This Paper proposes a new nonlinear partial least square method that extends the linear PLS. Proposed nonlinear PLS uses self-organizing feature map as PLS outer relation and multilayer neural network as PLS inner regression method.

This paper presents the study of the efficient localization algorithm for non-linear least square estimation. Although non-linear least square(NLS) estimation algorithms are more accurate algorithms than linear least square(LLS) estimation, NLS algorithms have more computation loads because of iterations. This study proposed the efficient algorithm which reduced complexity for small accuracy loss in NLS estimation. Simulation results show the accuracy and complexity of the localization system compared to the proposed algorithm and conventional schemes.

The high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system introduces inevitable non-linear distortion in the transmission due to the amplifier non-linear property. This causes both in-band distortion and out of band spectrum re-growth. In this paper we tried to compensate the problem by using polynomial based pre-distortion. Estimation of both the non-linear and inverse non-linear polynomial is achieved using the Least Square Error (LSE) method. Using these parameters closed form pre-distorter can be easily created. We also used the 'partial peak cancellation and clipping' method to remove the high peak present in the non constant amplitude of the OFDM signal responsible to drive the amplifier in near saturation region for better performance of the system
Growth curves including Bass, Logistic and Gompertz functions are widely used in forecasting the market demand. Nonlinear least square method is often adopted for estimating the model parameters but it is difficult to set up the starting value for each parameter. If a wrong starting point is selected, the result may lead to erroneous forecasts. This paper proposes a method of selecting starting values for model parameters in estimating some growth curves by nonlinear least square method through grid search and transformation into linear regression model. Resealing the market data using the national economic index makes it possible to figure out the range of parameters and to utilize the grid search method. Application to some real data is also included, where the performance of our method is demonstrated.

It is introduced an approach to model for numerical analysis of a sound absorbing material that has different absorbing coefficient according to frequency. For modeling of a sound absorbing material, we tried to model by a traditional modeling method. But it had large differences on frequency domain, especially a capacitance component due to increasing of frequency. We approach to model a sound absorbing material by the Debye polarization technique with non-linear least square method. At first, we estimated parameters form a polyurethane with thickness 25 mm, then we could model a polyurethane with thickness 50 mm using same parameters. Therefor, we could find that the Debye polarization is an useful way to model sound absorbing materials.

The Constrained Linear Spectral Unmixing(CLSU) is investigated for sub-pixel image processing, Its result is the abundance map which mean fractions of endmember existing in a mixed pixel. Compared to the Linear Spectral Unmixing using least square method, CLSU uses the NNLS (Non-Negative Least Square) algorithm to guarantee that the estimated fractions are constrained. But, CLSU gets Into difficulty in image processing due to select endmember at a user's disposition. In this study, endmember selection optimization method using entropy in the error-image analysis is proposed. In experiments which is used hyperion image, it is shown that our method can select endmember number than CLSU based on unsupervised endemeber selection.

The present work is aimed to analyze the creep characteristics of a turbojet engine turbine blade using the theta projection method. The theta projection method has been widely used due to its advantages and flexibility. For the creep characteristic analysis of the turbine blade, tests are performed considering the operating conditions and the non-linear material properties. Results from the creep test are fitted using the four theta model. The predicted proprieties using the four theta model are compared with the prediction model and creep test results. To obtain an optimum value of the four theta parameters in non-linear square method, a number of computing processes in the non-linear least square method were carried out to obtain full creep curves. Results using the theta model has more than 0.95 value of $R^2$. The results between the experimental values and predicted four theta model has about 90.0% accuracy. The theta projection method can be utilized for a design purpose to predict the creep behavior.

The 3-dimensional measurement using stereo vision system must achieve a camera calibration. So far, the 3-dimensional calibration technique that uses two-dimensional grid papar and a non-linear least square method has been developed and tested. But, this method is inefficient because it has many calculation procedure and a non-linear analysis. Therefore, this paper proposed the projective geometric method which produced the calibration parameter by vanishing point. The vanishing point is producted by a cross ratio and a parallel line pairs. The results of the computer simulation show utility of the proposed method.

In this paper, we proposed non-linear gamma curve algorithm for gamma correction. The previous non-linear gamma curve algorithm is generated by the least square polynomial using the Gauss-Jordan inverse matrix. However, the previous algorithm has some weak points. When calculating coefficients using inverse matrix of higher degree, occurred truncation errors. Also, only if input sample points are existed regular interval on 10-bit scale, the least square polynomial is accurately works. To compensate weak-points, we calculated accurate coefficients of polynomial using eigenvalue and orthogonal value of mat11x from singular value decomposition (SVD) and QR decomposition of vandemond matrix. Also, we used input data part segmentation, then we performed polynomial curve fitting and merged curve fitting results. When compared the previous method and proposed method using the mean square error (MSE) and the standard deviation (STD), the proposed segmented polynomial curve fitting is highly accuracy that MSE under the least significant bit (LSB) error range is approximately $10^{-9}$ and STD is about $10^{-5}$.
The non-linear least squares model(NLSM) has long been the standard technique used by hydrologists for constructing rating curves. The reasons for its adaptation are vague, and its appropriateness as a method of describing discharge measurement uncertainty has not been well investigated. It is shown in this paper that the classical method of NLSM can model only a very limited class of variance heterogeneity. Furthermore, this lack of flexibility often leads to unaccounted heteroscedasticity, resulting in dubious values for the rating curve parameters and estimated discharge. By introducing a heteroscedastic maximum likelihood model(HMLM), the variance heterogeneity is treated more generally. The maximum likelihood model stabilises the variance better than the NLSM approach, and thus is a more robust and appropriate way to fit a rating curve to a set of discharge measurements.
