Composite action of concrete-filled double circular steel tubular stub columns

  • This paper presents a combined numerical, experimental, and theoretical study on the behavior of the concrete-filled double circular steel tubular (CFDT) stub columns under axial compressive loading. Four groups of stub column specimens were tested in this study to find out the effects of the concrete strength, steel ratio and diameter ratio on the mechanical behavior of CFDT stub columns. Nonlinear finite element (FE) models were also established to study the stresses of different components in the CFDT stub columns. The change of axial and transverse stresses in the internal and external steel tubes, as well as the change of axial stress in the concrete sandwich and concrete core, respectively, was thoroughly investigated for different CFDT stub columns with the same steel ratio. The influence of inner-to-outer diameter ratio and steel ratio on the ultimate bearing capacity of CFDT stub columns was identified, and a reasonable section configuration with proper inner-to-outer diameter ratio and steel ratio was proposed. Furthermore, a practical formula for predicting the ultimate bearing capacity was proposed based on the ultimate equilibrium principle. The predicted results showed satisfactory agreement with both experimental and numerical results, indicating that the proposed formula is applicable for design purposes.

Design and Analysis of High-Speed Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Ground Directional Rectifying Control System

  • The full nonlinear equations of an unmanned aerial vehicle ground taxiing mathematical dynamic model are built based on a type of unmanned aerial vehicle data in LMS Virtual.Lab Motion. The flexible landing gear model is considered to make the aircraft ground motion more accurate. The electric braking control system is established in MATLAB/Simulink and the experiment of it verifies that the electric braking model with the pressure sensor is fitted well with the actual braking mechanism and it ensures the braking response speediness. The direction rectification control law combining the differential brake and the rudder with 30% anti-skid brake is built to improve the directional stability. Two other rectifying control laws are demonstrated to compare with the designed control law to verify that the designed control is of high directional stability and high braking efficiency. The lateral displacement increases by 445.45% with poor rectification performance under the only rudder rectifying control relative to the designed control law. The braking distance rises by 36m and the braking frequency increases by 85.71% under the control law without anti-skid brake. Different landing conditions are simulated to verify the good robustness of the designed rectifying control.

  • 본 논문은 병렬 캐패시터와 고 임피던스 선로 그리고 CRLH-TLs (Composite Right/Left-Handed Transmission Lines)을 이용한 소형화와 대역폭 확장을 한 링 하이브리드 커플러 설계에 대한 것이다. 소형화를 위해 전송 선로의 길이를 줄이는 방법은 전송선로를 고 임피던스 선로와 병렬 캐패시터로 대체하였고, 또한 대역폭 향상을 위해서는 직렬 캐패시터와 병렬 인덕터로 구성된 CRLH 매타 재질의 비선형적인 위상특성을 이용하였다. 이렇게 제작된 링 하이브리드 커플러는 기존 커플러와 비교해서 크기는 10% 이하로 줄였으며, 대역폭은 60% 이상 확장되었음을 제시하였다.

Stud reinforcement in beam-column joints under seismic loads

  • Current codes recommend large amounts of shear reinforcement for reinforced concrete beam-column joints that causes significant bar congestion. Increase in congestion of shear reinforcement in joint core (connection zone), leads to increase accomplishment problems. The congestion may also lead to diameter limitations on the beam bars relative to the joint dimensions. Using double headed studs instead of conventional closed hoops in reinforced concrete beam-column joints reduces congestion and ensures easier assembly of the reinforcing cage. The purpose of this research is evaluating the efficiency of the proposed reinforcement. In this way, 10 groups of exterior beam-column joints are modeled. Each group includes 7 specimens by different reinforcing details in their joint core. All specimens are modeled by using of ABAQUS and analyzed subjected to cyclic loading. After verification of analytical modeling with an experimental specimen, 3D nonlinear specimens are modeled and analyzed. Then, the effect of amount and arrangement of headed studs on ductility, performance, ultimate strength and energy absorption has been studied. Based on the results, all joints reinforced with double headed studs represent better performance compared with the joints without shear transverse reinforcement in joints core. The behavior of the former is close to joints reinforced with closed hoops and cross ties according to the seismic design codes. By adjusting the arrangement of double-headed studs, the decrease in ductility, performance, ultimate moment resistant and energy absorption reduce to 2.61%, 0.90%, 0.90% and 1.66% respectively compared with the joints reinforced by closed hoops on the average. Since the use of headed studs reduces accomplishment problems, these amounts are negligible. Therefore, use of double-headed studs has proved to be a viable option for reinforcing exterior beam-column joints.

