보일러튜브 용접부 비파괴검사를 위한 컴퓨터화 방사선투과시험 적용 연구 (Application of Computed Radiography for Nondestructive Testing of Boiler Tube Weldments)

  • A steam generator (boiler) in thermal power plants, consisting of more than 30,000 parts and components, can lead to the plant shutdown with damage to even the small part of the components; esp., like weld failures on boiler tubes. Consequently it is greatly demanded to improve the quality of the weld on the boiler tube for the stable operation of the power plants. Because of the feature of the welding, which is done past by melting the work pieces and adding a filler material that cools to become a strong coalescence, there is a great possibility that weld failures take place. As a result, it is regulated to make a non-destructive testing, like radiography test, to detect defects and flaws in the weld. The current film radiography test provides a lower image quality exceeding 2.0% of a basic quality level for a penetrameter, it is very likely to fail to detect micro defect. As a result, the prevention for the boiler tube failure has not been made effectively. In this study, computed radiography technology has been applied as a digital radiography test to the boiler tube weld, and Se-75 radiation source was used to improve the image quality, instead of Ir-192 source. As a result of this study, it is proven to save the time and cost for test and to enhance the quality level of penetrameter penetrating image, which enables to upgrade the quality of radiography test to the boiler tube weld.

Detection of tension force reduction in a post-tensioning tendon using pulsed-eddy-current measurement

  • Post-tensioning (PT) tendons are commonly used for the assembly of modularized concrete members, and tension is applied to the tendons during construction to facilitate the integrated behavior of the members. However, the tension in a PT tendon decreases over time due to steel corrosion and concrete creep, and consequently, the stress on the anchor head that secures the PT tendon also diminishes. This study proposes an automatic detection system to identify tension reduction in a PT tendon using pulsed-eddy-current (PEC) measurement. An eddy-current sensor is installed on the surface of the steel anchor head. The sensor creates a pulsed excitation to the driving coil and measures the resulting PEC response using the pick-up coil. The basic premise is that the tension reduction of a PT tendon results in stress reduction on the anchor head surface and a change in the PEC intensity measured by the pick-up coil. Thus, PEC measurement is used to detect the reduction of the anchor head stress and consequently the reduction of the PT tendon force below a certain threshold value. The advantages of the proposed PEC-based tension-reduction-detection (PTRD) system are (1) a low-cost (< $ 30), low-power (< 2 Watts) sensor, (2) a short inspection time (< 10 seconds), (3) high reliability and (4) the potential for embedded sensing. A 3.3 m long full-scale monostrand PT tendon was used to evaluate the performance of the proposed PTRD system. The PT tendon was tensioned to 180 kN using a custom universal tensile machine, and the tension was decreased to 0 kN at 20 kN intervals. At each tension, the PEC responses were measured, and tension reduction was successfully detected.

Fracture behaviors of tunnel lining caused by multi-factors: A case study

  • The cracking and spalling caused by fracture of concrete lining have adverse impacts on serviceability and durability of the tunnel, and the subsequent maintenance work for damaged structure needs to be specific to the damaging causes. In this paper, a particular case study of an operational tunnel structure is presented for the serious cracking and spalling behaviours of concrete lining, focusing on the multi-factors inducing lining failure. An integrated field investigation is implemented to characterize the spatial distribution of damages and detailed site situations. According to results of nondestructive inspection, insufficient lining thickness and cavity behind lining are the coupled-inducement of lining failure bahaviors. To further understanding of the lining structure performance influenced by these multiple construction deficiencies, a reliable numerical simulation based on extended finite element method (XFEM) is performed by using the finite element software. The numerical model with 112 m longitudinal calculation, 100 m vertical calculation and 43 m vertical depth, and the concrete lining with 1450 solid elements are set enrichment shape function for the aim of simulating cracking behavior. The numerical simulation responses are essentially in accordance with the actual lining damaging forms, especially including a complete evolutionary process of lining spalling. This work demonstrates that the serious lining damaging behaviors are directly caused by a combination of insufficient thickness lining and cavity around the surrounding rocks. Ultimately, specific maintenance work is design based on the construction deficiencies, and that is confirmed as an efficient, time-saving and safe maintenance method in the operational railway tunnel.

