density in a Diesel Engine Using Laser Induced Methods

  • It is necessary to diagnose accurately the characteristics of soot formation and oxidation in a diesel engine. Whereas past measurement techniques for soot concentration give limited information for soot, laser-based two-dimensional imaging diagnostics have a potential to provide temporally and spatially superior resolved measurements of the soot distribution. The technique using laser sheet beam has been applied to an optically accessible diesel engine for the quantitative measurement of soot. The results provided the information for reduction of soot from the diesel engine. Both LIS (Laser Induced Scattering) and LII (Laser Induced Incandescence) techniques were used simultaneously in this study. The images of LIS and LII showed the quantitative distribution of the soot concentration in the diesel engine. In this study, several results were obtained by the simultaneous measurements of LIS and LII technique. The diameter and number density of soot in combustion chamber of the test engine were obtained from ATDC 20 degree to 110 degree. The soot diameter increased about 37% between ATDC 20 degree and 110 degree. The number density of soot, however, decreased significantly between ATDC 40 degree and 70 degree.

중남부 삼림 지역에서의 세포성 점균의 출현과 분포 (Cellular Slime Molds in Forest Soils of Central Areas of Korea)

  • A study of occurrence and distribution of cellular slime molds(CSMs) in forest soils of central areas of Korea was carried out. Samples for CSMs isolation were collected from 4 study sites; Mt.Kyeryong, Mt. Taebaek, Mt. Sobaek and Mt. Sokri. In Mt. Kyeryong, six species were found. These were Dictyostelium fasciculatum, D.firmibasis, D. mucoroides, D. minutum, D. brefeldianum and Polysphondylium pallidum. The average number of species isolated at one site was 0.75, and average density(clones /g soil) was 292. The results of soil sample analyses were that the concentration of Pb was higher than any other areas. In Mt. Taebaek, seven species were found; D. fasciculatum, D.firmibasis, D. mucoroides, D. miuutum, P.pallidum. P. violaceum, P. candidum. The average number of species isolated at one site was 2.3,and average density was 1,108. Based on importance values calculated from study sites within each of three elevation ranges, several of the more widely distributed and abundant species have distribution patterns that show a response to elevation. In Mt. Sobaek, eleven species were found. These were D. fasciculatum. D.firmibasis, D. mucoroides, D. miuutum, D. brefeldianum, D. crassicaule,D. deminutivum, D. implicatum, P. pallidum. P. violaceum and P. candidum. The average number of species isolated at one site was 3, and average density was 793. Species diversity appeared to be the highest in this area. In Mt. Sokri, six species were found. These were D. fasciculatum. D. mucoroides, D. minutum, D. purpureum, P. pallidum. and P. violaceum. The average number of species isolated at one site was 2.4 and average density was 858. It was noticeable that D.purpureum were much more comrnonly found in this pinus evergreen forest. 밀도분포법을 이용한 부재의 연결구조 최적화 (Topology Optimization of Connection Component System Using Density Distribution Method)

  • Most engineering products contain more than one component. Failure occurs either at the connection itself or in the component at the point of attachment of the connection in many engineering structures. The allocation and design of connections such as bolts, spot-welds, adhesive etc. usually play an important role in the structure of multi-components. Topology optimization of connection component provides more practical solution in design of multi-component connection system. In this study, a topology optimization based on density distribution approach has been applied to optimal location of fasteners such as T-shape, L-shape and multi-component connection system. From the results, it was verified that the number of iteration was reduced, and the optimal topology was obtained very similarly comparing with ESO method. Therefore, it can be concluded that the density distribution method is very suitable for topology optimization of multi-component structures.

MASS DISTRIBUTION IN THE CENTRAL FEW PARSECS OF THE MILKY WAY

  • Near-IR observations of the central few parsecs of our Galaxy from the HST/NICMOS have been analyzed to produce H, K photometry. We have cross-identified our photometry with the Keck high-resolution spectrometry of the central 0.5 pc of our galaxy to distinguish evolved late-type stars from early-type stars, and use late-type stars as tracer population. We perform several statistical tests to find the best fitting parameters of stellar density distribution and velocity dispersion models, then derive volume number densities and velocity dispersions. The volume number density distribution has power law index $1.55\~1.7$. We then derive the mass distribution in the Central region of our Galaxy using the Jeans equation.

워터커튼에서 액적의 크기 분포와 광학 두께의 상관관계 분석 (Analysis on the Relations of Droplet Size Distribution and Optical Depth in Water Curtain)

  • 본 연구에서는 워터 커튼용 노즐(Water curtian nozzle)의 액적 크기 분포(droplet size distribution)에 따라서 복사열을 감쇄하기 위한 광학 두께(optical depth)를 분석하였다. 액적 크기 분포를 측정하기 위해서 HELOS/VARIO 물 입자 측정 장치를 사용하였으며, Deirmenjian의 수정된 감마 분포 함수(modified gamma distribution function)를 적용하여 분사 특성을 정량화 하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 워터 커튼용 노즐은 분포 상수(distribution constant) ${\alpha}=1$, ${\gamma}=5.2$의 값으로 나타났으며, 액적의 밀도 수(number density)를 고려한 분포 하중(droplet loading)과 액적 크기 분포 변화에 따라서 광학 두께에 관한 일반화된 관계식을 제시하였다. 본 연구 결과는 워터 커튼용 노즐의 설계 조건을 분석하기 위한 유용한 연구 자료가 될 것으로 사료된다.
