The purpose of this study is to know the differences of MR spectra, obtained from normal volunteers by variable TE value, through the quantitative analysis of brain metabolites by peak integral and SNR between 1.5T and 3.0T, together with PRESS and STEAM pulse sequence. Single-voxel MR proton spectra of the human brain obtained from normal volunteers at both 3.0T MR system (Magnetom Trio, SIEMENS, Germany) and 1.5T MR system (Signa Twinspeed, GE, USA) using the STEAM and PRESS pulse sequence. 10 healthy volunteers (3.0T:3 males, 2 females; 1.5T : 3 males, 2 females) with the range from 22 to 30 years old (mean 26 years) participated in our study. They had no personal or familial history of neurological diseases and had a normal neurological examination. Data acquisition parameters were closely matched between the two field strengths. Spectra were recorded in the white matter of the occipital lobe. Spectra were compared in terms of resolution and signal-to-noise ratio(SNR), and echo time(TE) were estimated at both field strengths. Imaging parameters was used for acquisition of the proton spectrum were as follow : TR 2000msec, TE 30ms, 40ms, 50ms, 60ms, 90ms, 144ms, 288ms, NA=96, VOI=$20{\times}20{\times}20mm3$. As the echo times were increased, the spectra obtained from 3.0T and 1.5T show decreased peak integral and SNR at both pulse sequence. PRESS pulse sequence shows higher SNR and signal intensity than those of STEAM. Especially, Spectra in normal volunteers at 3.0T demonstrated significantly improved overall SNR and spectral resolution compared to 1.5T(Fig1). The spectra acquired at short echo time, 3T MR system shows a twice improvement in SNR compared to 1.5T MR system(Table. 1). But, there was no significant difference between 3.0Tand 1.5T at long TE It is concluded that PRESS and short TE is useful for quantification of the brain metabolites at 3.0T MRS, our standardized protocol for quantification of the brain metabolites at 3.0T MRS is useful to evaluate the brain diseases by monitoring the systematic changes of biochemical metabolites concentration in vivo.
With the development of medical technology and radiation treatment equipment, the frequency of high-precision radiation therapy such as intensity modulation radiation therapy has increased. Image-guided radiation therapy has become essential for radiation therapy in precise and complex treatment plans. In particular, with the introduction of imaging equipment for diagnosis in a linear accelerator, CBCT scanning became possible, which made it possible to calibrate and correct the patient's posture through 3D images. Although more precise reproduction of the patient's posture has become possible, the exposure dose delivered to the patient during the image acquisition process cannot be ignored. Radiation optimization is necessary in the field of radiation therapy, and efforts to reduce exposure are necessary. However, when acquiring 3D CBCT images by changing the imaging conditions to reduce exposure, there should be no image quality or artefacts that would make it impossible to align the patient's position. In this study, Rando phantom was used to scan and evaluate images for each shooting condition. The highest SNR was obtained at 100 kV 80 mA 25 ms F1 filter 180°. As the tube voltage and tube current increased, the noise decreased, and the bowtie filter showed the optimal effect at high tube current. Based on the actual scanned images, it was confirmed that patient alignment was possible under all imaging conditions, and that image-guided radiation therapy for patient alignment was possible under the condition of 70 kV 10 mA 20 ms F0 filter 180°, which showed the lowest SNR. In this study, image evaluation was conducted according to the imaging conditions, and low tube voltage, tube current, and small rotation angle scan are expected to be effective in reducing radiation exposure. Based on this, the patient's exposure dose should be kept as low as possible during CBCT imaging.
Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy of gamma-irradiated fresh broccoli and kimchi cabbage was conducted to identify their irradiation history. Different pretreatments, such as freeze-drying (FD), oven-drying (OD), alcoholic-drying (ALD), and water-washing and alcoholic-drying (WAD) were used to lower the moisture contents of the samples prior to ESR analysis. The non-irradiated samples exhibited a single central signal ($g_0$=2.0007) with clear effect of $Mn^{2+}$, especially in kimchi cabbage. Upon irradiation, there was an increase in the intensity of the central signal, and two side peaks, mutually spaced at 6 mT, were also observed. These side peaks with $g_1$ (left)=2.023 and $g_2$ (right)=1.985 were attributed to radiation-induced cellulose radicals. Leaf and stem in broccoli, and root and stem in kimchi cabbage provided good ESR signal responses upon irradiation. The signal noise was reduced in case of ALD and WAD pretreatments, particularly due to $Mn^{2+}$ signals. The ALD treatment was found most feasible to detect the improved ESR spectra in the irradiated samples.
Purpose : To evaluate MR image qualities we developed a new MRI phantom with the fixation structures necessary to position it into coil firmly. Materials and methods : We designed MRI phantom for eight evaluation items such as slice thickness accuracy, high contrast spatial resolution, low contrast object detectability, geometry accuracy, slice position accuracy, image intensity uniformity, percent signal ghosting and signal to noise ratio. For the positioning of phantom at coils, the fixation structures were set up on the surface of phantom. Six different MRI units were used for test the possibility for the clinical application and their image qualities were evaluated. Results : We acquired appropriate MR image qualities enough for the evaluation on all used MR units and confirmed that their evaluations were within reliable values compared to real ones for some items. The positioning of our phantom into head coils with fixation structures worked well for proper imaging. Conclusion : We found that our prototype of MRI phantom had the possibility of clinical application for MR image quality assessment.

