하천수질오염이 농업용수에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Water Pollution on the Irrigation Water)

  • The water quality in Wonju stream, Seom river in Kangwon province and Bokha, Shindun stream in Kyeonggi province was investigated between the season of irrigation on July, 1990 and of non-irrigation on September in 1989. The results of water quality obtained from this study were as follows; As for water quality of the Wonju stream and the Seom river, the concentration of COD, T-N, SS and Cu, and for the Bokha, Shindun stream, the concentration of T-N, SS and Cu were exceeded standard levels of quality guideline of agricultural water use in the season of irrigation. However, in the water quality of Wonju and Bokha stream, the concentration of T-N , SS and Cu, and in the Seom river, the concentration of T-N, SS, Cu and Zn were exceeded standard levels of agricultural water quality in the season of non-irrigation. And the average water quality of the 4 streams were not suitable for agricultural water use. The comparison of the annual average water quality of the 4 streams for pH, DO, T-N and SS were in statistics significantly different with p values less than 0.01. When the average water quality between the season of irrigation and non-irrigation in each stream was compared, DO and COD in the Wonju stream, COD in the Seom river, pH, DO, T-N, SS and Cu in the Shindun stream showed a significant difference with p<0.01. The average in the sediment were; COD, 5.65∼26.53 ppm; Cu, 0.26∼0.49 ppm and Zn 0.95∼2.97 ppm. The concentration of three contaminants were markedly higher than the water quality. And the concentration of COD, Zn in the sediment showed a significant difference with p<0.01, and Cu showed a considerably significant difference with p<0.05.

Determination of Phenolics, Sugars, Organic Acids and Antioxidants in the Grape Variety Kalecik Karası under Different Bud Loads and Irrigation Amounts

  • Irrigation applications (IA) and increased bud load (BL) are fundamental practices that are used to achieve optimum yields in grape production, while maintaining fruit quality parameters. Two different irrigation amounts (IA-I and IA-II) based on growth stages, in addition to a non-irrigated (rain-fed) control, along with two different BL applications [normal bud load based on traditional pruning practices (1BL) and double bud load (2BL)] were evaluated over a two-year experiment for their effects on the biochemical composition of the berries. Berries from the rain-fed vines had higher sugar levels, whereas no significant change was detected in organic acid levels. The increased bud load (2BL) treatment yielded less sugar in the berries compared to the 1BL control in both years. The total non-colored phenolic compounds (NPC) were greater in the irrigated (especially IA-I) and 2BL treatments than in those of the rain-fed and 1BL control. However, total anthocyanin was greater in the non-irrigated and 1BL control than in the irrigated and 2BL treatments. The antioxidant contents of the berries also varied according to the treatments and years. Our results implied that implementing a higher bud load along with the IA-I irrigation application, in which irrigation applications were 50 and 75% of the cumulative evaporation from the Class A pan during berry set to veraison and veraison to harvest growth stages, respectively, can help in obtaining greater yields in high-plateau viticulture. Thus, if more buds are left on the vines, along with sufficient irrigation and rainfall, yield may increase while maintaining or increasing the biochemical composition of the berries.

Institutional Improvement of Irrigation Management System in Korea

  • There are two major operation and management (O & M) systems in Korea, one by the Korea Agricultural and Rural Infrastructure Corporation (KARICO), a government corporation, and the other by non-KARICO, which includes Irrigation associations (IAs) and individual farmers under the supervision of city or county authorities. Main issues and constraints in the irrigation facility management are: (1) The dual system of the irrigation water management system; management by KARICO and that by IAs, and (2) From the commencement of KAICO in 2000, farmers were exempted from water charge. This is opposite to the international trend, which follows' user pay principle: Main specific strategies to improve irrigation management system are: (1) Introduction of water metering for water charge as well as water conservation, (2) Adoption of demand-oriented irrigation rather than supply-oriented to reduce waste of water, (3) To augment farmer's participation by forming water user associations, (4) To maintain consistency of government policy, (5) To promote roles of local governments, and (6) To reestablish the role of KARICO.

관수주기와 상토조성이 자생 골고사리(Asplenium scolopendrium)의 생육과 생리에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Irrigation Times and Soil Media on the Growth and Physiological Characteristics of Native Fern Asplenium scolopendrium)

  • This study was conducted to examine the growth and physiological characteristics of Asplenium scolopendrium native fern as affected by irrigation times and soil media as an environment modeled on habitate where was sunken-condition. 1. Light intensity was lower in sunken than in non-sunken, but air humidity was higher in sunken about $2040\%$. Soil moisture content was higher with the leaf mold in sunken irrigating 2 times/week. The results of chemical analysis of medium showed that EC, pH, organic matter content, total nitrogen, CEC, Exch-Ca, Exch-Mg and Exch-K were higher with leaf mold than sud: leafmold and field soil: sud: leaf mold. 2. In the case of irrigation 2 times/week Asplenium scolopendrium grew well sunken more than non-sunken. As non-sunken condition similar with, 7 times/week irrigation, plant height, frond width, frond length and stipe length increased. In case of soil media, growth of Asplenium scolopendrium was better with leaf mold than that of sand: leafmold or field soil: sand: leaf mold. 3. In the case of irrigation 2 times/week photosynthetic rate, $CO_2$ absorption rate and water efficiency were higher with non-sunken than that of sunken, expect of stomatal conduction, $CO_2$ use efficiency. The physiological characteristics of Asplenium scolopendrium were highest in non-sunken irrigating 7 times/week In case of soil media, physiological activity was higher with leaf mold than sand: leafmold or field soil: sand: leaf mold.

