Reduction of Control Messages in a Multi-rate Based Ad hoc Network (Multi-rate의 애드혹 네트워크에서 제어메시지 감소 기법)

  • 애드혹 네트워크지(ad hoc network)는 기존 유선 환경에서의 인프라가 없이도 각 무선 노드들이 필요한 상황에 맞게 동적으로 네트워크를 구성할 수 있는 무선 노드들의 집합을 말한다. 애드혹 네트워크는 제한된 파워 공급, 노드의 이동성으로 인한 잦은 경로 재설정 등으로 동적인 토폴로 구조를 갖는다. 유선 네트워크와 다른 이러한 특징들 때문에 기존의 라우팅 알고리즘을 수정한 다양한 라우팅 알고리즘이 등장 하였다. 그 중 multi-rate을 고려한 AODV 라우팅 기법은 기존의 single-rate을 이용하는 것보다 전송 연 시간의 감소, 패킷 처리율 증가와 같은 장점을 갖는다. 그러나 새로운 경로를 설정함에 있어서 네트워크 전반에 걸쳐 제어 메시 의 수가 증가하는 단점이 있다. 애드혹 네트워크에서 제어메시 는 데이터 패 킷보다 전송시 우선 순위를 가 기 때문에 제어메시 의 증가는 전체적인 패킷 처리율을 감소시킨다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하고자 본 논문에서는 경로 복구 매커니즘의 확장 및 검색지(expanding ring search)알고리즘에서 제어 메시 의 수를 효과적으로 줄일 수 있는 방법을 제안하였다. 기본 아이디어는 단절 이전의 정보를 이용하여 선택적으로 제어 메시 를 브로드 캐스트하는 것이다. NS-2로 제안 알고리즘을 시뮬레이션 한 결과. 기존방법에 비해 20%이상 제어 메시 가 감소하였고, 패킷 전송 연에 대해서는 최대 10%의 감소율을 보여 기존 방법보다 좋은 성능을 보임을 확인할 수 있었다.

Component Analysis and Determination of Bioactivity of Oriental Therapeutic Drug for Hepatitis B (간염 치료제인 민간제제의 성분 분석 및 생리 활성 검색)

  • An oriental drug, named NP-S, traditionally used as a therapeutic agent for hepatitis B was characterized by separating into volatile and non-volatile fractions. The volatile fraction contained ammonia as determined by ammonia kit and eight peaks when it was analyzed by gas chromatography that are not identified yet. The elemental analysis showed that the non-volatile fraction contained 15.5% carbon, 4.8% hydrogen, 11% nitrogen, and 10% sulfur along with a few trace elements such as Cl, Si, Mg and Zn. NP-S contained 6.7% peptide, 0.3% free amino acids such as Lys, Pro, Arg, lie, Tyr, Phe, His, Thr and Ser and 0.1% inorganic phosphate. The drug showed antimicrobial activity against Salmonella typhimurium, StaPhylococcus aureus and Candida albieans and also had antioxidant activity when thiobarbituric acid reacting substances(TBARS) method was applied.

The Sensitivity Comparison of Immunodiagnostic Assays for Diagnosing Dengue Fever

  • Dengue fever is a vector borne disease caused by a dengue virus. It is an RNA virus of the family flaviviridae, with different serotypes. Herein, we report our attempt to carry out a sensitivity comparison of immunodiagnostic assays for dengue fever in dengue positive patients. Blood samples from 189 volunteers were collected. To determine the sensitivity of the NS1 test, two different types of tests-immunochromatographic tri-line test and rapid dengue test (RDT)-as well as IgM and IgG capture ELISA were performed. The result of RDT has shown that 59.7% of volunteers were IgM positive and 50.2% were IgG positive. Conversely, the results from capture ELISA shows 79.8% and 59.7% for IgM and IgG, respectively. The sensitivity of the capture ELISA test for IgM and IgG was higher than that of immunochromatographic tri-line rapid test, but the specificity was lower. Therefore, to confirm dengue fever, we recommend performing more detailed, investigative tests since a single test may not be sufficient.

Intrusion Detection for Black Hole and Gray Hole in MANETs

  • Black and gray hole attack is one kind of routing disturbing attacks and can bring great damage to the network. As a result, an efficient algorithm to detect black and gray attack is important. This paper demonstrate an adaptive approach to detecting black and gray hole attacks in ad hoc network based on a cross layer design. In network layer, we proposed a path-based method to overhear the next hop's action. This scheme does not send out extra control packets and saves the system resources of the detecting node. In MAC layer, a collision rate reporting system is established to estimate dynamic detecting threshold so as to lower the false positive rate under high network overload. We choose DSR protocol to test our algorithm and ns-2 as our simulation tool. Our experiment result verifies our theory: the average detection rate is above 90% and the false positive rate is below 10%. Moreover, the adaptive threshold strategy contributes to decrease the false positive rate.