Infrared signatures emitted from naval ships are mainly classified into internal signatures generated by the internal combustion engine of the ship and external signatures generated from the surface of the ship heated by solar heat. The internal signatures are also affected by the chemical components ($CO_2$, $H_2O$, CO and soot) of the exhaust plumes generated by the gas turbine and diesel engine, which constitute the main propulsion system. Therefore, in this study, the chemical composition ratios of the exhaust plumes generated by the gas turbines and diesel engines installed in domestic naval ships were examined to identify the chemical components and their levels. The influence of the chemical components of the exhaust plumes and their ratios on the infrared signatures of a naval ship was investigated using orthogonal arrays. The infrared signature intensity of the exhaust plumes calculated using infrared signature analysis software was converted to the signal-to-noise ratio to facilitate the analysis. The signature analysis showed that $CO_2$, soot and $H_2O$ are the major components influencing the mid-wave infrared signatures of both the gas turbine and diesel engine. In addition, it was confirmed that $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ are the major components influencing the long-wave infrared signatures.

Design and performance test results of a newly developed optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) measurement system are presented in this paper. Generally, different types of optical filters are used in OSL reader system to minimize the interference of the stimulation light in the OSL signal. For optically stimulation of $Al_2O_3:C$, we have arrived at an optimal combination of the filters, i.e., GG420 filter for filtering the stimulating light source, and a combined UG11 and BG39 filter at the detecting window (PMT). By using a high luminance blue LED (Luxeon V), sufficient luminous intensity could be obtained for optically stimulation. By using various control boards, the OSL reader device was successfully interfaced with a personal computer. A software was developed to deliver required commands to operate the OSL reader by using the LabView program (National Instruments, Inc.). In order to evaluate the reliability and the reproducibility of newly designed-OSL reader. Performance testing of the OSL reader was carried out for OSL efficiency, OSL decay curve and signal to noise ratio of the standard $Al_2O_3:C$ OSL material. It was found to be comparable with that of commercial Riso reader system.

In this paper, we propose ubiTrack, a system which tracks users' location in indoor environments by employing infrared-based proximity method. Most of recently developed systems have focussed on performance and accuracy. For this reason, they adopted the idea of centralized management, which gathers all information in a main system to monitor users' location. However, these systems raise privacy concerns in ubiquitous computing environments where tons of sensors are seamlessly embedded into environments. In addition, centralized systems also need high computational power to support multiple users. The proposed ubiTrack is designed as a passive mobile architecture to relax privacy problems. Moreover, ubiTrack utilizes appropriate area as a unit to efficiently track users. To achieve this, ubiTrack overlaps each sensing area by utilizing the TDM (Time-Division Multiplexing) method. Additionally, ubiTrack exploits various filtering methods at each receiver and utilization module. The filtering methods minimize unexpected noise effect caused by external shock or intensity weakness of ID signal at the boundary of sensing area. ubiTrack can be applied not only to location-based applications but also to context-aware applications because of its associated module. This module is a part of middleware to support communication between heterogeneous applications or sensors in ubiquitous computing environments.

