Nominal shear strength of concrete beam is the combined strength of concrete shear strength and steel shear strength in current design code. But Torsional moment strength of concrete is neglected in calculation of the nominal torsional moment strength of reinforced concrete beam in current revised code. Tensile stress of concrete strut between cracks is still in effect due to tension stiffening effect. But the tensile stresses of concrete after cracking are neglected in bending and torsion in design. The torsional behavior is similar to the shear behavior in mechanics. Therefore the torsional moment strength of concrete should be concluded to the nominal torsional moment strength of reinforced concrete beam. To verify the validity of the proposed model, the nominal torsional moment strengths according to CEB, two ACI codes(89, 99) and proposed model are compared to experimental torsional strengths of 55 test specimens found in literature. The nominal torsional moment strengths by the proposed model show the best results.
In this study, the nominal wake field of a semi-displacement type high-speed vessel was computed at full scale by using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and GEOSIM-based approaches. A scale effect investigation on nominal wake field of benchmark Athena vessel was performed with two models which have different model lengths. The members of the model family have the same Fr number but different Re numbers. The spatial components of nominal wake field have been analyzed by considering the axial, radial and tangential velocities for models at different scales. A linear feature has been found for radial and tangential components while a nonlinear change has been obtained for axial velocity. Taylor wake fraction formulation was also computed by using the axial wake velocities and an extrapolation technique was carried out to get the nonlinear fit of nominal wake fraction. This provides not only to observe the change of nominal wake fraction versus scale ratios but also to estimate accurately the wake fraction at full-scale. Extrapolated full-scale nominal wake fractions by GEOSIM-based approach were compared with the full-scale CFD result, and a very good agreement was achieved. It can be noted that the GEOSIM-based extrapolation method can be applied for estimation of the nominal wake fraction of semi-displacement type high-speed vessels.

Recently, in the field of industrial servo-systems, several methods have been proposed for tracking the reference input fastly and finely without overshoot. These methods, however, are established under hypothesis that structure and parameters of the plant are known accurately and they are time invariant. In practice, it is difficult to obtain the values of plant's parameters accurately and usually plants change with time and operation conditions. In this paper a method to construct the nominal model tracking adaptive control system is proposed. The system is composed of the nomial model which produces a ideal response and the model tracking system with the fuzzy adaptive controller. If the actual plant is equal to the controlled object in the nominal model, the output of the plant is the same as that of the nominal model and the fuzzy adaptive controller becomes idle. However, when the plant changes, the fuzzy adaptive controller of the tracking system operates in order for the output of the plant to track the ideal response. Through the computer simulations under various conditions, it is confirmed that the proposed model tracking system is very effective.

The purpose of this study is to design the adaptive speed control system of a marine diesel engine by combining the Model Matching Method and the Nominal Model Tracking Method. The authors proposed already a new method to determine efficiently the PID control Parameters by the Model Matching Method. typically taking a marine diesel engine as a non-oscillatory second-order system. But. actually it is very difficult to find out the exact model of a diesel engine. Therefore, when diesel engine model and actual diesel engine are unmatched as an another approach to promote the speed control characteristics of a marine diesel engine, this paper Proposes a Model Reference Adaptive Speed Control system of a diesel engine, in which PID control system for the model of a diesel engine is adopted as the nominal model and Fuzzy controller and derivative operator are adopted as the adaptive controller.

In this article, a reduction method for nominal variables is presented and its use illustrated. Factor analysis model (FAM) generally enables us to reduce variables having interval or ratio scale based on their correlation coefficients. We developed an extensive method that makes FAM applicative to the case of nominal variables which does not give correlation coefficients, but only the degree of association. Cramer's V coefficient is a well-established measure that provides the strength of association for nominal variables with a range of [0,1]. When Cramer's V coefficient can logically substitute for correlation coefficient, FAM would be extensively used for reduction of nominal variables.
In order to design a stable robust controller, nominal model, and the upper bound about the uncertainty which is the error of the model are needed. The problem to estimate the nominal model of controlled system and the upper bound of uncertainty at the same time is called robust identification. When the nominal model of controlled system and the upper bound of uncertainty in relation to robust identification are given, the evaluation of the validity of the model and the upper bound makes it possible to distinguish whether there is a model which explains observation data including disturbance among the model set. This paper suggests a method to identity the uncertainty which removes disturbance and expounds observation data by giving a probable postulation and plural data set to disturbance. It also examines the suggested method through a numerical computation simulation and validates its effectiveness.

In this paper, a novel RLS-based DOB (Recursive Least Squares Disturbance Observer) scheme is proposed to improve the performance of DOB for nominal model identification. A nominal model can be generally assumed to be a second order system in the form of a proper transfer function of an ARMA (Autoregressive Moving Average) model. The RLS algorithm for the model identification is proposed in association with DOB. Experimental studies of the balancing control of a one-wheel robot are conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. The performances between the conventional DOB scheme and the proposed scheme are compared.

In this paper, a finite impulse response(FIR) fixed-lag smoother is proposed for discrete-time nonlinear systems. If the actual state trajectory is sufficiently close to the nominal state trajectory, the nonlinear system model can be divided into two parts: The error-state model and the nominal model. The error state can be estimated by adapting the optimal time-varying FIR smoother to the error-state model, and the nominal state can be obtained directly from the nominal trajectory model. Moreover, in order to obtain more robust estimates, the linearization errors are considered as a linear function of the estimation errors. Since the proposed estimator has an FIR structure, the proposed smoother can be expected to have better estimation performance than the IIR-structured estimators in terms of robustness and fast convergence. Additionally the proposed method can give a more general solution than the optimal FIR filtering approach, since the optimal FIR smoother is reduced to the optimal FIR filter by setting the fixed-lag size as zero. To illustrate the performance of the proposed method, simulation results are presented by comparing the method with an optimal FIR filtering approach and linearized Kalman filter.

This paper proposed the real-time monitoring methodology of a traffic signal controller. The proposed methodology is based on the simulation technology, and it is necessary to construct a simulation model imitating the behavior of a traffic signal controller. By executing the simulation model, we can obtain the 'nominal system trajectory' of the traffic signal controller. On the other hand, an IoT(Internet of Things)-based monitoring device is implemented in a traffic signal controller. Through the monitoring device, it is possible to obtain the 'actual system trajectory'. By comparing the nominal system trajectory and the actual system trajectory, we can estimate the degree of deterioration of a traffic signal controller.
