  • The purpose of this study was to understand the current trend with regard to the material of jeans and the making method of jeans pattern and the characteristics of washing processing through the overall production status of jeans in casual brands and to offer the basic data for producing the high efficient jeans. The results were as follows. According to the survey of production status of jeans in casual brands, the fabric mixture was highest in the order of non-stretch denim 100% cotton, stretch denim cotton/spandex mix and denim with $1{\sim}2%$ weft direction spandex mix. The most frequently used processing method for denim was in the order of normal finishing, mercerization finishing, soft finishing and pigment finishing. The most frequently used method of washing finishing for jeans was in the order of forming by embossing washing, bio stone washing, normal washing, bio washing, and bio stone bleach washing. The average shrinkage was higher on waist circumference and pants length of warp direction rather than hips circumference, thigh circumference, hem circumference of weft direction.

  • In the present study, effect of size and placement of cubic specimens on compressive strength of self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC) were considered. To do so, 81 specimens of different sizes (50 mm, 75 mm, 100 mm, and 150 mm) were prepared by using three different mixes of SCLC. Results of the cured specimens were then used in regression analyses to find predictive equations with regard to both the placement direction and the size. Test results showed that the strength ratio in cases in which the direction of loading and placement were parallel, were higher than those specimens, whose configurations were normal between loading and placement. In addition, strength ratios in SCLC mixes were slightly higher than those are for self-compacting normal weight concrete. In order to analyze the effect of size on compressive strength the conventional size effect law as well as the modified size effect law (MSEL) were used. Besides, the convergence criterion of nonlinear regression process of size effect study has been discussed. Analyses of the results showed that the unconstraint nonlinear regression in size effect study of SCLC mixes could lead to erroneous results.

  • The numerous application of scattered data include the modeling and visualization of physical phenomena. A tetrahedrization is one of pre-processing steps for 4-D surface interpolation. In this paper, various tetrahedrization methods are discussed including, Delaunay, least squares fitting, gradient difference, and jump in normal direction derivatives. This paper discriminates the characteristics of tetrahedrization through visualizing tetrahedral domain. This paper also, provides the tool that can compare and analyze the quality of 4-D space approximation over tetrahedral domain numerically, as well as graphically.

  • The relationship between electrical properties of YBaCuO superconductor and externally applied magnetic field was studied to develop a magnetic field apolarity sensor. The electrical resistance of the superconductor was increased by applying external magnetic field and even after removal of the magnetic field. The behavior was related to the magnetic flux trapped in the superconductor, which penetrates through the materials by the external magnetic field. Some portion of the superconductor was changed to a normal state by the trapped magnetic flux. The appearance of the normal state yielded to enhance the electrical resistance. Electrical characteristics of the superconductor with trapped magnetic flux were extremely sensitive to the external magnetic field and showed different responses depending on the direction of the magnetic field. Considering the observed properties of the superconductor with trapped magnetic flux, a magnetic sensor was fabricated to detect simultaneously both the intensity and the direction of the magnetic field.

  • To detect the insulator in the fault state on the electric poles, we first measured radiation sounds from normal state insulators and error state insulators in the anechoic chamber. We processed the signals in frequency domain to find the features with filter bank, narrow band and wide band analysis. So we could found two apparent results from their frequency spectrums - one was 120Hz harmonic components, the other was high average noise level than normal state ones. Then we also introduced a technique for the direction detection of the fault state insulator using the cross correlation from the three dimensional array microphones. To eliminate the noise signal from unexpected directions, we suggested the zero padding technique in cross correlation function. From these, we could conclude that acoustic fault detection techniques are useful of the detection of insulators' faults and the estimation of the direction of the fault state insulators.

  • The mechanical characteristics of three types of core with two-dimensional isotropic patterns-triangular, hexagonal and starcell-were studied in applications to sandwich structures. The Young's modulus and shear modulus were calculated for the three core types in the direction normal to the faces. The compressive buckling strength and shear buckling strength were calculated by modeling each cell wall of the core as a plate under compressive or shear load. To verify this model, tests were conducted on scaled specimens to measures the compressive buckling strength of each core. The bending flexibilities of the three cores were also studied. Compliances for the three cores were measured using biaxial flexural tests. The three isotropic core patterns exhibited distinct characteristics. In the direction normal to the faces, all three cores had the same stiffness. However, the starcell core exhibited high flexibility compared to the other cores, indicating potential for application to curved sandwich structures.

  • Molecular dynamics simulations have been carried out to investigate the scattering and penetration properties of hydrogen ions with the normal incident angle to Ni (100) surface. The initial kinetic energies of hydrogen ions range from 100 to 1,600 eV. The simulation results are used to assess the applicabilities of theoretical predictions based on the binary collision approximation, and, in the high kinetic regime, theoretical results for scattering energies were shown to he a good agreement with molecular simulations. The angle dependencies on both scattering and penetration distributions were found in the longitudinal direction, but not in the azimuthal direction except for the high kinetic energy of 1,600 eV.

  • The subsurface stress field caused by both normal loads and tangential loads has been evaluated using the rectangular patch solution. The effect of tangential loading on the subsurface stress field has been investigated in detail for both the cylinder-on-cylinder contact and a spur gear teeth contact. For the cylinder-on-cylinder contact, the subsurface stress fields are moved more to the direction of tangential loads and the positions where the maximum stress occur are getting closer to the surface with the increasing tangential loads. The subsurface stress fields of the gear teeth contact are expanded more widely to the direction of tangential loads with the increasing tangential loads. The friction coefficient of a gear teeth contact is low because they are operated in a lubricated condition, and therefore surface tractions in the EHL condition hardly affect on the subsurface stress field.

  • The fatigue crack growth behavior of high strength X80 pipeline steel was investigated with compact tension specimens that crack growth directions were aligned either parallel or normal to the rolling direction of the pipeline. Also, the fatigue crack growth rates for welded joint of X80 pipeline steel were investigated with compact tension specimens that crack growth directions were aligned either parallel or normal to the welding line. The experimental results indicated the fatigue crack growth behavior was markedly different in three zones, weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal of welded joints. There was a trend toward increment in the fatigue life of weld metal and heat affected zone as compared with the X80 pipeline steel.

  • This paper concerns dynamics of a wheel-axle set on a tangent track which was already published in a book titled "Dynamics of Railway Vehicle Systems" authored by Garg and Dukkipati [1], pointing out several missing terms and erroneous parts in the derived expressions on the conventional governing equations of motion. It is indicated that the x-direction components of normal forces at left and right wheel-rail contact points in the equilibrium axis were missed. Another point is that in deriving the creepages the disturbed velocity components in both x and y directions in the equilibrium axis should not be disregarded in the first term of the numerators. When considering the creepage in the y direction in the body coordinate system, the second term of lateral velocity at the contact point also cannot be neglected. Besides, the hyper-assumptions in the final expressions of vertical components of normal forces at left and right wheel-rail contact points have been recovered in reaching the final stage of analytical model development. Finally it is noteworthy that the process of applying creep theory is deemed to contain a little bit inconsistencies and ambiguities to be clear.
