  • This paper deals with a real-time image based relighting system for tangible video teleconference. The proposed image based relighting system renders the extracted human object using the virtual environmental images. The proposed system can homogenize virtually the lighting environments of remote users on the video teleconference, or render the humans like they are in the virtual places. To realize the video teleconference, the paper obtains the 3D object models of users in real-time using the controlled lighting system. In this paper, we use single color camera and synchronized two directional flash lights. Proposed system generates pure shading images using on and off flash images subtraction. One pure shading reflectance map generates a directional normal map from multiplication of each reflectance map and basic normal vector map. Each directional basic normal map is generated by inner vector calculation of incident light vector and camera viewing vector. And the basic normal vector means a basis component of real surface normal vector. The proposed system enables the users to immerse video teleconference just as they are in the virtual environments.

  • When rendering polyhedral models, normal vectors at polygon vertices are necessary for smooth shading. The most commonly used technique of approximating a vertex normal vector by averaging normal vectors of faces around the vertex yields, however, different results on different tessellations Further, continuous deformation of models may cause abrupt discontinuous changes in normal vector directions. In this paper, a variation of the above technique is proposed to avoid these problems. Specifically, it uses a weighted average of normal vectors of faces around the vertex, where the weight of a face being the angular span of the two edges incident on the vertex.

  • Most of current watermarking algorithms for GIS vector data embed copyright information by means of modifying the coordinate values, which will do harm to its quality and accuracy. To preserve the fidelity of vector line data and protect its copyright at the same time, a lossless watermarking algorithm is proposed based on storage feature in this paper. Firstly, the superiority of embedding watermark based on storage feature is demonstrated theoretically and technically. Then, the basic concepts and operations on storage feature have been defined including length and angle of the polyline feature. In the process of embedding watermark, the watermark information is embedded into directions of polyline feature by the quantitative mechanism, while the positions of embedding watermark are determined by the feature length. Hence, the watermark can be extracted by the same geometric features without original data or watermark. Finally, experiments have been conducted to show that coordinate values remain unchanged after embedding watermark. Moreover, experimental results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the method.

  • Recently, a feature extraction method based on decision boundary has been proposed for neural networks. The method is based on the fact that all the features necessary to achieve the same classification accuracy as in the original space can be obtained from the vectors normal to decision boundaries. However, the normal vector was estimated numerically. resulting in inaccurate estimation and a long computational time. In this paper. we propose a new method to calculate the normal vector analytically. Experiments show that the proposed method provides a better performance.

  • Two PWM techniques using space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) are proposed for a two-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) driven by a two-phase eight-switch inverter. A two-phase motor with two symmetric stator windings is usually driven by a two-phase four-, six-, or eight-switch inverter. Compared with a four- and six-switch inverter, a two-phase eight-switch inverter can achieve larger power output. For two-phase motor drives, the SVPWM technique achieves more efficient DC bus voltage utilization and less harmonic distortion of the output voltage. For a two-phase PMSM fed by a two-phase eight-switch inverter under a normal SVPWM scheme, each of the eight PWM trigger signals for the inverter have to be changed twice in a cycle, causing a higher PWM frequency. Based on the normal SVPWM scheme, two effective SVPWM schemes are investigated in order to reduce the PWM frequency by rearranging four comparison values, while achieving the same function as the normal PWM scheme. A detailed explanation of the normal and two proposed SVPWM schemes is illustrated in the paper. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed schemes achieve a better steady performance with lower switching losses compared with the normal scheme.

  • Most of objects in computer graphics may be represented by a form of mesh. The exact computation of vertex normal vectors is essential for user to apply a variety of geometric operations to the mesh and get more realistic rendering results. Most of the previous algorithms used a weight which resembles a local geometric property of a vertex of a mesh such as the interior angle, the area, and so on. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for computing the normal vector of a vertex in meshes. Our method uses the conformal mapping which resembles synthetically the local geometric properties, and the mean value coordinates which may smoothly represent a relationship with the adjacent vertices. It may be confirmed by experiment that the normal vector of our algorithm is more exact than that of the previous methods.

  • In this paper, we present an analytical method for decision boundary feature extraction for neural networks. It has been shown that all the features necessary to achieve the same classification accuracy xxxas in the original space can be obtained from the vectors normal to decision boundaries. However, the vector normal to the decision boundary of a neural network has been calculated numerically using a gradient approximation. This process is time-consuming and the normal vector may be inaccurately estimated. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the performance of the previous decision boundary feature extraction for neural networks by accurately calculating the normal vector When the normal vectors are computed analytically, it is possible to reduce the processing time significantly and improve the performance of the previous implementation that employs numerical approximation.

  • Surface normal vector and surface velocity are very important parameters to simulate rolling processes precisely. In this study, Local displacement functions are constructed for each node on the contact surface and parameters are found by the least square fitting of displacement on the neighbor nodes. Deformation gradient tensor is calculated from the displacement function and surface normal vector and velocity also can be derived. Flat rolling simulation model is presented on the basis of the suggested contact scheme. Series of rolling process simulation are carried out and the results are compared with the experiments.
