진도개의 장에서 발생한 pythium증의 증례보고 (Enteric pythiosis in a Jindo dog)

  • A case of enteric pythiosis in the jejunum is reported in a 28-month-old, male Jindo dog. Grossly, a 20cm segment of the cranial jejunal wall was markedly thickened to a thickness of 10cm and the lumen was narrowed. Histological examination of the jejunum reveals transmurally affected multifocal to coalescing granulomatous inflammation. The granulomatous foci were composed of a necrotic center with neutrophilic infiltration and occasionally non-parallel, branching, septate hyphae surrounded by numerous epithelioid macrophages, multinucleated giant cells, lymphocytes and fibrosis. Multinucleated giant cells occasionally contain fragment of hyphae. The diagnosis was based on light microscopical studies and positive PAS and immunostaining for Pythium insidiosum. This is believed to be the first reported case of canine enteric pythiosis in Korea.

Tree Structure Modeling and Genetic Algorithm-based Approach to Unequal-area Facility Layout Problem

  • A tree structure model has been proposed for representing the unequal-area facility layout. Each facility has a different rectangular shape specified by its area and aspect ratio. In this layout problem, based on the assumption that the shop floor has enough space for laying out the facilities, no constraint is considered for a shop floor. Objectives are minimizing total part movement between facilities and total rectangular layout area where all facilities and dead spaces are enclosed. Using the genetic code corresponding to two kinds of information, facility sequence and branching positions in the tree structure model, a genetic algorithm has been applied for finding non-dominated solutions in the two-objective layout problem. We use three kinds of crossover (PMX, OX, CX) for the former part of the chromosome and one-point crossover for the latter part. Two kinds of layout problems have been tested by the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the presented algorithm is able to find good solutions in enough short time.

  • In an attempt to determine the correlations between the input acoustic impedance and the variations of the physical characteristics of the terminal elements, a five-lobe branched tube-network is mathematically developed and experimentally simulated using a lung simulator. The model takes into account some realistic conditions such as varying cross-sectional areas, flexible wall properties and branching. The effects of airway constrictions expressed by lobe stiffness variations on the impedance are determined for a range of frequencies up to 256 Hz. It is concluded that the developed model is capable of non-invasively predicting various physiological changes in the airway passages.

  • Acoustic pressure response and NO formation of hydrogen-air diffusion flames at various pressures are numerically studied by employing counterflow diffusion flame as a model flame let in turbulent flames in combustion chambers. The numerical results show that extinction strain rate increases linearly with pressure and then decreases, and increases again at high pressures. Thus, flames are classified into three pressure regimes. Such non-monotonic behavior is caused by the change in chemical kinetic behavior as pressure rises. Acoustic pressure response in each regime is investigated based on the Rayleigh criterion. At low pressures, pressure-rise causes the increase in flame temperature and chain branching/recombination reaction rates, resulting in increased heat release. Therefore, amplification in pressure oscillation is predicted. Similar phenomena are predicted at high pressures. At moderate pressures, weak amplification is predicted. Emission index of NO shows similar behaviors as to the peak-temperature variation with pressure.

  • Extending discrete event modelling formalisms to facilitate greater symbol manipulation capabilities is important to further their use in intelligent control and design of high autonomy systems. This paper defines an extension to the DEVS formalism that facilitates symbolic expression of discrete event times by extending the time base from the real numbers to the field of linear polynomials over the reals. A simulation algorithm is developed to generate the branching trajectories resulting from the underlying non-determinism. To efficiently manage linear polynomial constraints based on feasibility checking algorithm borrowed from linear programming. The extended formalism offers a convenient means to conduct multiple, simultaneous explorations of model behaviors. Examples of application are given with consideration on fault model analysis.

Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-742CB로부터 Dextransucrase를 Coding하는 유전자 분리 및 특성 연구 (Cloning and Characterization of a Gene Coding for a Dextransucrase from Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-742CB)

  • 10%의 $\alpha-(1\rightarrow3)$가지 결합을 갖고 $\alpha-(1\rightarrow6)$으로 연결된 댁스트란을 합성하는 텍스트란수크라제를 coding하는 유전자 (dsCB)를 Leuconostoc mesenteroides B-742CB로부터 분리하여 염기서열과 아미노산 서열을 결정하였다. dsCB가 포항된 6 6.lkb띄 DNA fragment는 4,536 bp의 염기로 구성된 하나의 open reading 잔ame(ORF)를 가지고 있었다. 추정된 아미노산 서열은 ORF의 698벤째 nucleotide 위치에 있는 start codon (ATG)으로부터 5,223번째 위치에 있는 slop codon(TAA)까지 였다. 구조 유전자의 아마노산은 1,5087H로 구성되고 분자량의 계산값은 168.6 kDa었고 non-denatured SDS-PAGE를 이용하여 활성 band툴 분석한 결과 170 kDa이었다. pDSCB를 까지고 있는 재조합 E. coli는 2 % sucrose배치에서 세포외로 댁스트란수크라제를 생산하였으며, soluble과 insoluble 텍스트 란을 생산하였다. 텍스트란수크라체의 효소 촉매작용에 관여 하는 것으로 얄려져있는 conserved region의 아미노산 중 Asp-492를 Asparagine으로 바꾸고자 point mutation을 시도하였고, 결과로 얻어친 D492N은 돌연변이 이전의 균에 비하여 활성이 1.6배 감소함을 확인하였다.

