원형 외팔보의 일대일 공진에서의 비평면 비선형 진동현상 (Non-Planar Non-Linear Vibration Phenomenon on the One to One Resonance of the Circular Cantilever Beam)

  • Experimental and theoretical study of the non-planar response motions of a circular cantilever beam subject to base harmonic excitation has been presented in this paper work. Theoretical research is conducted using two non-linear coupled integral-differential equations of motion. These equations contain cubic linearities due do curvature term and inertial term. A combination of the Galerkin procedure and the method of multiple scales are used to construct a first-order uniform expansion for the case of one-to-one resonance. The results show that the non-linear geometric terms are very important for the low-frequency modes of the first and second mode. The non-linear inertia terms are also important for the high-frequency modes. We present the quantitative and qualitative results for non-planar motions of the dynamic behavior.

  • A two-dimensional "twin-jet counterflow" burner has been designed for the better understanding of the stability of turbulent flames. This flow system enables one to systematically investigate various effects on non-premixed flames, including the effects of curvature, negative strain, and non-premixed flame interactions. The objective of this study is comparing characteristics of extinction of non-premixed methane flames with that of non-premixed propane flames investigated previously. The extinction limit of non-premixed methane and propane flames can be extended compare to that for the conventional counterflow non-premixed flame because of the existence of petal shaped flame and have same structure. The hysteresis in transition between the petal shaped flame and the curved two-wing flames could be observed. We could find differences between non-premixed methane flame and non-premixe propane flame such as the position of one wing extinction and the regime of one wing extinction.

The Effects of Non-Recourse Mortgages on Default Risks and Households' Surplus

  • We study whether a default option attached to non-recourse mortgages improves borrowers' surplus from mortgage financing. By defaulting on mortgage debt, borrowers can save their non-collateralized income from being foreclosed. In exchange, borrowers must forgo non-monetary surplus from retaining any collateral. Banks may charge a high mortgage rate due to increased default rates. We find that the interest rate of non-recourse mortgage decreases with the borrower's surplus from home ownership. Moreover, non-recourse mortgages benefit only borrowers who deem housing property as an investment asset. Hence, the transition to a non-recourse mortgage is detrimental to welfare if the borrower enjoys a large surplus from home ownership. Although the borrower privately knows how much surplus she enjoys from home ownership, a menu of non-recourse mortgage contracts may exist, yielding a separating equilibrium without information rent.

최대볼륨을 활용한 비교차 볼륨분해 (Non-overlapping Volume Decomposition Using Maximum Volumes)

  • In this paper, we propose a non-overlapping volume decomposition method that decomposes a solid model into non-overlapped volumes. The non-overlapping volume decomposition finds non-overlapped volumes from maximum volumes. After introducing the concept of the non-overlapping volume decomposition, we discuss technical issues and solutions for them. The non-overlapping volume decomposition is verified by the experiments with a prototype system. From the experiments, it was found that the non-overlapping volume decomposition shows better result than maximum volume decomposition from the view point of design feature recognition.

  • A numerical method and algorithms is proposed to perform optimization of non-linear response structures. An analytical and numerical method based finite element method is also proposed for the transformation of non-linear response into linear response. Loads transformed from this method are defined as the equivalent linear loads. With the loads and the transformed response, linear static optimization is performed for nonlinear response structure with geometric and/or material non-linearity. The results of the optimization are compared with them of typical non-linear response optimization using finite difference method. The proposed method is very efficient and derives good solution.

부직포를 삽입한 탄소섬유강화 복합적층판의 인장특성 평가 (Evaluation of Tensile Properties of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composite Laminates with Non-Woven Carbon Mat)

  • Tensile properties of carbon fiber reinforce composite laminates with non-woven carbon mat are evaluated in this paper. Composite laminates are made by inserting non-wovon carbon mat between layers, The specimens were cut and polished according to ASTM standard . Longitudinal and Transverse Young's modulus are obtained by tensile test. Young's moduli without non-woven carbon mat are compared with those with non-woven carbon mat. Longitudinal and Transverse tensile strength are also investigated. Experimental results show that the transverse Young's modulus of composite materials with non-woven carbon mat is about 10% higher than that of composite materials without non-woven carbon mat. Longitudinal tensile strength of composite materials with non-woven carbon mat is about 24% higher than that of composite materials without non-woven carbon mat. Transverse tensile strength and torughness also increase by inserting non-woven carbon mat between layers.

Non-Bank Lending to Firms: Evidence from Korean Firm-Level Data

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the determinants of non-bank depository institutions (non-bank financial corporations) lending to firms. The paper aims to contribute to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence from firm-level data and unveiling factors related to access to non-bank financial corporations by firms. Research design, data, and methodology - We used the data on borrowing by firms from CRETOP from years 2008 to 2011. Using the manufacturing industry, we examined what firm-level characteristics explained the increase in borrowing from non-bank financial corporations rather than the banks. Results - Analyzing the firm-level data from 2008 to 2011, we found that firms were more likely to borrow from non-bank financial insti­tutions as the size of the firm increases, implying that large firms have more access to non-bank financing than small and medium-sized firms. In addition, it also showed that small and medium-sized firms moved to non-bank financial corporations for loans. Conclusion - Non-bank depository institutions are not a sub­stitute for bank lending to firms. More specifically, they replace bank lending to firms mostly for large firms rather than small and medium-sized firms. Also, collateral and other firm-level characteristics do not matter in accounting for non-bank lending to firms.

