A STUDY ON NORMAL NASAL RESPIRATORY RESISTANCE IN THE PREPUBERTAL CHILDREN (사춘기전(思春期前) 아동(兒童)의 정상(正常) 비강(鼻腔) 통기도(通氣度)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • This study was designed to analyze normal nasal respiratory resistance in prepubertal children. The subjects consisted of 30 prepubertal children (male: 15, female: 15). The mean age was 11.4 years in male children and 11.5 years in female children. The results were as follows: I. The normal nasal respiratory patency was lower than the normal values from RION corp. 2. The normal nasal respiratory airflow rates showed no sexual differences. And there were no differences between inspiration and expiration. 3. Before and after use of nasal decongestants, there were no significant differences of normal nasal respiratory airflow rates and after the administration of nasal decongestants, nasal respiratory patency manifested lower variability. 4. The normal nasal respiratory resistance without nasal decongestants at 150 Pascal in inspiration was $0.30Pa/cm^3/sec({\pm}0.07)$ and peak nasal inspiratory airflow rate was $1016.83cm^3/sec({\pm}223.89)$. 5. The normal nasal respiratory resistance with nasal decongestant at 150 Pascal in inspiration was $0.25Pa/cm^3/sec({\pm}0.05)$ and peak nasal inspiratory airflow rate was $1148.33cm^3/sec({\pm}234.29)$.

  • We calculate the normal fuzzy probability for trigonometric fuzzy numbers defined by trigonometric functions. And we study the normal probability for some operations of two trigonometric fuzzy numbers. Furthermore, we calculate the normal fuzzy probability for some fuzzy numbers generated by operations.

  • The likelihood distance for the joint distribution of two multivariate normal distributions with common covariance matrix is explicitly derived. It is useful for identifying outliers which do not follow the joint multivariate normal distribution with common covariance matrix. The likelihood distance derived here is a good ground for the use of a generalized Wilks statistic in influence analysis of two multivariate normal data.

  • The rebustness of one sample Chi-square test for multivariate normal mean vector is investigated when the multivariate normal population is mixed with another multivariate normal population with differing in the mean vector. Explicit expressions for the level of significance and power of the test are derived. Some numerical results indicate that the Chi-square test procedure is quite robust against slight mixtures of multivariate normal populations differing in location parameters.

  • In this study, we analyzed probability distribution of EMCs (Event Mean Concentration) of COD, TOC, T-N, T-P and SS from rice paddy fields and compared the mean values of observed EMCs and the median values of estimated EMCs ($EMC_{50}$) through probability distribution. The field monitoring was conducted during a period of four crop-years (from May 1, 2008, to September 30. 2011) in a rice cultivation area located in Emda-myun, Hampyeong gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea. Four probability distributions such as Normal, Log-normal, Gamma, and Weibull distribution were used to fit values of EMCs from rice paddy fields. Our results showed that the applicable probability distributions were Normal, Log-normal, and Gamma distribution for COD, and Normal, Log- Normal, Gamma and Weibull distribution for T-N, and Log-normal, Gamma and Weibull distribution for T-P and TOC, and Log-normal and Gamma distribution for SS. Log-normal and Gamma distributions were acceptable for EMCs of all water quality constituents(COD, TOC, T-N, T-P and SS). Meanwhile, mean value of observed COD was similar to median value estimated by the gamma distribution, and TOC, T-N, T-P, and SS were similar to median value estimated by log-normal distribution, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-obesity effects of crude saponin (CS) in Korean red ginseng (KRG) on rats fed a high fat (HF) diet. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into a normal diet group and a high-fat (HF) diet group. The HF diet group became obese from being fed a HF diet over five weeks. The normal diet group were fed a normal diet. Each CS group of the normal diet group and HF diet group was administered CS (200 mg/kg, i.p.) for three weeks, the control group of both types was administered normal saline (1ml/kg, i.p.) instead of CS. Each group had 5 rats. Results: After administration of CS, the body weight, food consumption, adipose tissues, and expression of appetite peptides such as leptin and neuropeptide-Y (NPY) were investigated in the HF diet group as well as the normal diet group. Administration of CS reduced body weight, food intake, and fat content in the HF and normal diet groups. After CS administration, NPY expression and leptin were lower in the HF diet group. Conclusions: Our results suggest that CS may be useful in the treatment of obesity, especially of type qixu (氣虛).

