Reduction of Flow-Induced Noise in an Expansion Muffler with Lids (삽입관이 있는 확장형 소음기에서의 기류음 감소)

  • Turbocharger has been widely used in many passenger cars in application with diesel engines because of high power and fuel efficiency. However, flow-induced noise (whoosh or hissing noise) which is generated within a compressor during its operation at marginal surge line can deteriorate noise characteristics. Hissing noise excitation is associated with the generation of turbulence within the turbocharger compressor and radiated through the transmission path in a turbocharger system. In this study, a expansion muffler with lids is devised and installed in the transmission path to reduce the hissing noise. Acoustic and fluid dynamic characteristics for the muffler are investigated which are related to the unsteadiness of turbulence and pressure in the turbocharger system. A transfer matrix method is used to analyze the transmission loss of the muffler. A simple expansion muffler with lids is proposed for the reduction of high frequency component noise. Turbulence simulation is carried out by a standard k - ${\varepsilon}$ model. An optimal design condition of the muffler is obtained by extensive acoustic and fluid dynamic analysis on the engine dynamometer with anechoic chamber. A significant reduction of the hissing noise is achieved at the optimal design of the muffler as compared with the conventional muffler.

  • In this paper, the vibrations of floor systems of which buildings are under construction are studied by experimental and analysis method. The first step is to measure the operational response data and FRF at the supporting points of the utility and the second step is to calculate the dynamic load by TPA Method which provided by LMS VirtualLab System Analysis Module. The dynamics we used to identify is expressed by below equation; $$\{F_{oper}\}=[H]^{-1}\;{\cdot}\;\{{.. \atop x_{oper}}\}$$ Where, H(Transfer function between position of the force and response) and x(response) are measured by vibration test.

  • The household reftigerator's noise which is closely related with resident environment can hardly be evaluated its sound quality using the Korean Standards. Radiation characteristics of compressor noise consist of tonal noise in low frequency range and, or narrow band noise in high frequency range. In this study, measuring method for detecting the abnormal and low-level noise in high frequency band is presented, and control method for its reduction is proposed. After installing wall which is similar to living condition, we determined a major concerning frequency band of noise. It can be found the directivity of high frequency noise radiated from compressor by using experiment and analysis. According to isolation of noise transfer path, remarkable noise reduction is achieved.

  • Caliper intergrated Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is an automatic parking brake system, attached to rear caliper. Because EPB uses luxury vehicles recently, the drivers of vehicles are sensitive to the EPB noise. EPB is operated by the motor and gear, so noise is generated by motor and gear. In order to reduce noise, One of EPB manufacturers uses helical gear and changes the shape of EPB housing. But these methods are not optimized for reduction of interior noise. There are many noise transfer paths into vehicle interior and it is difficult to identify the noise sources. Therefore, in this study, we performed contribution analysis and modal testing in the vehicle system. It is possible to distinguish between air-borne noise and structure-borne noise in the vehicle interior noise by comparing interior noise peak with resonance mode map.

  • Customers want to have more convenient and comfortable vehicle. Motor-on-caliper EPB(Electrical Parking Brake) System is one of the new systems for customer's convenience. It is applied for Midsize vehicle for reducing weight/price compared to cable puller type EPB. In this paper we studied sound quality improvement of motor-on-caliper EPB system. We developed the sound quality index and suggested the interior sound quality target value. To meet the target value cascading target was also suggested. EPB motor vibration level & sound radiation level, vibro-acoustic transfer function level from EPB to interior was defined. To find out effective way of sound quality improvement and find cascading target, TPA(Transfer Path Analysis) was carried out.

  • The procedure to estimate the sources of noise and vibrations in a typical drum-type washing machine was presented. The sources should be identified to predict the radiated noise with computational model of structure. Source identification techniques based on singular decomposition were implemented using the measured signals of accelerometers and microphones. The finite element analysis and indirect boundary element analysis were implemented to predict the structural vibrations and the acoustic pressures at the field points. The predicted results by only structural sources were compared with those by both structural and acoustical sources. It was verified that not only the structural-borne source but also air-borne source should be considered to predict the radiated noise with better accuracy. The contribution analysis with respect to the transfer path was also preformed.

The Filtered-x Least Mean Fourth Algorithm for Active Noise Control and Its Convergence Analysis

  • In this paper, we propose the filtered-x least mean fourth (LMF) algorithm where the error raised to the power of four is minimized and analyze its convergence behavior for a multiple sinusoidal acoustic noise and Gaussian measurement noise. Application of the filtered-x LMF adaptive filter to active noise control(ANC) requires estimating of the transfer characteristic of the acoustic path between the output and error signal of the adaptive controller. The results of the convergence analysis of the filtered-x LMF algorithm indicates that the effects of the parameter estimation inaccuracy on the convergence behavior of the algorithm are characterized by two distinct components : Phase estimation error and estimated gain. In particular, the convergence is shown to be strongly affected by the accuracy of the phase response estimate. Also, we newly show that convergence behavior can differ depending on the relative sizes of the Gaussian measurement noise and convergence constant.
