Recently, mesoporous metallic materials are becoming more and more important in various applications like catalysts, electrochemical detectors, batteries, and fuel cells because of their high surface area. Among the various methods for manufacturing mesoporous structure, surfactant templating method followed by electroplating has been tried in this study. A mesoporous metallic film was prepared by electrodeposition from electroplating solution mixed with surfactant template. Nonionic type lyotropic liquid crystalline surfactant, Brij56, and nickel acetate based solution were selected as a template material and electroplating solution, respectively. To determine the content of surfactant forming a hexagonal column structure, the phase diagram of electroplating solution and surfactant mixture has been exploited by polarized optical microscopy equipped with heating and cooling stage. Nickel films were electroplated on Cu foil by stepwise potential input method to alleviate the concentration polarization occurred during the electroplating process. TEM and XRD analyses were performed to characterize the size and shape of mesostructures in manufactured nickel films, and electrochemical characterization was also carried out using cyclic voltammetry.

In this study, the functional property as a super abrasive material was secured for CBN powder by the electroless Ni-P plating on the surface of the particle. The plating solution has been prepared to control the surface morphology by regulating surfactants and process conditions. The effects of processing parameters on the surface morphology of CBN powder was discussed. The results are summarized as follows; A stable plating tendency was achieved from 1 hour after quantitatively dropping reducing agent. It was observed that more than 50% of the weight gain was obtained by Ni-P coating on the surface of CBN super abrasive powder. The morphology of the Ni-P coating layer is consisted of botryoidal and spiky type and it could be controlled by regulating processing parameters. Superior characteristic in terms of surface morphology was found in the nonionic surfactant XL-80N. It was found that XL-80N considerably decreased surface tension of CBN powder and Ni-P alloy surface then enhance wettability as well as plating rate. Metal coated CBN powder as a raw material of resin bond wheel has been developed through this investigation.

The molecular areas and the interfacial tension behavior of ten nonionic surfactants, i.e., Span 20 and Tween 20, 40, 60. 80, 21, 61, 81, 65, & 85 are tested to assay their effects on the wetting and liquid retention properties of hydrophilic and hydrophobic fibrous materials. The molecular areas at water/air interface are derived from Gibbs’adsorption equations. The following conclusions are drawn from the results: 1) Span 20 is efficient in lowering the interfacial tension and effective in adsorption at the water/air interface, resulting in the low interfacial tension at critical micelle concentration (${\gamma}$$_{CMC}$) and a small molecular area($\omega$), 2) when the hydrophiles of the surfactants are constant, $\omega$’s increase as hydrophobe carbon numbers of the surfactants increase, 3) when the hydrophobes are constant, ${\gamma}$$_{CMC}$’s and $\omega$’s increase as the hydrophile ethylene oxide units increase, indicating effectiveness and efficiency is parallel in this case, 4) the ethylene oxide unit length as a hydrophile has greater influence on u than the hydrophobe chain length.han the hydrophobe chain length.gth.