조선강재의 최적 용접조건에 관한 연구 (Study on Optimal Welding Condition for Shipbuilding Steel Materials)

  • In this study, the steel material for shipbuilding(LR-A class) was used, and FCAW was taken advantage of 3G attitude and they are welded by different welding ways. As a result of analyzing wave with welding monitoring system, the stable values are obtained which are the first floor(electronic current 164~182 A, voltage 24 V), the second floor(electronic current 174~190 A, voltage 22~25 V), the third floor(electronic current 158~188 A, voltage 22~25 V), and fourth floor(electronic current 172~184 A, voltage 22~25 V), at this time, the stable wave standard deviation and changing coefficient could be obtained. When the welding testing through nondestructive inspection was analyzed know defect of welding, there was no defect of welding in A, D, E, but some porosities in B, and slag conclusion near the surface in C, because the length of arc was not accurate, and the electronic current and voltage was not stable. After observing the change of heat affect zone through micro testing, each organization of floor formed as Grain Refinement, so welding part was fine, the distance of heat affect zone is getting wider up to change the values of the electronic current and voltage. As a result of degree of hardness testing, the hardness orders were the heat affect zone(HAZ), Welding Zone(WZ), and Base Metal(BM). When the distribution of degree of hardness is observed. B is the highest degree of hardness The reason why heat effect zone is higher than welding zone and base metal, welding zone is boiled over melting point($1539^{\circ}C$) and it starts to melt after the result of analysis through metal microscope, so we can know that delicate tissue is created at the welding zone. Therefore, in order to get the optimal conditions of the welding, the proper current of the welding and voltage is needed. Furthermore the precise work of welding is required.

차량탑재형 고소작업대의 재해분석을 통한 취약 구조부의 안전성 향상 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Safety Improvement of Structural Weakness Using Accident Analysis for Vehicle-Mounted MEWP)

  • The findings were summarized as follows. The safety check by manufacturer showed that 6 of 13 companies are over the average occurrence of defects. It was expected that there would be a difference between manufacturing technology capability and production system of each manufacturer. Consequently, manufacturers should institutionally improve and strengthen certification items for the upward standardization of safety certification before factory. Second, the safety check by year showed that the results of this study accord with those of previous studies on defect time. Consequently, manufacturers should classify the 3-year-old equipment for vehicle-mounted MEWP into a special check subject to do a nondestructive test according to proven results, and also reflect the test in a safety test system to do regular preventive activities of equipment defects. Third, the safety check by part showed that the boom and outrigger parts of vehicle-mounted MEWP have the most defects. Stress concentration resulted in defects as the boom part was most frequently operated in the structural parts for a real work. To prevent this, it is suitable to improve the hardness of boom materials. The outrigger part needs improvement in safety devices with materials. As an outrigger supports the overturning moment of equipment, it is most affected by its load based on the operating radius, resulting in fatigue crack.

MFL을 이용한 천연가스 배관용 비파괴 검사장비 개발에 관한 연구 (Study for Development of Nondestructive Inspection Device in Natural Gas Pipeline Using MFL Technology)

  • 본 논문에서는 자기해석을 기초로 배관의 결함을 검사할 수 있는 자기인가장치를 개발하져다. 자기인가장치는 영구자석(Nd-Fe-B계열) 및 Linear Hall Effect 센서를 이용하여 배관을 충분히 자화시킬 수 있도록 설계되었으며, 센서 어레이는 8인치 크기로 설계, 제작하였다. 제작된 자기인가장치는 5개의 yoke와 45개의 Linear Hall Effect 센서로 구성된다. 자기회로법을 이용하여 설계된 자기장 인가장치가 배관을 포화시킬 수 있는가를 확인하였고. 또한 8인치 탄소강관(두께 : 5.85mm)에 인공 결함을 제작하여 누설 자속을 측정하였다. 시험 배관에 만들어진 두께 $10\%{\~}80\%$의 결함은 제작된 MFL 모듈을 이용하여 모두 검출하였으며 결함의 깊이가 가장 얇은 0.5mm까지 검출이 가능함을 확인하였다.

Feasibility Study on the Utilization of EMAT Technology for In-line Inspection of Gas Pipeline

  • If gas is leaking out of gas pipelines, it could cause a huge explosion. Accordingly, it is important to ensure the integrity of gas pipelines. Traditionally, over the years, gas-operating companies have used the ILI system, which is based on axial magnetic flux leakage (MFL), to inspect the gas pipelines. Relatively, there is a low probability of detection (POD) for the axial defects with the axial MFL-based ILI. To prevent the buried pipeline from corrosion, it requires a protective coating. In addition to the potential damage to the coating by environmental factors and external forces, there could be defects on the damaged coating area. Thus, it is essential that nondestructive evaluation methods for detecting axial defects (axial cracks, axial groove) and damaged coating be developed. In this study, an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) sensor was designed and fabricated for detecting axial defects and coating disbondment. In order to validate the performances of the developed EMAT sensor, experiments were performed with specimens from axial cracks, axial grooves, and coating disbondment. The experimental results showed that the developed EMAT sensor could detect not only the axial cracks (minimum 5% depth of wall thickness) and axial grooves (minimum 10% depth of wall thickness), but also the coating disbondment.