고온기 펄라이트 자루재배시 최적 근권온도 조절방법 (Root-zone Temperature Control of Tomato Plant Cultivated in Perlite Bag during Summer Season)

  • 고온기 토마토 펄라이트 자루재배에서 효과적인 근권온도 조절방법을 구명하고자 실험을 수행하였다. 실험처리로는 급액온도를 낮추기 위해 급액관을 단열재로 감싸주는 처리(Insulate), 매회 급액시 급액관에 있는 뜨거운 배양액을 빼고 급액하는 처리(Discard), 일중 가장 더운 오후 1시-3시에 급액을 중단하는 처리(Skip)와 무처리구(Non)를 두었다. 식물생육지표 조사에서는 실험구 모두 생장강도가 강해지고 생장균형이 영양생장으로 움직였으나, 처리별로는 큰 차이가 없었다. 고온기 근권온도는 Discard처리에서 가장 효과적으로 조절되었고, 지하부 생육은 Discard처리, Skip처리, Insulate처리 및 무처리구(Non) 순으로 좋았고, 지상부의 생육은 Discard처리에서 가장 우수하였다. 총수확량은 Insulate처리에서 가장 많았고, Discard처리, 무처리구(Non) 및 Skip처리 순으로 많았으나, 상품과량은 Discard처리와 Insulate처리에서 비슷하게 많았으며, Skip처리 및 무처리구(Non) 순으로 많았다. 순수익도 ha 기준으로 무처리구보다 Discard처리에서 9,687,600원, Insulate처리에서 9,396,000원 더 많았다. 따라서 설치작업이 간단하며 비용이 적게 드는 Insulate처리와 Discard처리를 함께 처리하는 것이 설치를 위한 노동력과 비용적인 면을 감안하여도 가장 경제적인 것으로 사료된다.

개발초기 간척답의 관개용수량 산정에 관한 연구 (Irrigation Water Requirements of Unripened Reclaimed Paddy Fields)

  • In order to plan the effective irrigation project in unripened reclaimed paddy fields, the estimation of criteria of irrigation water requirements for the normal growth of crops is very important. This study was carried out to determine the leaching requirements before cultivating crops, the consumptive use of water by the growth of crops, and preventive water requirements of resalinization during the growth period in unripened reclaimed paddy fields. The irrigation water requirements in good permeable soils were estimated as 2,530mm for culvert treatment(S1CW3) and 3,080mm for non-culvert treatment(S1NW4), which were 1.8 times and 2.4 times as high as the irrigation water requirements in common rice fields, respectively. And, in case of poor permeable soils, 3,360mm for culvert treatment(S2CW4) and 3.580mm for non-culvert treatment(S2NW4) were estimated, which were 2.5 times and 2.8 times higher than the normal irrigation water requirements, respectively.

관개용 댐의 효율적 저수관리를 통한 밭 관개 용수 확보 (Security of Upland Irrigation Water through the Effective Storage Management of Irrigation Dams)

  • In Korea, upland irrigation generally depends on the ground water or natural rainfall since irrigation water supplied from dams is mainly used for paddy irrigation, and only limited amount of irrigation water is supplied to the upland area. For the stable security of upland irrigation water, storage level of irrigation dams was simulated by the periods. A year was divided into 4 periods considering the irrigation characteristics. Through the periodical management of storage level, water utilization efficiency in irrigation dams could be enhanced and it makes available to secure extra available water from existing dams without new development of water resources. Two study areas, Seongju and Donghwa dam, were selected for this study. Runoff from the watersheds was simulated by the modified tank model and the irrigation water to upland crops was calculated by the Penman-Monteith method. The analyzed results showed that relatively sufficient extra available water could be secured for the main upland crops in Seongju area. In case of Donghwa area, water supply to non-irrigated upland was possible in normal years but extra water was necessary in drought years such as 1998 and 2001.

  • Characteristics of concentration of pollutants such as total nitrogen(T-N), total phosphorus(T-P) and chemical oxygen demand(COD) during dry days of $2002\~2003$ were investigated for streamwater from a rural watershed. Water was sampled and discharge was measured at 5-days intervals at outlet of study area. The mean concentrations of pollutants in non-irrigation and irrigation period not significantly different. For increasing discharge in 2002, TN concentration increased but COD concentrations decreases.

Nutrient Losses from a Paddy Field

  • The study was carried out to investigate the nutrient losses at a paddy field located at the southwest of central Korea from May 1, 1997 to April 30, 1998. The studying area was 10 ha. The amounts of nutrients loaded by runoff water were measured as follows. The total-N was 1,031 and $61kg\;10ha^{-1}$ during the irrigation and non-irrigation periods, respectively. The total amount of N from both periods was $1,092kg\;10ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$. The total-P was 23 and $2kg\;10ha^{-1}$ during the irrigation and non-irrigation periods, respectively. The total amount of P from both periods was $25kg\;10ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$. For percolationloss, the losses of total-N, ammonia-N, nitrate-N, and total-P were 167,30,122, and $3kg\;10ha^{-1}$, respectively. The respective loss ratios of N and P by runoff water were 55.2 and 11.9%, while the loss ratios of N and P by percolationwere 8.4 and 1.4%.
