  • CD-ROM Drives Rotating high speed as 10000 rpm cause serious noise and vibration problems. At the high speed, dominant noise is Air Borne Noise produced from high-speed airflow and Structure Borne Noise produced from structural vibration. In this research, vibration and sound characteristics in CD-ROM Drive were studied by the use of experimental analysis and computational simulation. Sound intensity techniques and ODS(Operational Deflection Shape) techniques are applied to identify the acoustic noise source of CD-ROM drive. And Computational simulation using SYSNOISE is conducted for describing the noise behavior.

  • The objective of this paper is to perform measurements of vibration intensity of a coupled beam. The propagation of flexural waves generates the out of plane vibration of the coupled beam. The longitudinal waves are generated due to the mode conversion at the structural joint of the coupled beam. The propagation of longitudinal waves generates the in plane vibration of the coupled beam. In order to identify the direction of vibrational power on the coupled beam, the in plane vibration intensity as well as the out of plane vibration intensity needs to be measured. The cross spectral method has been implemented to measure the in-plane vibration intensity as well as out of plane vibration intensity. The results shelved that the experimental method can be effectively used to measure the in-plane vibration intensity as well as the out of plane vibration intensity of coupled beams.

  • In this paper, active control of vibrational intensity at a reference point in an infinite, elastic plate was discussed. The plate is excised harmonically by a vibrating source, which has a vertical point force. The optimal condition of controller was investigated to minimize the vibrational intensity being transmitted from the vibrating source to a reference point. Hence the method of feedforward control was employed for the control strategy and then the cost function was evaluated to find the optimal control force. Three types of control force (Vertical force, Moment, and Coupling force (a set of vertical force and moment) ) and controller's positions were examined to define the optimal condition of the controller. The vibrational intensity at a reference point was found to be reduced down to a zero level, compared with the uncontrolled case. Especially maximum reduction of vibrational intensity was achieved when the controller was collinearly positioned between a vibrating source and a reference point.

  • The objective of this paper is to suggest an experimental technique to measure the out-of-plane vibration intensity of a coupled plate. In order to measure the out-of-plane vibration intensity of the plate, the frequency response technique has been implemented. In this technique, the 2-D intensity vector at a measurement point has been estimate from the frequency response functions measured at 4 points in the neighborhood of the measurement point. The experimental result has been compared with a theoretical result. It showed that the experimental technique can be effectively used to measure the out-of-plane vibration intensity of plates.

  • The use of reactive shearing structural intensity to place small patches of constrained layer damping material in order to achieve the largest reduction in the radiated sound power of Air-conditioner outdoor unit is described. The normal surface velocity of each panel was measured using a laser doppler vibrometer. Experimental results indicated that patches of constrained layer damping material placed over areas of high reactive structural intensity reduced the radiated sound power significantly more than patches of the same area placed over areas of low reactive structural intensity

  • Structural intensity has been mainly utilized to identify vibration energy flow in a vessel. In this paper, the structural intensity of a shuttle tanker subjected to H-moment of the main engine was calculated using a finite element model. From the analysis, it was found that the top-bracing elements, which support the main engine onto the hull structure to prevent the excessive transverse vibration of the main engine, play the role of the dominant path and sink for vibration energy flow from the main engine. Therefore, the structural intensity was controlled by the modification of stiffness and damping characteristics of the top-bracing elements. As a result, it is observed that the transverse vibration level at the center of navigation bridge deck decreased after the control of structural intensity.

In order to measure the in-plane vibration intensity at a data point, the frequency response functions for the 2 components of an acceleration vector are measured at each point of 4 points in the neighborhood of the data point. This experimental technique has been implemented to measure the in-plane vibration intensity of a plate. The experimental result has been compared with a theoretical result. • The purpose of this study is to analyse the main factors and attributes of psychological evaluation to noise. For this purpose, a psycho-acustic experiment was conducted by using the method of rating scale. 52 subjects were participated in the experiment, 20 stimuli were presented to subjects in random order with 23 adjectives. As a result of factor analysis, it was found that the primary factors for evaluating the quality of noise subjectively are four factors of unpleasantness, intensity, irregularity, and sharpness. And, as a result of MDPREF(multi-dimensional analysis of preference data), it was found that the noise sources including the factors of unpleasantness, intensity, and irregularity are related to the sounds of hammering in construction field, car horn, road traffic, idling of car, and printing by computer printer, and the factor of sharpness are the sounds of car siren, claps of thunder, car horn, and snowstorm etc.

  • Noise is regarded as an unwanted component of the image because it significantly reduces image quality. And image is often corrupted by mixed noise. In this paper an efficient modified weighted filter algorithm which combines spatial weight and intensity weight is proposed for removing mixed noise. In the proposed method, the filtering mask is separated into the four sub-windows and the parameters of the weights are confirmed by calculating local standard deviation and the mean of four sub-windows' standard deviations. Considering the spatial information and intensity information, the proposed method has good performance on not only noise elimination but also preservation of details. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than conventional algorithms.