Elastic-plastic formulation for concrete encased sections interaction diagram tracing

  • Composite sections design consists on checking that the point defined by axial load and bending moment keeps included within the surface enclosed by the section interaction curve. Eurocode 4 suggests a method for tracing this diagram based on the plastic stress distribution method. However curves obtained according to this criterion overvalue concrete encased sections bearing capacity, especially when axial force comes with high bending moment values, so a correction factor is required. This article proposes a method for tracing this diagram based on the strain compatibility method. When stresses on the section are integrated by considering the Navier hypothesis, the use of the materials nonlinear constitutive equations provides curves much more adjusted to reality. This process requires the use of rather complex software which might reveal as too complex for practitioners. Preserving the same criteria of an elastic-plastic stress distribution, this article presents alternative expressions to obtain the failure internal forces in five significant points of the interaction diagram having considered five different positions of the neutral axis. These expressions are simply enough for their practical application. Concordance of curves traced strictly relying on these five points with those obtained by computer assisted stress integration considering the strain compatibility method and even with Eurocode 4 weighted curves will be presented for three different cross-sections and two different concrete strengths, revealing very good results.

Influence of bi-directional seismic pounding on the inelastic demand distribution of three adjacent multi-storey R/C buildings

  • Interaction between closely-spaced buildings subject to earthquake induced strong ground motions, termed in the literature as "seismic pounding", occurs commonly during major seismic events in contemporary congested urban environments. Seismic pounding is not taken into account by current codes of practice and is rarely considered in practice at the design stage of new buildings constructed "in contact" with existing ones. Thus far, limited research work has been devoted to quantify the influence of slab-to-slab pounding on the inelastic seismic demands at critical locations of structural members in adjacent structures that are not aligned in series. In this respect, this paper considers a typical case study of a "new" reinforced concrete (R/C) EC8-compliant, torsionally sensitive, 7-story corner building constructed within a block, in bi-lateral contact with two existing R/C 5-story structures with same height floors. A non-linear local plasticity numerical model is developed and a series of non-linear time-history analyses is undertaken considering the corner building "in isolation" from the existing ones (no-pounding case), and in combination with the existing ones (pounding case). Numerical results are reported in terms of averages of ratios of peak inelastic rotation demands at all structural elements (beams, columns, shear walls) at each storey. It is shown that seismic pounding reduces on average the inelastic demands of the structural members at the lower floors of the 7-story building. However, the discrepancy in structural response of the entire block due to torsion-induced, bi-directionally seismic pounding is substantial as a result of the complex nonlinear dynamics of the coupled building block system.

전압제어 유전체 공진 발진기의 저위상잡음 설계 및 신뢰도 분석 (A Low Phase Noise Design of Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator and Reliability Analysis)

  • 본 논문에서는 낮은 위상잡음을 갖는 전압제어 유전체 공진 발진기를 비선형 설계하였으며 그 위상잡음을 Lesson식과 비교하여 잘 일치함을 확인하였다. 전압제어 유전체 공진 발진기의 위상잡음을 개선하기 위하여 유전체 공진기와 결합하는 마이크로스트립 라인으로 고임피던스 변환기를 이용함으로써 공진회로의 Q값이 그대로 능동소자에 전달되도록 하였다. 전압제어 유전체 공진 발진기의 고신뢰성을 확보하기 위해 worst case 해석과 part stress 해석을 수행하였으며 이를 바탕으로 신뢰도 분석을 수행하여 위성중계기의 EOL(End of Life)에서 전압제어 유전체 공진 발진기가 정상적으로 동작할 수 있는 확률을 예측하였다. 제작된 전압제어 유전체 공진 발진기는 0-l2V의 제어전압에서 0.56MHz/V의 튜닝계수를 가지고 있으며 136mw의 DC 전력을 소모한다. 또한 -116.3dBc/Hz (a)100KHz와 -94.18dBc1Hz (a)10KHz의 우수한 위상잡음 특성과 7.33dBm 이상의 출력특성을 얻었다.

