  • The homogeneous B$F_3$ containing chiral Co(III) salen complexes were anchored non-covalently on the surfaces of mesoporous SBA-16 silica containing aluminum species. The Brönsted and Lewis acidic sites are attributed to the immobilization of fluorine functionalized chiral salen complexes on the supports. The FT-IR, UV, ESCA, and NMR analyses were performed to determine the structure of synthesized chiral salen catalysts. These heterogeneous catalysts could be applied in asymmetric ring opening of terminal epoxides by water and phenol derivatives. They showed very high enantioselectivity and yield more than 98% in the catalytic synthesis of optically active products.

  • Some cytotoxicity studies for the interpretation of the interaction between nanoparticles and cells are non-mechanistic and time-consuming. Therefore, non-biological screening methods, which are faster and simpler than in-vivo and in-vitro methods, are required as alternatives to current cytotoxicity tests. Here, we proposed a simple screening method for the analysis of the interaction between several AgNPs (bare-, citrate-, and polyvinylpyrrolidone-coating) and dye-containing vesicles acting as a biomimetic cell-membrane. The interaction between AgNPs and vesicles could be evaluated readily by UV-vis spectra. Absorbance deviation in UV-vis spectra revealed a large attraction between neighboring particles and vesicles. This was confirmed by (Derjagin, Landau, Verwey, and Overbeek) theory and DMF (dark-field microscopy) analysis. This proposed method might be useful for analyzing the cytotoxicity of nanoparticles with cell-membranes instead of in vitro or in vivo cytotoxicity tests.

  • Two-dimensional (2D) metal organic framework (MOF) nanosheets (NSs) have recently gained considerable interest owing to their structural advantages, such as large surface area and exposed active sites. Two different types of 2D MOF NSs have been reported, including inherently layered MOFs and non-layered ones. Although several studies on inherently layered 2D MOFs have been reported, non-layered 2D MOFs have been rarely studied. This may be because the non-layered MOFs have a strong preference to form three-dimensionality intrinsically. Furthermore, the non-layered MOFs are typically synthesized in the presence of the surfactant or modulator, and thus developing facile and clean synthetic routes is highly pursued. In this study, a facile and clean synthetic methodology to grow non-layered 2D cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) NSs is suggested, without using any surfactant and modulator at room temperature. This is achieved by directly converting ultrathin α-Co(OH)2 layered hydroxide salt (LHS) NSs into non-layered 2D ZIF-67 NSs. The comprehensive characterizations were conducted to elucidate the conversion mechanism, structural information, thermal stability, and chemical composition of the non-layered 2D ZIF-67. This facile and clean approach could produce a variety of non-layered 2D MOF NS families to extend potential applications of MOF materials.

  • To evaluate the quality of flame-peeled chestnuts, their physical and chemical properties were analyzed. The physicochemical properties of flame-peeled chestnuts, including geometrical shape, texture and chemical composition, were compared to those of hand-peeled ones. For the flame-peeled chestnuts, some properties in heated and non-heated sections were separately analyzed. The color, texture such as springness, cohesiveness, adhesiveness, hardness and chewiness, moisture content, and reducing sugar of the heated section of the flame-peeled chestnuts were significantly different with their non-heated section. But the physicochemical properties of the non-heated section of the flame-peeled chestnuts were similar to those of the hand-peeled ones.

  • Recently, the minimum line width shows a tendency to decrease and the multi-level increase in semiconductor. Therefore, a planarization technique is needed and chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) is considered as one of the most suitable process. CMP accomplishes a high polishing performance and a global planarization of high quality. But there are several defects in CMP such as micro-scratches, abrasive contaminations, and non-uniformity of polished wafer edges. Wet etching include of Spin-etching can improve he defects of CMP. It uses abrasive-free chemical solution instead of slurry. On this study, ILD(INterlayer-Dielectric) was removed by CMP and wet-etching methods in order to investigate the superiority of wet etching mechanism. In the thin film wafer, the results were evaluated at a viewpoint of material removal rate(MRR) and within wafer non-uniformity(WIWNU). And pattern step height was also compared for planarization characteristics of the patterned wafer.

  • The theological properties of aqueous suspensions of Black Hills bentonite were measured by using a Couette-type viscometer. Three kinds of flow units in aqueous bentonite suspension were postulated. Each has a different average relaxation time, one Newtonian. One of the non-Newtonian types is thixotropic, and the other is non-thixotropic. The thixotropic non-Newtonian unit is transformed to a Newtonian unit by shear stress. If the stress is relieved, the transformed unit returns to its original state. Two flow equations were derived by introducing chemical kinetics consideration for such a transition into the generalized theory of viscous flow. One equation describes the "upcurve," a diagram of rate of sheat versus shear stress, obtained by increasing the rate of shear, and the other relates to the "downcurve" obtained by decreasing the shear rate. The equations satisfactorilly describe the experimental thixotropic hysteresis of bentonite suspensions. The equations also were successfully applied to the flow curves of the suspensions containing various amounts of monovalent electrolyte (KCI).
