  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of location satisfaction of innovative start-ups, located in capital and non-capital areas, on the intention of relocation. The analysis was based on the data of a survey of 231 innovative start-ups that were founded less than 7 years ago. 10 factors related to the aspects of business management, network building, and business environment were considered as location satisfaction of start-ups. The dependent variable was whether innovative start-ups plan to relocate. First, it was confirmed that in the case of innovative start-ups in capital area, the intention to relocate was found to decrease when the location satisfactions related to the promptly provision of products and services to consumers and ease of supplying labor were increased. Second, in the case of innovative start-ups in non-capital area, it was found that the intention to relocate was found to decrease when the location satisfactions related to creating a network, convenient transportation and free and creative start-up environment were increased. In addition, it was found that the higher the sales of start-ups in non-capital area, the lower their intention to relocate while the higher firm age of start-ups in non-capital area, the higher their intention to relocate. This study has an academic contribution to examining the relationship between between the location satisfactions of start-ups and the intention to relocate, which has been rarely addressed in Korea, and to shedding light on the difference in capital and non-capital areas. Furthermore, this study has policy implications since it suggests factors that the government should consider for geographical agglomeration of start-ups.

  • Today, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are considered to be an important actor in the policy process. Based on this fact, this study aims to analyze the perception of the housing-related NGOs in Korea. Questions were prepared around two main themes: housing welfare policy and local governance. The data were collected in 11 cities where multi-party talks on housing welfare were held in April and in May 2007. The results are as follows. When it comes to housing welfare policy, housing supply should be combined with rehabilitation policy of low-income households. The roles of local government are strongly emphasized. Stabilization of housing market is important, but concrete measures should be necessary to help those who cannot participate in housing transaction. Concerning local governance issues, local government is expected to play a great role in setting up a productive policy network; NGOs are inclined to rely on public aid; An emphasis is put on professional and academic education which can make housing welfare delivery system more effective. With the questionnaire survey results, evolution and characteristics of the NGO movements in the Korean housing sector and the recent change of housing policy orientations are explained. And, strengthening communication channel between central and local actors, participation of NGOs in the various housing surveys, establishing a regular forum on the local level, and so on, are proposed in the conclusion.

  • This paper deals with free vibration analysis of non-uniform column resting on elastic foundations and subjected to follower force at its free end. The internal pores and graphene platelets (GPLs) are distributed in the matrix according to different patterns. The model is proposed with material parameters varying in the thickness of column to achieve graded distributions in both porosity and nanofillers. The elastic modulus of the nanocomposite is obtained by using Halpin-Tsai micromechanics model. The differential quadrature method as an efficient and accurate numerical approach is used to discretize the governing equations and to implement the boundary conditions. It is observed that the maximum vibration frequency obtained in the case of symmetric porosity and GPL distribution, while the minimum vibration frequency is obtained using uniform porosity distribution. Results show that for better understanding of mechanical behavior of nanocomposite column, it is crucial to consider porosities inside the material structure.

  • In conjunction with a vertical network. horizontal geodetic control points provide the basic framework for topographic mapping and legal survey. The design of such networks as well as the technical means for obtaining their coordinates have been changed in time, and therefore Korea National Geographic Institute has planned and observed the precise geodetic network since 1975. The aim of this study is to investigate the systematic distortions of the precise geodetic network in Korea implementing by the simultaneous adjustment. The results show that there are large discrepancies between adjusted and public coordinates in Chun-nam and Kyung-buk areas. The coordinate discrepancies are mainly due to the non-rigorous adjustment method and the disregard of the orientation unknown of the first direction for some blocks.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate and analyse how Community Forest Initiatives as urban fringe management initiatives made alliances with a variety of interest groups, enrol them in the urban fringe management processes using the Actor Network Theory. The Thames Chase Community Forest Initiative was selected and its area of operation included a $97 km^2$ area of green-belt area in East London. It was a instrument far improving and protecting the unique characteristics of the countryside landscape from urban developments as well as evaluating the impact of forestry inclusion in land use planning in the urban fringe. It was operated through a tiered structure comprising the Thames Chase Joint Committee and the management team. They employed a variety of devices to speak with one voice to bring about an effective operation process and to secure the enrolment of a variety of interest groups in its operational processes. Of note, the initiative's actor network impacted on improvement to and management of the countryside landscape despite not owning any land itself. As a result, when urban fringe management initiatives will be launched in South Korea to achieve a more effective and efficient urban fringe management, local councillors and representatives from public and non-government bodies should be more responsive to local communities' views and needs and work more vigorously on their behalf through lobbying, seeking media support, and so on. Moreover, better understanding and communication between local authorities' officers and management initiatives' teams are essential to avoid duplication of work practice.

  • The explosive growth in wireless networking increasingly urges the demand to support mobility within the Internet which is what Mobile-IP aims to provide. Because the transmission of signals through open-air s easy to be attacked, it is important to provide secure transmission for mobile users and make them responsible for what they have done in networks. Although IETF provides a secret-key based security mechanism, those mechanisms suffer from scalability, efficiency and non-repudiation service problem. The proposed mechanism uses public-key based authentication optimizing the performance. It includes non-repudiation service on the side of mobile for airtight security in wireless network. The simulation results show that the proposed authentication reduces the total registration time. It especially minimizes the computation cost on the side of the mobile node and solves the power problem. In practice, the proposed authentication is feasible with reasonable performance and security service in macro mobility that Mobile-IP is intended to solve.

  • This paper deals with a methodology for searching optimal route of hazard material (hazmat) vehicles. When we make a decision of hazmat optimal paths, there is a conflict between the public aspect which wants to minimize risk and the private aspect which has a goal of minimizing travel time. This paper presents Efficient Vector Labeling algorithm as a methodology for searching optimal path of hazmat transportation, which is intrinsically one of the multi-criteria decision making problems. The output of the presented algorithm is a set of Pareto optimal paths considering both risk and travel time at a time. Also, the proposed algorithm is able to identify non-dominated paths which are significantly different from each other in terms of links used. The proposed Efficient Vector Labeling algorithm are applied to test bed network and compared with the existing k-shortest path algorithm. Analysis of result shows that the proposed algorithm is more efficient and advantageous in searching reasonable alternative routes than the existing one.

  • Asthma is a heterogeneous disease whose development is shaped by a variety of environmental and genetic factors. While several recent studies suggest that microbial dysbiosis in the gut may promote asthma, little is known about the relationship between the recently discovered lung microbiome and asthma. Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) have also been shown recently to participate in asthma. To investigate the relationship between the lung microbiome, ILCs, and asthma, we recruited 23 healthy controls (HC), 42 patients with non-severe asthma, and 32 patients with severe asthma. Flow cytometry analysis showed severe asthma associated with fewer natural cytotoxicity receptor (NCR)+ILC3s in the lung. Similar changes in other ILC subsets, macrophages, and monocytes were not observed. The asthma patients did not differ from the HC in terms of the alpha and beta-diversity of the lung and gut microbiomes. However, lung function correlated positively with both NCR+ILC3 frequencies and microbial diversity in the lung. Sputum NCR+ILC3 frequencies correlated positively with lung microbiome diversity in the HC, but this relationship was inversed in severe asthma. Together, these data suggest that airway NCR+ILC3s may contribute to a healthy commensal diversity and normal lung function.