산 표면처리 후 상아질 표면의 습윤이 하이브리드층 형성에 관한 전자현미경적 연구 (ELECTRON MICROSCOPIC STUDY OF RESIN-DENTIN HYBRID ZONE PRODUCED BY THE MOISTENING OF ACID CONDITIONED DENTIN SURFACE)

  • The effect of moistening and air-drying of acid-conditioned dentin before priming on the formation of resin-dentin hybrid zone was investigated, Freshly extracted human molars were used and divided at random into 5 groups, Groups 1 - 3 consisted of specimens conditioned with 10 % phosphoric acid for 20 seconds; Group 1 served as a control in which the conditioned dentin was simply blot-dried with a damp facial tissue; Group 2 was air dried for 30 seconds ; Group 3 was air dried for 30 seconds and immediately remoistened for 10 seconds with air-water syringe. and then the specimen was blot-dried with a damp facial tissue. Groups 4-5 were not acid conditioned ; In group 4, the smear layer on the dentin was blot dried before primer placement; Group 5 was air dried only for 30 seconds, The acetone-based primer and bonding agent of All Bond 2 (Bisco. Inc., USA) and composite resin (Z-100, 3M Dental products, USA) were applied for acid conditioned dentin and non-conditioned dentin. The morphologic ultrastructure of resin-dentin hybrid zone was examined by the use of SEM and TEM. and the existence of inorganic material and analysis of Ca/P weight-percent ratio in the resin-dentin hybrid zone were revealed by the EDAX, The results were as follows : 1. In the moistened specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 3-$4{\mu}m$ into dentin and the denatured collagen smear layer was not present at the surface. The resin tag was formed to a thickeness of 3-$4{\mu}m$ at the upper part of dentinal tubule and compactively connected to each other by means of many lateral branching. 2. In the air-dried specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5\;{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper thin black layer to a thickness of 30-35nm was identified between adhesive resin and demineralized collagen layer. The resin tag to have a diameter of $2.5{\mu}m$ was formed at the upper part of dentinal tubule. However the funnel shape of the tag was not notable compared to the moistened specimens. 3. In the remoistened specimens from acid conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper black layer was not present. The resin tag at the upper part of dentinal tubule was formed less than $2{\mu}m$ and was weakly connected to each other by means of few lateral branching. 4. In the non-conditioned groups, the smear layer was formed to a thickness of $0.5{\mu}m$ at dentin surface. However, the resin-dentin hybrid zone was not identified by TEM. The evidence of resin penetration into intertubular and intratubular dentin did not show. 5. All the acid-conditioned groups showed that the detected calcium and phosphorus weight percent ratios at the $2{\mu}m$ upper portion from the resin-dentin interface into the resin were much higher than that at the $2{\mu}m$ lower portion from the resin-dentin interface to dentin. 토양(土壤) 산성화(酸性化) 정도(程度)에 따른 독일가문비나무(Picea abies)의 뿌리 발달(發達)과 분지형태(分枝形態)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Root Development end Branching farms of Norway Spruce(Picea abies) in the Differently Acidified Forest Soil)

  • 본 연구는 토양 산성화 정도가 서로 다른 독일가문비나무 임분에서 토양 깊이에 따른 뿌리의 나이테 발달과 분지형태를 분석함으로서, 임분에 따른 뿌리발달을 비교하고자 하였다. 조사된 독일가문비나무 임분에서 뿌리분지구조는 변형된 뿌리와 변형되지 않은 뿌리에 대한 조사임분간의 통계적 유의성이 인정되지 않았지만, 가장 많이 산성화된 Weidenbrunnen 임분에서는 뿌리가 상해를 입음으로 인해 발생되는 포크형, 권총형, 쇠스랑형과 같은 비정상적인 분지구조가 많이 나타났다. 뿌리의 나이테 분석 결과, 수평뿌리의 연평균 길이생장은 Weidenbrunnen 임분과 Barbis 임분이 6.3cm, Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen 임분이 9.5cm의 길이 생장을 나타내었으며, 수직뿌리의 연평균 길이생장은 Weidenbrunnen 임분이 4.4cm Barbis 임분이 5.4cm, 그리고 Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen 임분이 6.7cm의 생장을 보였다. 80cm 토양 깊이에서의 뿌리 횡단면 분포는 Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen 임분이 굵은 뿌리와 가는 뿌리가 고르게 분포하고 있으며, 횡단면의 합계는 $32.6cm^2$ 이었다. Barbis 임분에서는 굵은 뿌리가 가운데 몰려서 분포하고, 가는 뿌리는 비교적 적게 나타났으며, 그 합계는 $29.2cm^2$이었다. Weidenbrunnen 임분에서는 적은 수의 가는 뿌리만 분포하고 그 값은 $10.9cm^2$에 불과하였다. 뿌리고정계수는 Eberg$\ddot{o}$tzen 임분이 1.04로 다른 두 임분 Barbis(0.3), Weidenbrunnen (0.08)과 비교하여 매우 높은 값을 나타내었다. 본 조사 독일가문비나무 임분 중에서 Weidenbrunnen 임분에서 나타난 비정상적인 형태의 변형된 분지구조와 뿌리의 저조한 생장은 토양산 성화 등으로 인하여 정상적인 뿌리가 생장의 장애를 받아 나타난 결과 때문이라 사료된다.

