  • As the economy has grown and the main industry in Korea has been changed from secondary industry to tertiary industry, the importance of indoor environment has been a matter of common concern, in which one of the main concerns is to improve the indoor acoustic conditions. However, even though this is required more than before, there are no measures to protect the human being from the noise of electric home appliances. This is owing to the absence of the data about sound power level of electric home appliances. So, we investigate the sound power level of them and analyze the acoustical characteristics of each one. First, we tried to investigate the sound power measurement method of each electric home appliance. After it we test the sound power level of them. From the survey, we can know that the vacuum cleaner is the most noisy electric home appliance, and the refrigerator is the least noisy one. This results will help us predict the indoor noise level using the basic data of sound power level.

  • This paper presents a new Design-for-Testability (DfT) circuit for 4.5-5.5GHz low noise amplifiers (LNAs). The DfT circuit measures gain, noise figure, input impedance, input return loss, and output signal-to-noise ratio for the LNA without external expensive equipment. The DfT circuit is designed using 0.18m SiGe technology. The circuit utilizes input impedance matching and DC output voltage measurements. The technique is simple and inexpensive.

  • Today, although there have been high technical developments of a compressor in the respect of its capacity, it has been so hard to develop in the respect of vibration and noise because mechanical structure of it has originally numerous vibration and noise. However, if we can grasp the point of systematic phenomena of vibration and noise through the understanding of dynamic characteristics in mechanical equipment, it may be possible to consider countermeasures. In this study about a reciprocal compressor, the part of its machinery is modeled as rigid body, and the part of its spring is modeled as flexible body, and then they are analyzed by DADS. Each rigid body and spring are connected with joint torque of a motor is applied to shaft, and pressure is applied to a piston so that a compressor can be revolved. Based on this modeling, influence of a compressor's vibration is analyzed through changes of offset, connecting rod and crank radius In the case of weight balance, it I produced after re-design, and then changes of vibration of a compressor's inside are checked through experiments. These analysis data may help set measures of reducing vibration of a reciprocal compressor.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal how the road traffic noise influences on the response of teachers and students, which composed of conversation, studying, relaxation, and physical disturbances. The research method used in this study was self-administrated questionnaire. Samples of the survey were composed of 420 persons(114 teachers and 306 students) who are exposed to traffic noise less than 65 dB(A) from two junior high schools and 410 persons(140 teachers and 270 students) from two noisy junior high schools which the road traffic noise above 65 dB(A). In the response of both of the teachers and students in noisy(above 65 dB) schools complaints of disturbances of conversation, studying, relaxation, and physical disturbances are much higher than that of less noisy schools' teachers and students(p<0.01). On the occasion of time and season, the subjects answered the traffic noise cause high troublesome and stresses in the afternoon(12:00 - 17:00) and summer respectively. It is necessary to provide governmental comprehensive and fundamental measures to improve the noisy school environments.

  • Railway bridge is the most problematic thing in the railway is due to noise and vibration. To solve these problems, there have been studies. However, a fundamental alternative to the noise and vibration. It has not so far not shown, and to minimize the problem is focused. As a result, developed a lot of noise reduction measures, but the vibration is not much for reduction. In this study, to support the superstructure of the bridge vibration possible for spherical elastomeric bearing is a technical review. And it applies to the railway bridge, the numerical analysis was carried out.

  • Korean has two types of voiceless alveolar fricatives: a non-tense fricative /$S^{h}$ and a tense fricative /s'/. Twenty native speakers of Korean produced five pairs of isolated words containing word initial $S^{h}V$ and /s'V/ sequences where V was any one of five (/a, e, i, o, u/) of Korean vowels. Acoustic measures such as duration, fricative noise prominent frequency, energy change of following vowel, and fundamental frequency at vowel onset were examined. Results showed that among the parameters, aspiration noise duration of /s'/ in mid and low vowel contexts was less than 21 ms. In a perception experiment, where only the aspiration noise interval of the /$S^{h}$/ tokens was incrementally reduced, some listeners shifted perception from /$S^{h}$/ to /s'/.

  • This paper proposes the design and measurement of a 6-18 GHz front-end receiver module that has been combined into a one- channel output from a two-channel input for electronic warfare support measures (ESM) applications. This module includes a limiter, high-pass filter (HPF), power combiner, equalizer and amplifier. This paper focuses on the design aspects of reducing the noise figure (NF) and matching the phase and amplitude. The NF, linear equalizer, power divider, and HPF were considered in the design. A broadband receiver based on a combined configuration used to obtain low NF. We verify that our receiver module improves the noise figure by as much as 0.78 dB over measured data with a maximum of 5.54 dB over a 6-18 GHz bandwidth; the difference value of phase matching is within $7^{\circ}$ between ports.

  • Resilient mounting is effective measures to reduce the structure-borne noise and radiated noise for many applications. The acoustic stiffness (frequency-dependent stiffness) of resilient mounts is an important parameter required in order to model vibration isolation with high accuracy. It is general to use measurement method for obtaining acoustic stiffness of complex resilient mounts under static preload. In this paper, the principles of measuring acoustic stiffness were described and the developed test apparatus was introduced. Also, the feasibility of the test apparatus is illustrated by measurement results of a resilient mount.

  • In this paper vibration reduction characteristics of floating floors used in railway vehicles are studied. Vibration reduction characteristics are compared through a series of tests for elastically-coupled floor and rigidly-coupled floor. It was found that elastically-coupled floor has larger vibration reduction amount than rigidly-coupled floor. Around the fundamental natural frequency, however, elastic floor has poor vibration reduction effect than rigid floor. Measures to reduce structure-borne noise are also discussed based on the test results. Structure-borne noise for running railway vehicles cannot be reduced by an effort to deviate resonance between natural frequency of floors and major exciting forces. Instead, reducing vibration level of top floor and using covers which have low sound radiation coefficient will be effective for reducing structure-borne noise.

  • Objectives: In Korea, an average of 258 workers claim compensation for their noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) on an annual basis. Indeed, hearing disorder ranks first in the number of diagnoses made by occupational medical check-ups. Against this backdrop, this study analyzed the impact of 19 types of noise-generating machines and equipment on the sound pressure levels in workplaces and NIHL occurrence based on a 2009 national survey on work environments. Methods: Through this analysis, a series of statistical models were built to determine posterior probabilities for each worksite with an aim to present risk ratings for noise levels at work. Results: It was found that air compressors and grinding machines came in first and second, respectively in the number of installed noise-generating machines and equipment. However, there was no direct relationship between workplace noise and NIHL among workers since noise-control equipment and protective gear had been in place. By building a logistic regression model and neural network, statistical models were set to identify the influence of the noise-generating machines and equipment on workplace noise levels and NIHL occurrence. Conclusion: This study offered NIHL prevention measures which are fit for the worksites in each risk grade.