Antidiabetic and Antioxidant Effects of Chunggugjang Powder in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats (Streptozotocin으로 유발된 당뇨쥐에서 청국장 분말의 항당뇨 및 항산화 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary chungguajang powder on blood glucose level and hepatic activities of antioxidant enzymes in normal and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Sprague-Dawley male ratt ($200{\sim}220g$) of six groups including normal group fed normal diet (N), diabetic group fed normal diet (C), diabetic groups fed chunggugjang powder diet (DC-1%, DC-5%, DC-10%, DC-20%) were used for the experiments. Diabetes was induced by single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin as a dose of 70 mg/kg body weight. After 3 weeks the animals were sacrificed and hepatic activities of antioxidant enzymes, serum level of glucose and organ weight were evaluated. Food and water intakes were higher in diabetic groups than normal group. Body weight gain and food efficiency ratio were lower in diabetic groups. However, they were higher in chunggugjang diet groups (DC) than normal diet group (C). The serum glucose levels were significantly lower (p<0.05) in the diabetic groups fed chunggugjang diet (DC-10%, DC-20%) than diabetic group fed normal diet (C). Hepatic activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase were lower in diabetic groups than normal group and they were significantly lower in diabetic groups fed chunggugjang diet (DC-20%) compared to diabetic rats fed normal diet (p<0.05). In conclusion, these results indicated that chunggugjang powder would have antidiabetic and antioxidant effects in STZ-induced diabetic rats.

Comparison of Acoustic Characteristics of Vowel and Stops in 3, 4 year-old Normal Hearing Children According to Parents' Deafness: Preliminary Study (부모의 청각장애 유무에 따른 3, 4세 건청 자녀의 모음 및 파열음 조음의 음향음성학적 특성 비교: 예비연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how deaf parents influence the speech sounds of their normal-hearing children. Twenty four normal hearing children of deaf adults (CODA) and normal hearing parents (NORMAL) aged 3 to 4 participated in the study. The F1, F2, and the vowel triangle area in 7 vowels and the voice onset times (VOTs) and closure durations in 9 stops were measured. The results of the study are as follows. First, the F1 and F2 for all vowels were higher and the vowel triangle area was larger in CODA than in NORMAL although they were not statistically significant. Second, VOTs in $C_{stop}V$ for $/t^*/$ and in $VC_{stop}V$ for $/t^*/$, $/t^h/$, and $/k^h/$ were longer in CODA than in NORMAL. Most stops in CODA appeared to be longer VOTs for most phonemes. Third, the manner and place of articulation in stops did not make a difference between CODA and NORMAL in VOTs and closed durations. CODA does not demonstrate the speech characteristics of deaf people, however, they seem to speak differently than NORMAL, which means CODA might be influenced by a different linguistic environment created by deaf parents in some way.

Characteristics of Phoniatrics in Patients with Spastic Dysarthria (경직형 마비말장애의 음성언어의학적 특성)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the ability of coordination of the articulatory motor and the ability of control of the respiration and laryngeal for spastic dysarthria by acoustic analysis. The sustained of vowel /a/ and repetition of syllable /pa/ in 15 normal and 10 spastic dysarthria were measured. Multi-Speech, MDVP, and MSP were used for data recording and analysis. As a result, the mean DDK rate in the spastic group was significantly slower than in the normal. The maximum phonation time in the spastic group ($4.80{\pm}1.94$) was shorter than in the normal ($11.20{\pm}3.72$). The DDKjit in the spastic group was significantly higher than in the normal. The DDKsla was reduced in the spastic group. The mean syllable duration in the spastic group (146.2ms) was significantly longer than in the normal (75.8ms). The mean energy was reduced in the spastic group. The range of Fo was greater than in the normal. The frequency perturbation (jitter, vFo) and amplitude perturbation (shimmer, vAm) were higher than in the normal group. The NHR was higher than in the normal group. The parameters of this were significantly difference between the spastic dysarthria and the normal (p<0.05). Finally, the spastic dysarthria has short respiration, slow speech rate, and voice quality problem. The these results will help to establish a plan and the intervention of treatment.
