A diesel forklift truck under 3-ton class has disadvantages in the vibration transmission path. Because the weight ratio of body structure to powertrain which is source of excitation force is lower th an a mid-class forklift. In addition, the torsional and bending vibration mode frequencies of body structure are within the engine excitation frequency range, then high idle vibration generated by resonance. In this paper vehicle body structure design and optimization technique considering idle vibration reduction are presented. Design sensitivity analysis is applied to search the sensitive of design parameters in body structure. The design parameters such as thickness and pillar cross section were optimized to increase the torsional and bending vibration mode frequencies.
The complex Young's modulus of a viscoelastic material can be obtained as a function of frequency from the measurements of relative motion between the two ends of a bar-type specimen. Non-resonance method is usually used to obtain the complex Young's modulus over wide range of frequency including resonance points, while in resonance method information at resonance frequencies only is used. However, the complex Young's modulus obtained by the non-resonance method is often unreliable in the anti-resonance frequency regions because of the measurement noise problems. In this study, the effects of the random measurement errors on estimating the complex Young's modulus are studied in the aspect of sensitivity, and how to obtain the reliable frequency region for a given measurement error level is shown. The usable frequency regions in determining the complex Young's modulus are represented by a non-dimensional parameter formed with the wave length and specimen length.

A moving-magnet type pickup actuator is proposed, which has the back-yoke to improve th sensitivity. Through the magnetic path analysis, we can find that the flux density is increased i the air gap by the pole assignment of magnet and the adding of back-yoke can reduce the flu leakage and induce 40% up of flux density. Experimental results show that the sensitivity i improved in the tracking direction, however, the improvement doesn't occur in the focusing direction. Finally, the compensation performance is tested in HD-DVD system. And it is verifie that the actuator can compensate the disc tilt of ${\pm}$0.7$^{\circ}$.

In this study, the dynamic instabilities of a nonlinear elastic system subjected to follower force are investigated. The two-degree-of-freedom double pendulum model with nonlinear geometry, cubic spring, and linear viscous damping is used for the study. The constant and periodic follower forces are considered. The chaotic nature of the system is identified using the standard methods, such as time histories, phase portraits, and Poincare maps, etc.. The responses are chaotic and unpredictable due to the sensitivity to initial conditions. The sensitivities to parameters, such as geometric initial imperfections, magnitude of follower force, and viscous damping, etc. is analysed. The strange attractors in Poincare map have the self-similar fractal geometry. Dynamic buckling loads are computed for various parameters, where the loads are changed drastically for the small change of parameters.

The optical storage device has recently experienced significant improvements, especially for the aspects of high capacity and fast transfer rate. However, it is the fact that the optical storage device has the lower access time for the randomly scattered data compared to the hard disk drives. It is, therefore, necessary to develop a new type of optical storage system. In this study, we investigate the air bearing characteristics for the optical disk drives which have the swing arm actuator similarly to the hard disk drives. Considering the requirements of the optical disk drives, we parametrize the shape of the air bearing surface and investigate its sensitivity to the flying characteristics for further optimized design outputs.

Using the responses of deck plate, a new bridge weigh-in-motion system has been introduced. The approach includes not only a systematic algorithm for the extraction of moment influence sequence but also a sensitivity-based system identification technique. The algorithm indentifies the influence sequence, the axle loads, and axle location of moving vehicles on a bridge, simultaneously. The accuracy and practicability of the algorithm have been examined experimentally for a folded deck plate on Yongjong Grand suspension bridge. It turns out that the two-dimensional effects of the behavior of deck plate should be considered for further accuracy improvement.
This paper presents a computational method for a confidence region of identified parameters which are affected by measurement noise and error contained in prescribed parameters. The method is based on sensitivities of the identified parameters with respect to model parameter error and measurement noise along with the law of error propagation. By conducting numerical experiments on simple models, it is confirmed that the confidence region coincides well with the results of numerical experiments. Furthermore, the optimum arrangement of sensor locations is evaluated when uncertainty exists in prescribed parameters, based on the concept that square sum of coefficients of variations of identified results attains minimum. Good agreement of the theoretical results with those of numerical simulation confirmed validity of the theory.
In this paper a systematic test procedure for evaluation of road-induced noise of a vehicle and guidelines for each test are presented. Also, a practical application of the test procedure to a small SUV is presented. According to the test procedure, all the tests were performed to evaluate road-induced booming noise that is in low frequency range. First of all the information on characteristics of road-induced noise was obtained through baseline test. Coupling effects between body structure and acoustic cavity of a compartment were obtained by means of modal tests for a structure and an acoustic cavity. Local stiffness of joint areas between chassis system and car-body was determined by test for measurement of input point inertance. Noise sensitivities of body joints to operational forces were obtained through test for measurement of noise transfer functions. Operational deflection shapes made us analyze behaviors of chassis system under running condition and then find sources of noise due to resonance of the chassis system. Finally, Principal Component Analysis and Transfer Path Analysis were utilized to investigate main paths of road-induced noise. In order to evaluate road-induced booming noise exactly, all of tests mentioned above should be performed systematically.

The noise problem has been a public interest for several years in Korea. Especially, the noises which were emitted from aircrafts on the airport and in the air have injurious effects on people over a vast range. Hence, there need vast data on the aircraft noise to evaluate the effect of various parameters. In present study, the works which consist of social surveys and noise measurements were conducted at points near the airport and the airbase. Total of 1,784 participants give effective responses in forty-five areas nearby the measurement points. Questionnaires asked the responses concerned with attitude, noise sensitivity, directive effects, secondary effects, annoyance and attempts to lower noise level exposed. From the field survey, the doseresponse relationship of community response to aircraft noise was established and there are different characteristics between civil and military aircraft. Though the study is still continuing on a few interest, one among some results is that %HA (%highly annoyed) of civil aircraft is higher than military's under the 70 WECPNL.
Taking advantage of the high sensitivity and long-distance detection capability of acoustic emission (AE) technique, this paper focuses on the crack detection in rail head, which is one of the most vulnerable parts of rail track. The AE source location and noise cancellation were studied on the basis of practical rail profile, material and operational noise. In order to simulate the actual AE events of rail head cracks, field tests were carried out to acquire the AE waves induced by pencil lead break (PLB) and operational noise of the railway system. Wavelet transform (WT) was first utilized to investigate the time-frequency characteristics and dispersion phenomena of AE waves. Here, the optimal mother wavelet was selected by minimizing the Shannon entropy of wavelet coefficients. Regarding the obvious dispersion of AE waves propagating along the rail head and the high operational noise, the wavelet transform-based modal analysis location (WTMAL) method was then proposed to locate the AE sources (i.e. simulated cracks) respectively for the PLB-induced AE signals with and without operational noise. For those AE signals inundated with operational noise, the Hilbert transform (HT)-based noise cancellation method was employed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Finally, the experimental results demonstrated that the proposed crack detection strategy could locate PLB-simulated AE sources effectively in the rail head even at high operational noise level, highlighting its potential for field application.