Sequence Variations in the Non-Coding Sequence of CTX Phages in Vibrio cholerae

  • This study focused on the variations in the non-coding sequences between ctxB and rstR of various CTX phages. The non-coding sequences of CTX-1 and CTX-cla are phage type-specific. The length of the non-coding region of CTX-1 and CTX-cla is 601 and 730 nucleotides, respectively. The non-coding sequence of CTX phage could be divided into three regions. There is a phage type-specific Variable region between two homologous Common regions (Common regions 1 and 2). The non-coding sequence of RS1 element is similar to CTX-1 except that Common region 1 is replaced by a short RS1-specific sequence. The non-coding sequences of CTX-2 and CTX-cla are homologous, indicating the non-coding sequence of CTX-2 is derived from CTX-cla. The non-coding region of CTX-O139 is similar to CTX-cla and CTX-2; however, it contains an extra phage type-specific sequence between Common region 2 and rstR. The variations in the non-coding sequences of CTX phages might be associated with the difference in the replication efficiency and the directionality in the integration into the V. cholerae chromosome.

비저작측 교합간섭이 저작근 활성도에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Interference of the Non-chewing Side on Electromyographic Activity of Masticatory Muscles)

  • The purpose of this study was to standardized and classify the coordination pattern among the chewing side and non-chewing side masseter and anterior muscles, in terms of EMG values on lateral excursion, clenching, and mastication in presence of the non-chewing side. In this study, 25 subjects were selected for experiment of lateral excursion, clenching and mastication and EMG value of the masseter and anterior temporal muscle on both sides were recored 2 times respectively. The bioelectric processor model EM2(Myo-tonic research, INC. U.S.A.) with the surface electrodes were used to record the EMG activity during all experimental procedures. The results were as follows : 1. During lateral excursion on intereference of non-chewing side, the EMG values of the temporal muscle were significantly more prominent than those of the temporal muscle on the non-chewing side. The EMG values of non-chewing side were significantly more prominent than those of chewing side on the both side masseter muscle and those of chewing side were significantly more prominent than those of non-chewing side on the both side temporal muscle. 2. During clenching on the occlusal interferance, the EMG values of non-chewing side masseter muscle were most prominent. 3. During mastication on the occlusal interferance, the EMG values of the chewing side temporal muscle were most prominent and those of non-chewing side temporal muscle were the lowest. 4. The EMG values of temporal muscle of non-chewing side on interferance were significantly more prominent than those of canine guidance during lateral excursion. 5. During clenching on the occlusal interferance, the EMG values of the masseter and the temporal muscles of the non-chewing side were significantly more prominent than canine guidance, but those of chewing side temporal muscle on canine guidance were significantly more prominent than those of interferance. 6. During mastication on canine guidance, the EMG Values of the temporal muscle on the chewing side, the masseter muscle on the chewing side and the temporal muscle on the non-chewing side were more prominent than those of interferance, but temporal muscle of non-chewing side was not different between canine guidance and occlusal interferance on non-chewing side.

Validity for Use of Non-HDL Cholesterol Rather than LDL Cholesterol

  • NonHDL cholesterol values have been suggested as a risk marker for cardiovascular disease. NonHDL cholesterol values were calculated, using a very simple measurement [nonHDL cholesterol=serum total cholesterol-HDL cholesterol]. This formula is very useful as a screening tool for identifying dyslipoproteinemias, risk assessment, and assessing the results of hypolipidemic therapy. The data from the 2009 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used. Analysis was done for 1,992 subjects with lipid panels (Cholesterol, HDL, LDLdirect and Triglycerides) results. We studied the relationship between nonHDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. As a result, nonHDL cholesterol values were plotted against the LDL direct and calculated values. The linear regression equation for nonHDL cholesterol and direct LDL cholesterol was $nonHDLchol=23.60+1.03{\times}LDLdirect$ (p<0.0001, $r^2=0.80$) in all subjects. The subjects were classified into triglyceride values. When triglycerides are below 400 mg/dL, the linear fit to LDL direct is found to be $[nonHDLchol=17.34+1.07{\times}LDLdirect]$ (p<0.0001, $r^2=0.88$) and to the Friedewald LDL calculation is $[nonHDLchol=23.10+1.02{\times}LDLcalc]$ (p<0.0001, $r^2=0.82$). For triglycerides above 400 mg/dL, the linear fit equation is $[nonHDLchol=87.57+0.92{\times}LDLdirect]$ (p<0.0001, $r^2=0.50$) and to the LDL calculated, it is $[nonHDLchol=142.70+0.50{\times}LDLcalc]$ (p<0.0001, $r^2=0.32$). This study provides examples of the utility of nonHDL cholesterol concentrations in clinical medicine.
