  • A wheel/rail contact module for dynamics analysis of railway vehicles is developed. The developed module is based on non-linear contact and FASTSIM algorithm which calculates contact forces. And the module is incorporated into the general purpose program DADS using user-defined subroutines. The simulation results of this developed program is compared to those of the railway vehicle dynamics analysis program AGEM. Since the module is based on DADS, various simulation environments can be considered.

  • In this paper, we studied the possibility of non-contact bill counting method using optical fiber sensor instead of traditionally used friction counting method. To implement non-contact counting, we designed and made optical fiber sensor and related parts. optical fiber sensor is made of optical fiber of 1mm diameter, photo diode and laser diode. Based on the conclusion which derived from preliminary experiment, instrument part is designed to make unevenness on the surface of bill paper and to stay parallel with optical fiber section. By analyzing the signal of optical sensor, we made counting program. Experimental instrument is composed of sensor part, instrument part, signal handling part. We checked the possibility of non-contact counting method after implementing experiment by using optical fiber sensor and instrument part.

  • The formulation of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and a shortcoming of traditional SPH in contact simulation are presented. A contact algorithm is proposed to treat contact phenomenon between two objects. We describe the boundary of the objects with non-mass artificial particles and set vectors normal to the contact surface. Contact criterion using non-mass particles is established in this study. In order to verify the contact algorithm, an algorithm is implemented in to an in-house program; elastic wave propagation is an analysed under low velocity axial impact of two rods. The results show that the contact algorithm eliminates the undesirable phenomena at the contact surface; numerical result with the contact algorithm is compared with theoretical one.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of anon-contact complex exercise program on muscle strength, fall efficacy, quality of life, and balance ability in older over 65 years of age. Design: A randomized controlled trial Methods: A total of 37 people in older over 65 years of age participated in the study. Random program was conducted and assigned to the experimental group (n=19) and the control group (n=18). Both groups performed the older people welfare center program. In addition, in the experimental group, a non-contact complex exercise program for muscle and balance exercise was performed. All interventions were performed 2 times a week, for a total of 6 weeks. chair stand test (CST), fall efficacy scale (FES), Euro quality of life 5 dimension (EQ-5D), Berg balance scale (BBS), timed up and go test (TUG), Fullerton advanced balance scale (FAB) were measured before and after the intervention to compare their effectiveness. Results: Both groups showed significant differences in CST, FES, EQ-5D, BBS, and TUG before and after intervention (p<0.05). FAB showed significant differences before and after intervention in all items except for FAB 8 and 9 items in the experimental group. In addition, the experimental group showed significant differences in CST, FES, BBS, TUG, FAB (except 1, 7, 8, 9) compared to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: The non-contact complex exercise program is an effective intervention method that has clinical significance in improving muscle strength, fall efficacy and static and dynamic balance abilities for the older over 65 years of age.

  • A previous paper(Ito et al., 2000) has described the improvement of the standard error(SEC and SEP) of the predicted soluble solids(Brix) in a melon cultivar by non-contact mode with a fiber optic probe. Then we examined the immature and mature fruits. The objective of this study was to determine if non-contact mode could improve the standard error of the predicted Brix of matured melon fruits from cross progeny as well as the contact mode(usual method). The optical absorption spectrum was measured using a NIR Systems model 6500 spectrophotometer. A commercial spectral program(NSAS ver. 3.27) was used for multiple linear regression analysis. Absorbances of 902 and in the vicinity of 877 nm were included as the independent variables in both multiple regression equations. These wavelengths are key wavelengths for non-destructive Brix determination. When the results for the contact mode and non-contact mode are compared, the latter mode improved the former standard error(SEP and RMS).