비접촉식 화학작용제 탐지용 라만 분광계를 위한 Denoising Autoencoder 기반 잡음제거 기술 (Denoising Autoencoder based Noise Reduction Technique for Raman Spectrometers for Standoff Detection of Chemical Warfare Agents)

  • Raman spectrometers are studied and developed for the military purposes because of their nondestructive inspection capability to capture unique spectral features induced by molecular structures of colorless and odorless chemical warfare agents(CWAs) in any phase. Raman spectrometers often suffer from random noise caused by their detector inherent noise, background signal, etc. Thus, reducing the random noise in a measured Raman spectrum can help detection algorithms to find spectral features of CWAs and effectively detect them. In this paper, we propose a denoising autoencoder for Raman spectra with a loss function for sample efficient learning using noisy dataset. We conduct experiments to compare its effect on the measured spectra and detection performance with several existing noise reduction algorithms. The experimental results show that the denoising autoencoder is the most effective noise reduction algorithm among existing noise reduction algorithms for Raman spectrum based standoff detection of CWAs.

비파괴산업 분야 방사선작업종사자 직장교육을 위한 사용자 환경 기반 혼합현실(MR) 교육훈련 시스템 개발 (A Development of a Mixed-Reality (MR) Education and Training System based on user Environment for Job Training for Radiation Workers in the Nondestructive Industry)

  • 본 연구는 혼합현실을 기반으로 하는 비파괴 분야의 교육용콘텐츠를 만들기 위해 시행되었다. 현재 방사선 분야에는 교육용 혼합현실 기반 교육용 콘텐츠는 거의 없는 실정이다. 그리고 비파괴검사분야는 작업 환경이 열악하고, 종사자 수도 한 업체당 직원 수가 10인 이하인 곳이 많고, 교육적 인프라도 잘 구축되어 있지 않다. 강의식으로 전달만 하는 실습교육과 안전교육이 시행되고 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해 혼합현실을 기반으로 한 비파괴 종사자 교육용 콘텐츠를 개발하게 되었다. 이 콘텐츠는 Microsoft사의 HoloLens 2 HMD 디바이스를 기반으로 개발되었고, 1280⁎720의 해상도를 기준으로 제작되었고, 디바이스마다 해상도가 달라 Anchor의 Left, Right, Bottom, TOP위치를 맞추어 Side를 제작하였고, 이미지가 큰 것은 Atlas의 크기에 영향을 미치기 때문에 배경화면이나 상단 바와 같이 부피가 큰 것은 UITexture로 대체하여 제작되었다. UI Widget Wizard에서는 Label, Buttom, ScrollView, Sprite를 제작하였다. 본 연구는 종사자에게 현장감 있는 교육내용을 제공하고, 자기 주도적인 교육을 가능하게 하고, 현실을 바탕으로 한 3D 입체영상으로 교육할 수 있어 흥미와 몰입도 있는 교육을 시행할 수 있다. 혼합현실에서 제공되는 영상을 통해 현실세계와 가상현실 간에 상호작용을 통해 학습자가 직접 사물을 조작할 수 있어 학습자의 학습 능률을 높일 수 있다. 또한 혼합현실 교육을 시행하면 시간과 장소에 구해를 받지 않아 코로나 시대에 비대면 학습 콘텐츠로 큰 역할을 할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

SSP MPO 알고리즘을 이용한 초음파 결정립 잡음 억제에 관한 연구 (A Study on Suppression of UT Grain Noise Using SSP MPO Algorithms)

  • 원전의 1차 계통 건전성 확보를 위한 일환으로서 초음파 검사 방법은 매우 중요하다. 그러나, 초음파는 검사 대상제의 내부 구조 및 형상에 따라 검사의 제한을 받으므로 결정립이 큰 재질에서 후방 산란 잡음 즉 시 불변성(time invariant) 잡음이 발생한다. 이로 인하여 수신 신호는 낮은 신호 대 잡음비의 결과로 나타나게 된다. 주파수 대역 분할 방식(split spectrum processing:SSP) 기술은 이와 같은 잡음을 억제하는데 효율적이다. 그러나, 종래의 SSP 기술은 minization, PT 알고리즘중 한 알고리즘만 적용하였으나 본 논문에서는 이두 가지 알고리즘을 동시에 처리하는 MPO(minimization and polarity threshold)알고리즘을 적용하고, 주파수 대 대역폭비가 일정한 FIR 여파기로서 새로운 constant-Q SSP를 수행하여 신호처리 시간을 단축하였다. 현장 검사 요건과 동일하게 종파와 횡파에도 일부 적용하였다. 한편, 이러한 새로운 SSP 기술을 적용할 수 있도록 초음파 탐상기를 설계 제작하였고, 시험편들의 준비는 원전 모재 대비시험편, 모재와 동일한 재질의 스테인레스 스틸 및 구리 시험편들이며, 이들 시험편으로 부터 초음파 신호를 수집하여 본 신호 처리를 적용한 결고 신호 대 잡음비가 향상됨을 알 수 있었다.
