The piezoelectric coupling in piezoelectric vibration energy harvesters with load resistance induces electrical damping as well as increase in the system stiffness. Starting from analytically deriving the explicit relations through governing equations in the frequency domain, this work identifies the characteristics of the electrically induced damping mechanism and shows that the electrically induced damping serves as a structural hysteretic damping on condition that a piezoelectric vibration energy harvester is excited at its short-circuit resonant frequency and its load resistor is optimally impedance- matched at the same time. Finally, it is analytically verified that the equivalence of a mechanical and an electrically induced damping ratio is required for the maximum power generation at a load resistor, which was claimed in some literature.

As ships become faster, larger and are required to meet higher standards, the importance of flow noise is highlighted. However, unlike in the aeroacoustics field for airplanes and trains (where flow noise is considered in design), acoustics are not considered in the marine field. In this study, analysis procedures for hull-induced flow noise are established to investigate the flow noise characteristics of a wave-piercing hull form that can negate the effect of wave-breaking. The principal mechanisms behind hull-induced flow noise are fluid-structure interactions between complex flows underneath the turbulent boundary layer and the hull. Noise induced by the turbulent boundary layer was calculated using wall pressure fluctuation and energy flow analysis methods. The results obtained show that noise characteristics can be distinguished by frequency range and hull region. Also, the low-frequency range is affected by hull forms such that it is correlated with ship speed.

In this paper, the results of underwater vibration experiment are analyzed to verify platform vibration-induced noise isolation characteristics of a hull-mounted acoustic sensor. The experimental condition causing platform vibration-induced noise is generated using the mock-up hull, where the acoustic sensor is installed, with shaker in an acoustic water tank. The performance indices of ATF (Acceleration Transfer Function), AVS (Acceleration Voltage Sensitivity), and IL (Insertion Loss) for the acoustic sensor are calculated from the output of the standard accelerometers, which are installed on the mock-up hull and the acoustic sensor, and the output signal of the acoustic sensor. The frequency-dependent noise isolation characteristics of the acoustic sensor are analyzed based on the calculated performance indices and an effectiveness of the experiment is examined.
This study was done to know the effects of the water extracts of Gyogamdan(GGD) on the function of macrophages, the most important cells of the innate immune system, and the rosette forming ability of splenocytes in the mouse under stress. The effects of GGD on the immunosuppression induced by noise stress are as follows. 1. Administration of GGD water extracts normalized the bo요 weight which might be decreased by noise stress. 2. Administration of GGD water extracts increased the production of the such reactive oxygen intermediates as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide from macrophsges in vivo & in vitro which were decreased by noise stress. 3. Administration of GGS water extracts did not affect the production of reactive nitrogen intermediates. 4. Administration of GGD water extracts increased the rosette forming ability of splenocytes which was decreased by noise stress. The above effects of GGD might be useful for the treatment of stress-induced infections diseases which could be caused by the suppression of immune responeses which are initiated by the functions of macrophages of the innate immune system.

To investigate the mechanism of friction-induced vibration and noise of ship water lubricated stern bearings, a two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) nonlinear self-excited vibration model is established. The novelty of this work lies in the detailed analysis of influence of different parameters on the stability and nonlinear vibration characteristics of the system, which provides a theoretical basis for the various friction vibration and noise phenomenon and has a very important directive meaning for low noise design of water lubricated stern bearings. The results reveal that the change of any parameter, such as rotating speed of shaft, contact pressure, friction coefficient, system damping and stiffness, has an important influence on the stability and nonlinear response of the system. The vibration amplitudes of the system increase as (a) rotating speed of shaft, contact pressure, and the ratio of static friction coefficient to dynamic friction coefficient increase and (b) the transmission damping between motor and shaft decreases. The frequency spectrum of the system is modulated by the first mode natural frequency, which is continuous multi-harmonics of the first mode natural frequency. The response of the system presents a quasi-periodic motion.

The vibration of slab causes a sudden change of air pressure in the interface between slab and air to create structure home sound. Floor impact noise induced from the vibration of slab became one of the hottest social issues in these day, and it took the biggest parts of the cause of damage in environmental dispute. Because the structure borne sound of slab is different from the dynamic characteristic of slab, it is required more precise vibroacaustic analysis. In this study, we was trying to understand by what mechanism the slab noise is induced from the slab vibration and the relationship between the dynamic propety of slab and the noise is shown by the numerical simulation.
Developed is a computer program for the prediction of the aero-acoustic performance characteristics such as discharge pressure, efficiency, power and noise level in the basic design step of axial flow fan. The flow field and the aerodynamic performance of fan are analyzed by using the streamline curvature computing scheme with total pressure loss and flow deviation models. Fan noise is assumed to be generated due to the pressure fluctuations induced by wake vortices of fan blades and to radiate via dipole distribution. The vortex-induced fluctuating pressure on blade surface is calculated by combining thin airfoil theory and the predicted flow field data. The predicted aerodynamic performances, sound pressure level and noise directivity patterns of fan by the present computer program are favorably compared with the test data of actual fan. Furthermore, the present computer program is shown to be very useful in optimizing design variables of fan with high efficiency and low noise level and in analyzing their design sensitivities.

In the present study, a computational analysis of the flow in a centrifugal blower is carried out to predict a performance and to explain noise characteristics of the blower. Unsteady, 3D Navier-Stokes equations were solved with k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model using CFX software. CFD results were compared with the experimental data that is acquired from an experiment conducted with the same blower. The pressure fluctuation in the blower was transformed into the frequency domain by Fourier decomposition to find the relationship between flow behaviors and noise characteristics. Sound pressure level (SPL) which is obtained from wall pressure fluctuation at impeller outlet represents relative overall sound level of the blower well. Sound spectra show that there are some specific peak frequencies at each mass flow rate and it can be explained by flow pattern.

Reactor Noise is defined as the fluctuations of measured instrumentation signals during full-power operation of reactor which have informations on reactor system dynamics such as neutron kinetics. The Reactor internal structures which consist of many complex components are subjected to flow-induced vibration due to high temperature and pressure in reactor coolant system. The above flow-induced vibration causes degradation of structural integrity of the reactor and may result in loosing mechanical binding component which might impact other equipment and component or cause flow blockage. It is important to analyze reactor noise signal for the early detection of potential problem or failure in order to diagnosis reactor integrity in the point of view of safety and plant economics. Detailed design of hardware diagnostic system reactor internal structures using neutron noise(RIDS).
In this work results from an underwater experiment on flow-induced noise in the interior of a towed body generated from a surrounding turbulent boundary layer are presented. The measurements were performed with a towed body under open sea conditions at towing depths below 100 m and towing speeds ranging from 2.4 m/s to 6.2 m/s (4 kn to 12 kn). Focus is given in the experiments to the relation between (outer) wall pressure fluctuations and the (inner) hydroacoustic near-field on the reverse side of a flat plate. The plate configuration consists of a sandwich structure with an (thick) outer polyurethane layer supported by an inner thin layer from fibre-reinforced plastics. Parameters of the turbulent boundary layer are estimated in order to analyse scaling relations of wall-pressure fluctuations, interior hydroacoustic noise, and the reduction of pressure fluctuations through the plate.
