This paper proposes a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based low-complexity relaying approach for multiuser cellular two-way relay channels (CTWRCs). In the proposed scheme, the relay detects the signal using successive interference cancellation (SIC) and re-generates the transmit signal with zero-forcing (ZF) transmit precoding. The achievable data rates of the NOMA-based multiuser two-way relaying (TWR) approach is analyzed. We further study the power allocation among different data streams to maximize the weighted sum-rate (WSR). We re-form the resultant non-convex problem into a standard monotonic program. Then, we design a polyblock outer approximation algorithm to sovle the WSR problem. The proposed optimal power allocation algorithm converges fast and it is shown that the NOMA-TWR-OPA scheme outperforms a NOMA benchmark scheme and conventional TWR schemes.

In order to improve the coverage and achieve massive spectrum access, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology is applied in millimeter wave massive multiple-input multiple-output (mMIMO) communication network. However, the power assumption of active sensors greatly limits its wide applications. Recently, Intelligent Reconfigurable Surface (IRS) technology has received wide attention due to its ability to reduce power consumption and achieve passive transmission. In this paper, spectral efficiency maximum problem in the millimeter wave mMIMO-NOMA system with IRS is considered. The sparse RF chain antenna structure is designed at the base station based on continuous phase modulation. Furthermore, a joint optimization problem for power allocation, power splitting, analog precoding and IRS reconfigurable matrices are constructed, which aim to achieve the maximum spectral efficiency of the system under the constraints of user's quality of service, minimum energy harvesting and total transmit power. A three-stage iterative algorithm is proposed to solve the above mentioned non-convex optimization problems. We obtain the local optimal solution by fixing some optimization parameters firstly, then introduce the relaxation variables to realize the global optimal solution. Simulation results show that the spectral efficiency of the proposed scheme is superior compared to the conventional system with phase shifter modulation. It is also demonstrated that IRS can effectively assist mmWave communication and improve the system spectral efficiency.

This paper investigates the improved outage probability of correlated superposition coding(CSC)/non-successive interference cancellation(SIC) non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) scheme. For this, first, we calculate the outage probability of the conventional independent superposition coding(ISC)/SIC NOMA scheme. Then, simulations demonstrate that the outage probability of CSC/non-SIC NOMA improves greatly, with respect to that of conventional ISC/SIC NOMA. As a result, CSC/non-SIC NOMA schemes could be a promising technique in 5G networks, especially with such improved outage probability.
The mobile hotspot network (MHN), which is capable of providing a data rate of gigabits per second at high speed, is considered a potential use case of the future enhanced mobile broadband for 5G. Because a unidirectional network deployment has been considered for an MHN, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) can be employed to improve the system performance. For a practical implementation of NOMA under an MHN highway scenario where multiple pieces of MHN terminal equipment are served through the same beam simultaneously, a NOMA transceiver is proposed in this paper. For the NOMA transmitter, Gray-coded QAM constellation mapping is extended to arbitrary modulation order q. For the NOMA receiver, successive interference cancellation (SIC) is no longer necessary, and instead, a parallel demodulation is proposed. The numerical and simulation results suggest that the proposed NOMA transceiver outperforms the conventional NOMA SIC receiver and can be flexibly used for an MHN highway scenario.

In this paper, to improve further the bit-error rate (BER) performance of the stronger channel user in non-uniform source non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with symmetric superposition coding (SSC), we propose a smart bit-to-symbol (BTS) mapping of SSC. First, the analytical expression for the total allocated power of the proposed BTS mapping scheme is derived, and then we show that the BER of the proposed BTS mapping scheme improves further, compared to that of the existing BTS mapping scheme. Moreover, based on the simulations, the signal-to-noise (SNR) gain of the proposed BTS mapping scheme over the existing BTS mapping scheme is calculated. In result, the proposed BTS mapping could be a candidate scheme for non-uniform source SSC NOMA with the SNR gain.