The effect of small and medium scale shipyard operations on environmental pollutions related with civil appeal of nearby residential areas was estimated. PM-10(particles with an aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to 10 $\mu$m) concentrations were higher, as the sampling sites were nearer from shipyards. PM-10 concentrations of sampling sites closer to shipbuilding companies were higher during the normal operation periods than on vacation at which only small works were done. The larger amount of dry deposition was observed as the sampling sites were closer to shipyards. The odor intensity was highly influenced by ambient temperature. Almost all odor intensities measured by air dilution sensory test went over the emission standard in summer. Odor properties measured by instrumental analysis were observed to exceed the emission standard enforced to the shipyards. Odor compounds such as ammonia, sulfur compounds and trimethylamine went over the standard. Concentrations of styrene and aldehydes were lower than the olfactory threshold. All equivalent sound levels measured at daytime except the value of SP-3 pont were in excess of the environmental standard. Almost all sound levels at nighttime in all measuring sites were higher than the environmental standard. The results of this study shows counterplans need to be established for reducing the civil appeal related pollutions in the research areas.

This study evaluates the physical mechanical properties, durability and sound absorbtion of porous concrete for pavement according to content of silica fume and steel fiber to elicit the presentation of data and the way to enhance its function for the practical field application of porous concrete as a material of pavement. The results of the test indicate that in every condition, the void ratio and the coefficient of water permeability of porous concrete for pavement satisfy both the domestic standards and proposition values. Among the properties of strength, the compressive strength satisfies the standards in the specification of Korea National Housing Corporation as for every factor of mixture but in the case of the flexural strength, more than 0.6vol.% of steel fiber satisfied the Japan Concrete Institute proposition values. The mixture of silica fume and steel fiber presents the excellent intensity, though. The case when silica fume and steel fiber are used simultaneously presents the strongest durability because the durability shows the similar tendency to the dynamic characteristics. The case when 10wt.% of silica fume and 0.6vol.% of steel fiber are used at the same time shows that the loss rate of mass by Cantabro test became 27% better and freeze-thaw resistance became 60% better. As for the characteristics of sound absorption of porous concrete for pavement, Noise Reduction Coefficient is 0.48 to prove that it possesses almost 50% sound absorption.
Nowadays, mongolian gerbil is notably utilized for the research of brain and water deprivation because of a congenital incomplete willis circle structure in the brain, audiogenic seizure in low noise, and special cholesterol metabolism without water absorption for a long time. In this study, we are intend to identify the morphological changes of the catecholaminergic neuron of brain according to the time lapse in the condition of long term water deprivation. 55 mongolian gerbil were divided 10 groups(control, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 42th day water deprivation group), of which each group include 5 mongolian gerbils and 5 normal mongolian gerbils in control group were also used for brain atlas as a control. The brains were observed by the immunohistochemical stain using the TH, DBH and PMNT antibody. The results were as followings; 1. The nerve fibers of the TH-immunoreactive neuron were observed only in the and corpus striatum of the telencephalon. 2. Intensity of the immunostain of the nerve fiber in the cerebral cortex and corpus striatum was decreased gradually day by day after water deprivation. 3. The TH-immunoreactive nerve cells were observed in the paraventricular and periventricular nucleus of the 3rd ventricular in the hypothalamus of mongolian gerbil but the number of nerve cells were decreased from the first day of the water deprivation to the 10th day and increased until the 20th day, after than redecreased from the 20th day by the continuous water deprivation. The number of nerve fibers in this area were increased in the first day, but decreased from the 2nd day of water deprivation. The shape and density of the dopamine secreting cells in the brain of mongolian gerbil by the immunoreactive stain were changed in the continuous water deprivation. In this results, we can conclude that dopamine concerned in the water metabolism of mongolian gerbil, and mongolian gerbil could be used as an animal model for the research of water deprivation.