  • Purpose: Methods for non-destructive estimation of product quality have been reported in various industrial fields, but the application of ultrasonic techniques for the agricultural products of potatoes, pears, apples, watermelons, kiwis and tomatoes etc. have been rarely reported since the application of a contact-type ultrasonic transducer in agricultural products is very difficult. Therefore, this study sought to determine the firmness of apples using non-contact ultrasonic techniques. Methods: For this experiment, an ultrasonic experimental tester using a non-contact ultrasonic transducer was created, and a signal processing program was used to analyze the acquired ultrasonic reflected signal. Also, a universal testing machine was used to measure firmness parameters of the apples such as bioyield strength, a firmness factor, after the ultrasonic tests had been performed. Results: Six distance correction factors were calculated to obtain consistent values of ultrasonic properties regardless of the distance between the transducer and the surface of the subject. We developed prediction models of the bioyield strength using the distance correction factors. Conclusions: The optimum prediction model of the bioyield strength of apples using a non-contact ultrasonic technique was a multiple regression model ($R^2=0.9402$).

  • Catenary/pantograph system consists of overhead lines which have non-uniform elasticity and pantographs which move at high speed and give force to the lines, therefore happen to be failed in contacts between both from time to time. In this study, as the first step to develop a dynamic simulation program, the general theory is discussed for catenary/pantograph system and appropriate modelling. And comparison is conducted with the references after making a program which referred to the contact force equation algorithm. On this algorithm, the unknown contact force is computed by the equations which was induced as combining catenary and pantograph motion equations expressed in finite difference form. Another simulation program based on the assumed contact forces algorithm was developed. In this algorithm, numerical integraion of both the overhead line and pantograph equations, which without combining, are effected for two assumed values of contact force. The correct contact force is then obtained from these two sets of results by linear interpolation to satisfy the contact condition. Through the comparative review on the outputs from this program, it is verified that this algorithm is reliable.

  • In this study, we developed a counting method for non-contact ID cards using an optical fiber displacement sensor instead of the traditionally used friction counting method. The proposed method has the advantage of high speed and automated measurement. For counting non-contact ID cards, an H-type optical fiber sensor, jig part, and counting program are developed separately to build the system and adjust it. Through the experimental test results, it was confirmed that counting is possible with one type of international ID card and one type of financial security card based on ISO7810. Furthermore, by applying the proposed method to 100 ID cards 100 times repeatedly, it was confirmed that it has high accuracy and an error ratio of 0%. We experimentally demonstrated that the proposed counting method for non-contact ID cards using an optical fiber displacement sensor can perform measurements with high accuracy and high speed.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has been reshaping the world by accelerating non-contact services and technologies in various domains. Hospitals as a healthcare system lie at the center of the dramatic change because of their fundamental roles: medical diagnosis and treatments. Leading experts in health, science, and technologies have predicted that robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) can drive such a hospital transformation. Accordingly, several government-led projects have been developed and started toward smarter hospitals, where robots and AI replace or support healthcare personnel, particularly in the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment procedures. This article inspects the remaining element of healthcare services, i.e., surgical treatment, focusing on evaluating whether or not currently available laparoscopic surgical robotic systems are sufficiently preparing for the era of post-COVID-19 when contactless is the new normal. Challenges and future directions towards an effective, fully non-contact surgery are identified and summarized, including remote surgery assistance, domain-expansion of robotic surgery, and seamless integration with smart operating rooms, followed by emphasis on robot tranining for surgical staff.

  • This study aimed to identify the efficiency of short track-related sports injury prevention program consisted of muscle strength and neuromuscular training on non-contact injury incidence and characteristics in knee and ankle joints and low back for elite short track speed skaters. Twenty-five short track athletes who belonged to G-City Team were participated in this study from Nov. 2017 to Jul. 2018. Information on their sports injuries occurred were collected and injury prevention program was applied in their warm-up every training sessions and competition. Also their symptom-level of knee and ankle joint and low back were measured by using OSTRC overuse injury questionnaire and Cumberland ankle instability(CAIT). The injury incidence rate after application of prevention program was 2.79 injuries/1,000 hour exposures(HEs), which was lower than before (3.04 injuries/1,000HEs). The OSTRC score (30.89±28.34 and 23.84±23.61, respectively) in knee and low back after application of prevention program were lower than before (58.47±26.77 and 52.36±21.55, respectively), and the CAIT score (13.47±6.07) in ankle joint after application of program was higher than before (16.26±7.28), which means that their symptom-level was alleviated with sports injury prevention program. In conclusion, the sports injury prevention program designed for short track's motion and characteristic can have positive influences on the occurrence of non-contact injury for short track speed skaters.