고성능 콘크리트의 활용을 위한 신경망의 적용 (Applications of Artificial Neural Networks for Using High Performance Concrete)

  • 콘크리트와 철은 건설에서 필수적인 구조 재료이다. 그러나, 철과 달리 콘크리트는 하나의 재료가 아니라 많은 물질들로 구성된 복합재료이며, 구성 재료, 현장 환경, 그리고 기술자의 숙련도 등에 의해 많은 영향을 받는다. 그리고 유동성과 공기량 등 즉시 알 수 있는 물성도 있지만 강도나 내구성 같이 시간이 지나야 알 수 있는 특성도 존재하므로 콘크리트의 배합은 전문가의 경험에 많이 의존해 왔다. 하지만, 콘크리트도 고성능화 되는 시점에서 첨가 재료도 늘어나고 기존의 자료도 부족하기 때문에 새로운 기법이 필요한 때이다. 신경망은 복잡한 비선형 문제를 처리하는 인간의 두뇌를 모방한 모델로 패턴 인식 및 분류, 예측 등의 분야에서 많이 사용되고 있다 여기서는 그 중에서 역전파 알고리즘과 광선형 기저 함수망 모형이 사용되었다. 여덟가지 재료(물, 시멘트, 잔골재, 굵은 골재, 플라이 애쉬, 실리카 흄, 유동화제, 그리고 공기연행제)가 배합에 사용되었으며, 압축강도와 슬럼프, 공기량을 물성으로 사용하였다. 결과적으로 신경망은 고성능 콘크리트치 배합 및 물성 예측 등 활용에 유용하게 사용될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

피치동기 다중 스펙트럼을 이용한 청각보철장치의 음성신호처리 및 DSP 시스템 설계 (Speech Signal Processing using Pitch Synchronous Multi-Spectra and DSP System Design in Cochlear Implant)

  • 본 연구에서는 내이의 손상에 의한 감각성 난청환자들의 청력회복을 위한 청각보철장치내의 가장 중요한 부분인 어음발췌기의 음성신호처리 알고리즘 및 하드웨어를 개발하였다. 증폭, 저역통과 필터, AGC의 역할을 수행하는 외이 및 중이는 아날로그 시스템으로 모델링하였고, 시간 지연된 다중 필터 및 변환기의 역할을 수행하는 내이는 실시간 처리가 가능한 고속 DSP 회로로 구현되었다. 특히 내이의 기저막특성은 비선형 자중 필터뱅크로 모델링한후, 피치와 동기화된 다중 스펙트럼을 출력할 수 있는 (pitch-synchronous multi-spectra : PSMS) 전략을 이용함으로서 청각계의 tonotopy와 periodicity를 만족시킬 수 있었다. 또한 주요, 음성신호처리의 대부분이 S/W로 수행되므로 다양한 실험을 위한 시스템 수정이 용이하며, C 언어로 프로그램이 개발되었기 때문에 다른 프로세스를 사용하는 H/W에도 쉽게 이식될 수 있다는 장점을 가진다.

IEEE 802.11a 규격을 만족하는 5GHz 대역 무선 랜용 RF 모듈의 설계, 제작과 성능 평가 (Design, fabrication, and evaluation of RF module in compliance with the IEEE 802.11a standard for 5GHz-band Wireless-LAN applications)

  • IEEE 802.11a 무선 랜 규격을 만족하는 RF 송수신기를 모듈의 형태로 제작하고 성능을 평가하였다. 주파수 변환 방식은 520MHz의 중간 주파수를 갖는 헤테로다인 구조를 채택하였다. 측정 결과 수신기는 잡음지수 5dB, 최대 이득 70dB, 그리고 61dB의 넓은 입력 동작 범위를 얻었다. 또한 중간 주파수 대역의 채널 선정 필터는 SAW 필터를 채용하여 채널간의 간섭 잡음을 최소화하였다. 송신기는 규격에 정의된 정격 출력을 만족하는 동시에 34dBm의 출력 P1dB를 가져 낮은 대역, 중간 대역에 대해 각각 18dB, 11dB의 출력 여유분을 보유함으로써 직교 주파수 분할 다중(OFDM) 변조방식의 큰 평균대비 최고 출력 비율에 대응하였다.
