Rating scales for environmental noise are varied in their calculation procedure. Among them WECPNL (weighted equivalent continuous perceived noise level) is the rating scale for aircraft noise currently being used in domestic and applied only for aircraft noise. However $L_{dn}$ calculated from $L_{eq}$$L_{eq}$ is used as a rating scale for not only aircraft noise but also environmental noise. Besides, it is easy to calculate and internationally preferred. It is, therefore, not adequate for the evaluation of residents' exposure. Moreover it is very difficult to measure the aircraft noise by WECPNL due to the complicated calculating procedures if automatic measuring system is not used. Accordingly. this study aims to propose alternative evaluation procedure for the aircraft noise. To achieve this purpose, the data measured by automatic measuring system were gathered and calculated with three evaluation procedures : WECPNL $L_{eq}$ and $L_{dn}$, and the results calculated from different methods were compared and analyzed.

Workers engaged in construction works have been exposed to high levels of noise during their work in tunnels. Noise is one of the major health hazards for employees working in construction sites. The aim of this study is to evaluate the noise levels generating from tunneling equipments such as jumbo drills, backhoes, payloaders, shotcrete machines and service cars. Explosion and turbo fan noises were also monitored. A high precision sound level meter was introduced for measuring LAeq, LAFmax, LAFmin and LCpeak noises in 5 tunneling work sites that were located in Seoul, Kyunggi-do and Kangwon-do areas with NATM and shield methods. The highest noise was recorded by explosion(151.9 dB LCpeak) followed by jumbo drills of higher than 110 dB(A) LAeq. Backhoe normally generated 90~110 dB(A) LAeq while breaking work of rock showed additional around 5~15 dB(A). Noise exposure levels for payloader and shotcrete machine scored more than 90 dB(A) which might be a source of noise-induced hearing loss. Additional research in revealing noise levels from construction equipments operating in tunneling works may enhance the protection of workers who exposed to noise primarily at the sites.

An auditory experiment was conducted to establish annoyance criteria for floor impact noise in apartment buildings. Heavyweight floor impact sounds were recorded using an impact ball; the impact sound pressure level (SPL) together with the temporal decay rate (DR), which is quantified by the dB drop per second, was analyzed. For the experiment, A-weighted exposure levels of the heavy-weight floor impact sounds ranging 34~73 dB were evaluated at 3 dB intervals. Participants used a 7-point verbal scale to evaluate the level of annoyance from floor impact noise. The results show that the annoyance increases with increasing impact SPL and decreasing DR. Consequently, a classification and an acceptable level of floor impact sounds were proposed.

The assessment of an urban site depends on the way it responds to multiple needs such as functionality, aesthetic and complex comfort of acoustic, thermal, lighting and air quality This study aims to investigate the assessment of various urban soundscapes in the sense of acoustic amenity by the questionnaires. As a result, acoustic amenity assessment was influenced by the non-acoustic factors such as environment assessment of visual, thermal, air quality etc.. And it was shown that the subjects tend to perceive the noise level less than 3$\sim$10dB L$_{Aeq}$ under the similar noise exposure level according to the urban landscapes.

Noise mapping covers the whole mapping process from the collection of raw data, storage and retrieval of the data for computation/modeling, to the presentation of information related to outdoor sound levels, sound exposure, noise effects or numbers of affected person. This presentation can be in either a graphical or numerical form. In Europe, the Directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise is now being implemented in the EU Member States. Here, The first maps for major areas are required by mid 2007, and action plans required one year later. These activities are repeated at five yearly intervals and all defined areas are incorporated in the following round of deadlines starting in 2012. The above are minimum requirements and some countries are expected to go further and faster. In this study, present status of domestic and international noise maps has been introduced to implemente the Korean noise map standard. This will help to get more convenient and, more fair result, and produce correct map at domestic level.

Recently, the impact on hearing induced by using of portable audio equipment have been actively studied. In general, Because they turn the volume up with loud background noise, they may expose to louder noise. In this study, we investigated the maximum noise level of 20 the domestic potable audio equipment and estimated the impact of the hearing induced by portable audio equipment in according to exposure time. As a result, the use of portable audio equipment is assumed to be more three hours when the level of more than 50 % of volume is most likely to affect the hearing.

This experimental study deals with the characteristics of LCD or PDP TV set noise, which are differ form those of CRT TV set. These characteristics are most important for establishing the effective method to reduce noise level, searching for the appropriate exposure level and evaluation method of LCD or PDP TV set noise. This study adopt two measurement method to specify the power level of LCD or PDP TV set noise in anechoic room(ISO 3741) and reverberation room(ISO 3745) . Comparing with each results of the two method, the reverberation room method is more simple in measuring and calculating the power level. And the subjective response test are carried out to select the pair of appropriate adjectives to present the characteristics of LCD or PDP TV set noise. The pair of 17 adjectives are selected from the 168 adjectives which are used in presenting the sound and noise form literature.

In case of the working machine that using in the loud-noisy workplace, as it generates the loud-noise, it is influencing a physical, mental bad effect to those workers. Accordingly, though the noise countermeasure for the loud-noisy workplace is acutely requiring, until now, those methods that wearing the soundproof-protection tool, or restriction the working hours, and minimize the noise exposure volume, were mainly used. However, such noise countermeasures occur many problem points. On such point of view, using the acoustic simulation technique, let the workers to choose the workplace where suffering many damages due to the noise of working machine, and after grasp the physical property of working machine and indoor acoustic characteristic, this Study has attempted to grasp the reduction degree of noise level at before-improvement?after-improvement, through the sound-absorption measure. Passing through such preceding step, using auralizational technique based on the noise of working machine of before-improvement after-improvement, and by conduct psycho-acoustics evaluation, this study intended to investigate the change degree of subject reaction. As the result of evaluation, it is considering that the noise-reduction countermeasure method for the loud-noisy workplace could be much effective, through the sound-absorption measure.
In this paper, double exposure holographic interferometry using ruby pulse laser is formed in order to investigate the propagation of transient waves. The vibration characteristics according to the change of impact load direction, i.e., impacted in the shear direction and in the normal direction are analyzed. It was observed that the macroscopic trends of transient wave generation and propagation in the assembly of precipitator plates were almost similar regardless of the change of impact load direction. But the propagation and mixing of transient wave was advanced relatively slowly when impacted in the normal direction.

Road traffic noise is closely related with urban forms and urban components, such as population, building, traffic and land-use, etc. Hence, it is possible to minimize the noise exposure problem depending on how to plan new town or urban planning alteration. This paper provides ways to apply for urban planning in consideration of noise through exposed noise estimation for urban planning alteration. Spatial autoregressive model which explains about 81.4% of road traffic noise from the former paper is used. The simulation results by the spatial statistical model are compared with those by the engineering program-based modeling for 5 small-scaled scenarios of urban planning alteration. The error from the limitation of containing informations inside the grid cell and the difficulties of reflecting acoustic phenomena is existed. Nevertheless, in the stage of preliminary design, the use of the statistical models that have been estimated well is useful in time and economically.