참깨 개화, 등숙에 관한 연구 -제 1 보 참깨 초형에 따른 개화특성에 관한 연구- (Studies on the Flowering and Maturity in Sesame 1. Flowering Habit by Different Plant Types)

  • 참깨의 개화습성은 분지, 과성, 실방수 등 식물학적외부 특성차이에 의하여 8가지의 초형으으로 나누어 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 참깨의 개화순서는 단경종이나 분지종 공히 상위부까지는 1절당 1일간격으로 개화되었으나 최상위절에서는 3∼8일이나 중단되었다가 다시 피는 개화일시정지현상을 보였는데 이러한 일시 개화정지현상은 참깨 후기등숙불량의 중요한 원인으로 추정되었다. 2. 단경종 3과성은 주화보다 측화는 4∼5절 하위절에서 개화시작되고 분지종 3과성은 주경에서 주화보다 측화는 3절 하위절에서 개화시작되었으며 분지에서는 주경주화가 5절위개화시 분지착화 1절에서 개화가 시작되었다. 3. 착화하위부에서는 같은 날에 측화는 주화보다 5절하위에서 피지만 그 거리는 상위부로 갈부록 좁혀들어 착화상위부에서는 측화는 주화보다 1절하위에서 피었다. 4. 착화중위부(7절∼9절)에서는 같은 날 한마디에서 1과성에서는 1개의 꽃이 개화되는 것이 정상이나 2개의 꽃이 개화되며(2과성), 3과성(3화성)에서는 4과성(4화성) 심지어는 5과성(5화성)으로까지 발현되는 현상을 보였다. 5. 분지종에서는 분기총화수가 전체화수의 BTQ형의 44%를 제외하고는 모두 67%∼75%를 보여 분지종에서 분지화수가 전체화수에서 차지하는 비중이 높았으며 고위분지일수록 개화기간이 길어지고 화수가 많아지는 현상을 보였다. 6. 분지종 3과성 2실 4방(BTB형)은 주경과 분지에서 공히 3과성으로 개화되고 개화기간도 같은데 반해, 분지종 3과성 4실 8방(BTQ형)은 주경만이 3과성으로 개화되었을 뿐 분지는 1 과성으로 개화되었고 개화중기까지 만 분지에서 개화되고 개화후기에는 주경만이 개화되었다. 7. 분지종은 평균 128개가 개화되었고 단경종은 72개가 개화되어 화수는 분지종이 많았고 개화소요일수는 단경종이 34일인데 비해 분지종은 24일로서 단경종보다 10일이 빨라서 분지종이 화수는 많고 개화기간은 짧은 경향을 보였다. 8. 단경종보다는 분지종의 개화수가 현저히 많고 분지종중에서도 3과성2실4방이 가장 많아 NMB<NMQ<NTQ<BMQ<NTB<BMB<BTQ<BTB의 경향이 뚜렷하였다. 9. 참깨의 꽃을 엽액에 착생되기 때문에 참깨의 꽃과 잎의 착생위치는 일치되며 BMB와 NTB형의 개화진행 습성은 역시계침, 나선형으로 개화가 진행되는 십자나선형화서, 십자나선형엽서를 보였다.

A new red algal parasite, Symphyocolax koreana gen. et sp. nov. (Rhodomelaceae, Ceramiales), from Korea

  • A new red algal parasite, Symphyocolax koreana M. S. Kim, gen. et sp. nov., has been found on a specimen of Symphyocladia latiuscula (Harvey) Yamada, a member of the tribe Pterosiphonieae of the Rhodomelaceae; this genus has never before been reported to host red algal parasites. Here, the new parasite from Korea is described in terms of vegetative and reproductive morphology. The thallus has a minute, colored polysiphonous upright axis with many branches attached by pseudoparenchymatous pulvinate bases. There are six pericentral cells, with many corticated cells in the lower part of the main branches. Trichoblasts occur on dioecious male and female gametophytes, but not on tetrasporophytes. Procarps develop on suprabasal cells of trichoblasts and consist of a four-celled carpogonial branch and two sterile cells attached to the supporting cell. Spermatangial branches are borne one per each successive segment on monosiphonous pedicels in spiral positions with fertile trichoblast. Tetrasporangia are formed one per segment in a straight series and are tetrahedrally divided. Features of the vegetative axes, procarp, spermatangial trichoblasts, and tetrasporangial branching show that the new genus is an alloparasite belonging to the tribe Polysiphonieae.