This study was conducted to prepare acrylic removable protective coatings by emulsion polymerization. Monomers used were n-butyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, butyl methacrylate. Emulsifiers used were sodium lauryl sulfate and polyoxyethylene lauryl ether, which are an anionic emulsifier and a nonionic emulsifier respectively. Potassium persulfate was used as an initiator and polyvinyl alcohol was used as a stabilizer. Emulsion polymerization was carried out in a semi-batch reactor at $70^{\circ}C$ and agitation speed was 200 rpm. Tensile strength, extension, peel strength, viscosity, and solid contents of the synthesized coatings were examined. The coatings prepared with BA:AN = 60:20 (in weight ratio) satisfied the standard for automobile in terms of extension and peel strength. When the concentration of BMA was in a range of $18{\sim}23$ wt%, the prepared coatings satisfied the standard for automobile in terms of peel strength and water resistance.
Extravasation of contrast material is a not infrequent complication of enhanced imaging studies and large volume extravasation may result in severe damage. Subcutaneous extravasation of the radiographic contrast medium is one of the complications of the contrast medium-enhanced procedures. Automated power injectors enable the contrast material to be delivered at a uniform high-flow-rate and as a nonfragmented bolus, and this is essential for many contrast material enhanced CT(computed tomography) applications. The major risk associated with the use of automated power injectors is the well known complication of contrast material extravasation at the injection site. Automated injection of CT contrast material can produce the compartment syndrome. Selection of the nonionic contrast material after careful evaluation of the intravenous administration site and monitoring of the patient during the use of a mechanical power injector may help minimize or prevent extravasation injuries. Early identification is important and conservative management is effective in most cases. Prevention of these injuries with the education of radiological technologist remains the ultimate aim.
The phase behavior of sucrose monopalmitate/alkanol/water ternary system was investigated. According to compositions of three components ranging from micellar(or inverse micellar) solution up to various lyotropic liquid crystalline(LC) phase, each texture of the separated phases was identified by crossed polarizers equipped with a camera whose stage was connected to a thermostatic circulator. As the carbon atom number in alkanol of the polar oily substance increases, patterns of the various LC phases were also observed hexanol
The effect of mineral oil treatment in Burley 21 tobacco field on the control of potato virus Y(PVY-VN) mostly transmitted by green peach apid(Myzus persicae Sulzer) in nature was studied and the virus infection in some plants including potato, pepper, bramble, radish, etc near the tobacco fields as a virus infection source was tested by capillary tube precipitatioin test with PVY-antibody and bioassay in Xanthi-nc tobacco. The main source of PVY-VN infection in tobacco field in korea was potato(ca. 40% of test plants infected). Pepper and bramble were also infected by PVY-VN. The control level of PVY-VN infection by treatment of 0.75% liquid mineral oil with 3 % nonionic emulsifier to the plants was 84.8 % in case of the artificial transfection with a infected apterous aphid in laboratory. However, the reduction of PVY-VN disease severity in tobacco fields treated with mineral oil at late June was only 35.5%. These results suggest that mineral oil treatment is not so effective for the protection of aphid-born virus(PVY - VN) infection in tobacco fields.

Broad, mercerized broad, mercerized twill cotton fabrics and rayon fabric were treated with cellulase for 30~480 minutes at different temperature, concentration, time, and also treating methods such as continuously-treated or repeatedly-treated, and dyed with two direct dyes before or after enzyme treatment. From the experimental result by treating under the various conditions above, it was obtained that the weight loss increased more in thin fabric than thick one. In addition, it was considered that the treatment in 5$0^{\circ}C$ for 240 minutes brought about the ideal weight loss and flexible hand of the specimens. For both broad and mercerized broad, repeated treatment showed more weight loss than continuous. Direct dye on cotton fabric apparently inhibited hydrolysis. Ionic surfactants showed the inhibition effect of the catalytic hydrolysis of enzyme, on the other hand, nonionic surfactant did not.
Amiodarone hydrochloride is an antiarrhythmic agent which has low aqueous solubility and presents bioavailability problem. These properties are a challenge for the pharmaceutical industry. Inclusion of lipophilic compound in the hydrophobic core of micelles, i.e. self-assembled structures based on surfactants in aqueous solution, is one way of increasing the solubility. Intravenous formulation of amiodarone hydrochloride with polysorbate 80 as a detergent and benzyl alcohol as a co-solvent is used in medical practice. This paper aimed to study the effect of polysorbate 80 and benzyl alcohol on the water solubility of amiodarone hydrochloride. Formation of mixed micelles consisting of nonionic surfactant polysorbate 80 and cationic amiodarone with chloride counterion was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. Benzyl alcohol was found to decrease the stability of the mixed micelles and lead to crystallization of amiodarone hydrochloride. The greatest amounts of crystals formed at 4℃ for 30 days in the model drug solutions with polysorbate 80 concentrations of 100.1 mg/mL and 97.9 mg/mL. A change of the polysorbate 80 concentration and avoidance the use of benzyl alcohol are recommended to improve the stability of the parenteral dosage form. These results can open new perspectives in the optimization of amiodarone intravenous formulations.
In order to enhance the gene delivery efficiency and decrease the cytotoxicity of polyplexes, we synthesized Solutol-g-PEI by conjugating polyethyleneimine (PEI) to Solutol (polyoxyethylene (10) stearate), and evaluated its efficiency as a possible nonviral gene carrier candidate. Structural analysis of synthesized polymer was performed by using $^1H$-NMR. Gel retardation assay, particle sizes and zeta potential measurement confirmed that the new gene carrier formed a compact complex with plasmid DNA. The complexes were smaller than 150 nm, which implicated its potential for intracellular delivery. It showed lower cytotoxicity in three different cell lines (Hela, MCF-7, and HepG2) than PEI 25 kDa. pGL3-lus was used as a reporter gene, and the transfection efficiency was in vitro measured in Hela cells. Solutol-g-PEI showed much higher transfection efficiency than unmodified PEI 25 kDa.