Recently, to improve the performance of the strongest channel gain user in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with a non-uniform source and symmetric superposition coding (SSC), a novel bit-to-symbol (BTS) mapping have been proposed. However, only the performance of the user with the stronger channel gain was analyzed. Thus, we compare the bit-error rate (BER) of the new BTS scheme with that of uniform sources, especially for the user with weakest channel gain. First, we show that the performance of the novel BTS scheme for the user with weakest channel gain also improves, compared to that of the uniform sources. Furthermore, the signal-to-noise (SNR) gain of the new BTS scheme over the uniform sourcesis calculated. As a consequence, the novel BTS scheme would improve the performance of the user with weakest channel gain as well as that with the stronger channel gain for SSC NOMA with a non-uniform source.

Recently, a lossless non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) implementation without successive interference cancellation (SIC) has been proposed in the literature of NOMA. This lossless non-SIC NOMA was achieved via correlated superposition coding (CSC), in contrast to conventional independent superposition coding (ISC). However, only the achievable data rates for CSC NOMA were investigated. Thus, this paper proposes a practical CSC NOMA scheme under Rayleigh fading channel environments. First, we design the practical CSC NOMA scheme, namely quadrature correlated superposition modulation (CSM) NOMA, without channel coding, i.e., uncoded systems. In addition, we calculate the symbol error rates (SERs) for this quadrature CSM NOMA scheme. Then, simulations demonstrate that for the weak channel gain's user, the SER performance of the proposed quadrature CSM NOMA is shown to be improved greatly, compared to that of the conventional quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) NOMA, whereas for the strong channel gain's user, the SER performance of the proposed quadrature CSM NOMA degrades a little, compared to that of the conventional QAM NOMA. As a result, the proposed quadrature CSM NOMA scheme could be considered as a practical NOMA scheme for CSC NOMA schemes toward the fifth-generation (5G) and next generation communications.

We propose a spectral-efficient coordinated direct and relayed transmission (CDRT) scheme for a relay-assisted downlink system with two users. The proposed scheme is based on backscatter communication (BC) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technique. With the proposed BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, both users can receive one packet within one time slot. In contrast, in existing NOMA-CDRT schemes, the far user is only able to receive one packet in two time slots due to the half-duplex operation of the relay. We investigate the outage of the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme, and derive the outage probability expressions in closed-form based on Gamma distribution approximation and Gaussian approximation. Numerical results show that the analytical results are accurate and the BC-NOMA-CDRT scheme outperforms the conventional NOMA-CDRT significantly.

As the sixth generation (6G) promising technique, intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has recently attracted much attention. The IRS based wireless communication is expected to deploy the upcoming 6G mobile networks, to increase energy and spectrum efficiency in the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this paper, we compare the bit-error rate (BER) performances for phase-shift schemes of IRS non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). First, we derive a BER expression for the equalizing phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA networks. Then we compare the BER of the equalizing phase-shift scheme to that of the identical phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA networks, and show the BER improvement of the equalizing phase-shift scheme IRS NOMA over the identical phase-shift scheme IRS NOMA. Furthermore, we also validate the proposed analytical BER for the equalizing phase-shift scheme in IRS-NOMA by Monte Carlo simulations, and demonstrate that they well match each other.

Towards the sixth generation (6G) mobile networks, spectrum and energy efficiency of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmissions in the fifth generation (5G) wireless system have been improved by intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) technologies. However, the reflecting devices of an IRS tend to be correlated because they are placed close on the surface each other. In this paper, we present an analysis on the correlated IRS in NOMA cellular networks. Specifically, we consider the bit-error rate (BER) performances for correlated-IRS in NOMA networks. First, based on the central limit theorem, we derive an approximate analytical expression of the BER for correlated-IRS NOMA systems, by using the second moment of the channel gain. Then we validate the proposed analytical BER by Monte Carlo simulations, and show that they are in good agreement. In addition, we also show numerically the BER improvement of the correlated-IRS NOMA over the conventional independent-IRS NOMA.