Anti-Depressant Like Effect of Methyl Gallate Isolated from Acer barbinerve in Mice

  • In the present study, the anti-depressant like effect of methyl gallate (MG) isolated from the stem bark of Acer barbinerve was examined in ICR mice. Body weight (BDW) and blood glucose (BDG) levels significantly decreased in the repeated restraint stress (RRS) group (2 h/day for 14 days) compared to the no stress (NS) group. To examine the effect of MG on RS-induced BDW loss and hypoglycemia, MG (10 mg/kg) and the anti-depressant fluoxetine (10 mg/kg) were administered daily for 14 days. Orally administered MG and fluoxetine significantly attenuated the RS-induced BDW loss and hypoglycemia. Interestingly, MG administered mice showed increased BDG levels in the normal and glucose feeding condition. Chronic RS-subjected mice showed immobilized and depressed behaviors. The effect of MG on the depressed behaviors was evaluated using the tail-suspension test (TST) and the forced swimming test (FST). In both tests, RS-induced immobilized behaviors were significantly reversed in MG and fluoxetine administered groups. Taken together, MG significantly attenuated the RS-induced BDW loss, hypoglycemia, and depressed behaviors. Considering that decreased BDG levels (hypoglycemia) can cause depression, MG may exert its anti-depressant like effect by preventing hypoglycemia. Our results suggest that MG isolated from A. barbinerve can exert anti-depressant like effect, and could be used as a new and natural anti-depressant therapy.

  • 최근 기지국(Base Station)의 도움 없이 이동 단말기 간의 다중 무선 홉을 사용하여 송,수신자 간의 데이터 전송을 가능하게 하는 Ad-hoc 통신망에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 유선망과 달리 Ad-hoc 통신망은 무선 전송 매체를 사용하기 때문에 신호의 페이딩(Fading), 간섭(Interference), 잡음(Noise) 등에 의해 높은 BER(Bit Error Rate)이 발생하는 특징을 가지고 있다. 하지만, 현재 인터넷 상에서 광범위하게 사용되고 있는 전송 규약인 TCP(Transmission Control Protocol)는 유선망의 신뢰적인 전송 매체를 고려하여 개발된 프로토콜이기 때문에 TCP를 수정 없이 Ad-hoc 통신망에 적용할 경우 전송 성능이 저하되는 문제를 가지고 있다. 전송 성능이 저하되는 문제는 기존 TCP가 에러 발생의 원인을 혼잡에 의한 것으로 인식하고 불필요한 혼잡 제어를 하기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 송신자가 에러 발생 원인을 구별하고, 그에 따라 전송률을 조절함으로써 Ad-hoc 망에서의 TCP성능 향상을 위한 방법을 제시하였다. 또한 ns-2 시뮬레이터를 이용한 실험을 통해 TCP의 성능이 제안된 알고리즘에 의해 향상되었음을 확인하였다

  • IEEE 802.16 광대역 무선 접속망에서 QoS 보장을 위한 스케줄링 기법은 매우 중요하고 활발히 연구되고 있는 분야중 하나이다. 현재 IEEE 802.16 표준에 QoS 보장을 위한 메커니즘들이 정의되어 있지만 실제로 이것에 대한 시스템 구현은 설계자의 몫이다. 또한 기존에 제안 되었던 메커니즘은 각 커넥션들이 요구하는 서비스 품질을 만족시키지 못 하고 있다. 특히 딜레이에 민감한 rtPS 서비스 플로우에 대한 특성화된 스케줄링 매커니즘의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 IEEE 802.16 표준에 정의된 4가지 QoS Class들중 실시간 서비스 및 멀티미디어 서비스 클래스인 rtPS 클래스에 대하여 각각의 커넥션이 높은 QoS를 만족할 있도록 ACK 정보를 이용한 스케줄링을 제안한다. 최종적으로 NS-2 시뮬레이터를 이용한 실험결과를 통해 성능 향상 시키는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Power of a Defer Timer for the design of broadcasting protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have merged to become one of the most promising applications of wireless ad hoc networks. A defer timer has been used in some of existing network protocols to solve a set of problems in WSNs. We first investigate the use of a defer timer to fully take the advantage of it in WSNs. We demonstrate that by properly setting up the defer timers, many difficult issues in sensor networks, such as power limitation, the broadcast storm problem, and the construction of the virtual backbone, can be easily tackled with only the help of simple localized information at each node. In this paper, we present the power of a defer timer in the design of dominating set construction protocol for broadcasting. The ns 2 computer simulations are carried out for performance study.

  • This paper proposes a QoS policy for cellular networks which support the policy based network management scheme. The policy exploits the existing underlying DiffServ mechanism and the priority-based packet scheduler in order to provide the packets with different handling priority depending on their belonging traffic classes. The simulation results reveals the effectiveness of the proposed policy under the network congestion; it shows that the goodput of the real-time traffic is not affected at all in spite of the surge of the non real-time traffic.

Cross-layer Design of Private MAC with TH-BPPM and TH-BPAM in UWB Ad-hoc Networks

  • Ultra-wideband(UWB) is a killer technology for short-range wireless communications. In the past, most of the UWB research focused on physical layer but the unique characteristics of UWB make it different to design the upper layer protocols than conventional narrow band systems. Cross-layer protocols have received high attention for UWB networks. In this paper, we investigate the performance of two physical layer schemes: Time Hopping Binary Pulse Position Modulation(TH-BPPM) and Time Hopping Binary Pulse Amplitude Modulation (TH-BPAM) with proposed private MAC protocol for UWB ad-hoc networks. From pulse level to packet level simulation is done in network simulator ns-2 with realistic network environments for varying traffic load, mobility and network density. Our simulation result shows TH-BPAM outperforms TH-BPPM in high traffic load, mobility and dense network cases but in a low traffic load case identical performance is achieved.
